Chapter 4: Hate to be bored
Skylar woke up at 7am to get ready for the day to come. Even though she had never modeled before, her adoptive mother, Celina, had made sure to pass all of her carefully cultivated super model skills to her. Even if she never entered the showbiz, her mother wanted her to have all the tools necessary if she ever needed them.
The only reason she agreed to this deal was that piece of land at the outskirts of Imperial on the southwest side. As the capital of A Country, any land in and around Imperial was outrageously expensive. Sky had been searching for suitable land to build the laboratory necessary for the creation of her company. But anything acceptable so far was out of her price range. But now, with the price halved, she could easily buy the land and start construction too.
She got out of the bed and looked at the bustling city outside. When at 18 she decided to move out of the Aredhel mansion, her parents had bought her a penthouse at the center of Imperial in a very secure high rise, five minutes away from her university. They also gave her the trust fund account they had opened for her when she joined their family. Sky would never forget the kindness and love they had given her. But she didn't want to use their money to build the company that was the first step towards her revenge on her real family.
For that reason, she had been saving money for the last 8 years. Thanks to the Aredhels, who had paid for everything related to education and living, she had managed to save all the scholarship money she had earned so far. Counting the initial capital from the sale of 'Lethal Fragrance' and the sale of some other less important chemical formulas to small companies, she had just about enough money saved.
Just as she came out of the shower there was a call from reception about a Ms. Arkin visiting. After giving the ok to let her up, she opened the door and went back to get dressed. When she came out ready fr the day, she found Rivka Arkin sitting on the kitchen island with coffee cups and a bag of donuts.
Skylar went straight for the donuts. "You know, no matter how much chocolate you bring me, I won't sleep with you."
Rivka pouted. "But, why? I am so in love with you."
Sky: "I can't. No man will compare after. Then you will pine away for me and eventually die as an old cat lady. I am just that awesome.
Rivka laughed. "How did Bray manage to persuade you to take this job? If I remember correctly you didn't want to get into the showbiz circle yet."
Sky sat down opposite Rivka. "I am getting that piece of land I was telling you about last week. Now I just need an assistant that I can trust to get everything moving. If you have anyone in mind let me know. So, what happened to the last model? All Bray said was that she died. Anything I need to know?"
Rivka took a tablet out of her bag. "The detective in charge said it was rape-murder. She was found at her house when her manager went to pick her up yesterday after lunch. We know nothing more as of yet, but something seems fishy about it. So keep your guard up just in case. This is all the information on Estelle for today's show. You are going to be the last model and show up 3 times in total. I don't know if Bray told you but it's a masked show, so your face is going to be hidden but your hair will be visible. I brought a temporary hair dye in case you need it. I will be there with you the whole time."
Sky looked over the information and got up. "Well we better be on our way. Wouldn't want to be late on my first fashion show. Any of the other models that might be a problem?"
Rivka and Sky took the elevator to the parking in the basement where the Aredhel family's driver was waiting for them. They got in before continuing to talk. "There are two more of our models but they are not that big. You should pay attention to the opening model, Reanna Obrelink, she is 22 years old and an up and coming supermodel. And also the model just before you on the runway, Yelena Morris, age 24. She has been almost on the supermodels list for the last two years, but never quite makes it there. She might be the most problematic one."
Sky stayed silent until they arrived at the Estelle building where the rehearsals were taking place before the show tonight. She turned to Rivka, put on a large pair of sunglasses and smiled before opening the door. "I do hope they make some trouble. Otherwise it would be way too boring. And you know how much I hate to be bored."
