Chapter 2: New Kid
Maria was in the midst of an intergalactic battle between Kenai, the commander of Mars's Galactic Astrofighters (M.G.A.), The Galactic Order Regulators, who where already defeated, and herself, commanding the Galactic Warriors (G.W.). At this moment Kenai had the upper hand because of her Plasma Cannons. Maria only had one more chance to launch her own cannons, but that chance hadn't came yet. She was waiting for the perfect time and angle, strait into the nose of Kenai's ship. But before Maria could even aim once she got the chance she was blaster into an oblivion.
--GAME OVER--
" Dude! You where sooooooo close!" Esther shouted.
All day after school the twins and Maria had been going on rides ( all except the newest one, 'best for last' is what Esther said when Maria asked about it.) and playing arcade games. Right now they had just finished playing 'G.W.', or Galactic Warriors, and Celine had upheld the high score. Until Maria had played, that is. Maria had Celine beat by 10,000 points, Surprising everyone who was watching her play.
"Ya! I made it farther than either one of you guys did!" Maria said with a large amount of her surprise showing through her voice. Normally she was terrible at games but now she found that she could play games about space all day long. She couldn't even tell herself why.
"Is it even possible to beat Celine at any games in here?" Esther asked while elbowing Celine in the torso. Celine just blushed and smiled. It was true, whenever our little gang of friends came to the fair she would split off and play in here all day long. Pretty much all of the games had her name saved as first place.
" Yes it is. I'm not all to good at this game." Celine said, humble as ever.
" Oh fiddlesticks!" Esther said. That was her favorite saying whenever someone was trying to be humble. Surprisingly she said it at least once a day.
"OK, OK. Lets got to the new ride now. I think we did everything now." Maria claimed, and of course she was right. That was the last game to do. She was FINALLY able to go on the new ride.
"I have to blindfold you first. Can't have you know the way, now can we?" Esther smirked and pulled out a black blindfold. Maria easily agreed to wear it, knowing that if she didn't things would only get worse for her.
Once she was "safely" secured behind the blindfold the both pulled her towards the ride. It wasn't along walk there, witch surprised Maria. She hadn't noticed any new ride while they where at the arcade, but it was only a 10 minute walk. Knowing them, she assumed that they had weaved her through unnecessary turns and paths so she couldn't find her way through by memory. No worry. Maria figured she could purchase a map to help her.
" We're here!" Esther exclaimed and she pulled off the blindfold. No wonder they didn't want her to know the way there. If it was up to her she would stay here all day!
Looming overhead was the fear-imposing ride 'The Zipper'. It was Maria's Favorite ride, but Esther and Celine's parents could never afford it. Apparently their parents finally saved up enough money for it! It was a bright red with black detailing. Maria loved it. She was speechless for a moment, but soon found something to say.
"So worth the wait..." Maria said under her breath.
" Well then lets get going!!" Esther said as she started to drag Maria and Celine towards the line. " I hope Mr. Hot-stuff is here today."
"Let him goooooo..." Celine whined. She appeared to like her talking about him just about as much as Maria did.
"Not until he says that he doesn't like me!" Esther said, determination was abundant in her voice.
" Careful what you wish for." Maria muttered.
"Ya ya. OMG THERE HE IS!!!" Esther said while going all fan-girlish.
The new carnie WAS hot. He had dark brown hair, almost black, that was brushed to the side. His jawline was sharp and his dark brown eyes could pierce someone's soul. His smile when he was Esther was dazzling but possibly practiced. Almost everything about him had a dark aura, tempting but also dangerous. She wasn't so sure she liked him just yet. Maybe once she got to know him she would.
"Jake! Is the ride open?" Esther shouted at the new carnie. He just nodded his head and turned the ride on.
"Now it is." His soft voice echoed towards them.
"Perfect! Make this ride extra long! This is Maria's favorite ride and her first time on it here! Gotta make it good!" Esther demanded, still sounding nice as ever.
"So your the Maria I have heard so much about. Looks like they didn't lie." Jake said approvingly, like he was judging her for something. She couldn't tell what but she figured it was soon to come, for he was scanning her like a printer.
"So... How about that ride?" Maria asked, getting uncomfortable.
"of course! get in!" Jake said, obviously pleased with himself for some odd reason. He struck Maria as the kind of person with to many secrets to keep track of.
"YES!" Esther shouted. They all loaded into one cart and got prepared for the ride. It sure was a lot of fun! Maria was pretty sure that china could hear Esther's screams. And as usual Celine was dead quiet but had her rare smile on her face. She was the kind of person who was silent when they got scared.
After the ride they all said goodbye and Maria walked home, thinking about what he could have possibly been analyzing her for. She never figured it out, and if it was anything close to what she was thinking about she hoped she never did.
