Chapter 14: 4. Purpose
Hana was standing by the doorway, then she invites herself in the room. She closed the door behind her.
She walked up to the desk. "I am sorry. I couldn't sleep but I just remembered something." "What is it?"
She shifts her eyes on the floor then to him. "I think I know why they killed her and they are now chasing my father and I. I think it's all because of this."
She puts a teddy bear on the desk for him to see. He looks at the teddy bear then at her. "What kind of joke is this? It's just a teddy bear." "No, it's not just a teddy bear.
She then tear the back of the bear. She puts her hand in and takes out a hidden camera with the cord.
She puts on the table for him to see. "Plug this in the computer. It might have what we are looking for." He takes her word and plugs it into his computer.
Hana calmly walks around the desk and takes a peek. "Where is.." "May I?" He looks at her and removes his hand from the mouse.
She takes over and found the drive of the hidden camera. She double clicks on it and a bunch of videos appears on file explorer. She removes her hand and kindly gestures him to take over.
He stands up, and gestures her to sit on the chair. She looks at him confused. "Have a seat." "What about you?"
He takes her hand to stand infront of the chair and puts both of his hands on her shoulders, kindly telling her to sit down on his chair.
He then grab a chair nearby and set it next to her. He then opens the video that was recently. Their eyes never left the screen.
There were four men cornering Mallory, Cindy's mother. "Where are the photos?" "You think I would obediently give it to you trash?"
Him and Hana thinks alike. (Photos? What photos?) They continues to watch the video. One of the men took out a gun and pointed towards her. She didn't flinched. She remains calm.
She looks pass through them and notices the camera. Hana reflexively puts both of her hands on her mouth. Another man asked, "Where is that Leroy?" She remains silent for a while and said, "I rather die than confess of his whereabouts."
"Wish granted." BANG!! Hana flinched as she hear the gunshot in the video. He, on the other hand, takes a peek at Hana. (Wow. She didn't move her eyes away from the video. Just what is she?) He turns back to the video.
Soon the men left. The camera comes closer to Mallory. He dropped the camera and runs towards Mallory. "Mallory! Mallory! Hang in there!"
He was about to carry her but she reached out and puts her hand on top of his. She stopped him. . "L-Leroy....y-you need to leave now. Y-your daughter needs you. H-her life will be at stake. G-go." He shook his head. "What about your daughter?! She also needs you." "C-Cindy will be fine. Z-Zamir will take care of her on m-my behalf."
Hana asks out loud, "Zamir? Who's Zamir?" He replied, "Me." Hana turns and look at him. His eyes still on the screen. "My name is Zamir." "..You're not Japanese or Chinese?" He stops the video and looks in a far distance. "Mallory and I are half-siblings. She's the only one who I treated as my family." Hana nods.
He continues, "My mother is Albanian. She taught me how to speak English, Japanese, and Chinese. My father...I never met him nor know who he is." "I'm sorry."
He turns and looks at her. She looks down at her hands. "I didn't mean to be nosy. Forget that I asked." Kaito asked himself. (Why did I tell her about myself?)
He then change the subject. "Shall we continue with the video?" "Ah..yes." Hana looks up to the screen. Zamir clicks on the resume button. Mallory inhale and exhale heavily.
"B-But....what about your daughter? W-who will she turn to, if you're gone?" Leroy bit his lips. "Mallory." "..You have everything in that camera..yes?" "Yes..." She nods. "I don't have any regrets, Leroy. F-find Zamir...he surely will help you and your daughter. Tell C-Cindy that I'm sorry."
Her hand slowly fell down, losing its strength. Leroy hugs her tight. "...Mallory, you're such a good friend. I won't forget the kindness you gave me. They will pay for what they done."
He carefully puts her head back down on the ground. He removes her necklace and placed them in his pocket. He turns around and picks up the teddy bear.
He looks back at Mallory once more and run the opposite direction. He stops by the park to catch up his breath. He then checks his surroundings before speaking.
He lifts the teddy bear and looks in the eye. "Hana. I'm sorry that I have to drag you into this. I..I didn't think they would make a harsh move on us. Let me make this short. You need to stay alive, Hana. I will be fine. I need you to be strong. We will reunite as father and daughter. I promise you that."
Leroy checks his surrounding once more, but luckily no signs of them "Zamir. If you are watching this. Takashi Corp is out of hand. They have hidden mission. They are trying to get rid of every single family members of Kobayashi."
Hana's eyes widen. "K-Kobayashi?" Zamir looks at her. "You know them?" "...They're the family that took me in." Zamir reaches out but stops himself. (What...am I doing?) He retreats his hand.
Leroy continues, "Zamir , please protect my daughter on my behalf. With that I will owe you favor." Leroy ended the video. Hana knits her brows and noticed something.
She puts her hand on the mouse and clicks on the video. Her eyes widen. "I—Impossible." Zamir looks at her. "You know her?" "She died from the fire. How is that.....unless that's not her....if she's alive then who's body did I see?"
Zamir puts his hand on top of hers. Their eyes met. "Tell me everything." She nods. "That's Nana. She works for us as a house keeper."
"For how long?" "....long. Ever since i was 12. That body....I thought it was her because the bracelet that I handmade for her." He nods as he listens to her.
Once she's done, he knits his brows as he sees her holding back her tears. "I will send my men to secretly investigate that incident." "You'll do that?" He nods. "Yeah." it to me." "Mm." Hana smiles innocently, "thank you, Zamir ."
He immediately stands up and said, "You should go back to bed." "..yeah..?" Hana stood up and head to the door. "Zamir. Thanks again." "..Yeah..."
As she left, he crouched down and his hands covered his face. (Oh..my..god...for a second...I thought she's cute...this is going to be dangerous...)
