Chapter 15: Lokedall's workshop

Five minutes later, in the hall, they say goodbye to the receptionist and go out into the street, with Isabel leading the group.

While strolling through the streets of Dhismiar, Eva, Lucien, and Leah enjoy the views of the city, since, despite the bad smells, the hustle and bustle of the city, it gives the feeling that the city is alive.

"About four blocks from here there's a market. Although there are no valuable things like the ones that you can find at the Auction House, there are sometimes very good things at very good prices," Isabel says, pointing in that direction.

"Maybe we can go and see what we can find," Eva suggests.

"Later, after the visit to Lokedall," says Lucien.

They continue walking, this time with Leah and Isabel at the head of the group, talking to each other, followed by Eve and Lucien, both very quiet. The former is doing everything possible to ignore her, while the latter, although not looking at her, is aware of every movement she does.

From time to time, Leah and Isabel turn their heads to look sideways at the couple and then giggle. And every time they do, Lucien chuckles and Eva turns red.

Finally, they arrive at Lokedall's workshop. Like the Auction House, it is surrounded by skyscrapers. While the skyscrapers are made of iron and steel, the workshop is made of wood. On the facade of a sign, also made of wood, gives the building its name: Lokedall's workshop.

When they reach the door, Isabel comes forward and knocks on the door.

Knock! Knock!

"It's unlocked," says a voice from inside.

Isabel opens the door and gestures to the others to follow her inside. Once inside, the sisters and Lucien are surprised to see the inside of the workshop.

It is an interesting mixture of a craft workshop and a mechanic. On one of the walls, the shelves are full of projects to be finished. In the other, the work tools hang from the walls: from woodworking tools to metalworking tools. In the middle, the work tables are empty.

They continue walking through the carver, admiring the half-finished pieces.

"Lokedall, where are you?" asks Isabel, as she enters the shop looking for him.

"In the warehouse. Five minutes and I'll come out," a voice is heard all over the workshop.

The trio, still looking at things in the workshop, go around trying to find out where the voice came from.

"He used the loudspeaker," Isabel explains.

"Well, Isabel, you still haven't told us what your relationship is with Lokedall," says Eva curious.

Leah and Lucien stare at her.

"What? I know you're wondering, too," Eva says.

"The truth is, he adopted me and made me his apprentice when he found me on the street," Isabel says.

They all remain silent, assimilating Isabel's comment.

A couple of minutes later, a dwarf shows up. His hair is long and dark with many braids like his beard. The ash stains on his face show that he is working on something when he has been called. He wears a work apron, like those of blacksmiths, which is also stained with ash.

"Oh, wow. I didn't know we had guests," he says.

"Si, these are mis amigos[1]. Eva, Leah, and Lucien," Isabel says pointing to each one.

"Welcome to my humble workshop. I am Lokedall. Isabel's friends are always welcome," says Lokedall.

"Thank you very much, sir. I'm a great admirer of yours," Eva says excitedly.

Lucien chuckles and Eva turns red.

"Oh no, kiddo. No sir. Call me Lokedall," says Lokedall.

"You have an amazing workshop," Leah says, gesturing the building.

"Thank you, kiddo. My whole life is in here," says Lokedall looking at the shelves at the walls where his inventions are. "Well, do you want anything?"

"I think they'd be interested in the armor you're working on. Eva is preparing to fight in the Arena. She will fight on behalf of the Rugarith," says Isabel, proud of her new friend.

"Ah! Yes!" says Lokedall as he gets closer to Eva and surrounds her to see her better. "Yes... I think it might work."

Then he moves away and turns to go where he came in. He disappears and can be heard wandering around in the warehouse.

Our heroes look at each other in confusion.

"Aha! Here it is," Lokedall says, entering again with a box in his hands. Then, he places the box on top of one of the tables.

"I've been working on it for a couple of weeks. It doesn't have an owner yet, but I think it would be perfect for you," he says as he looks at Eva.

Then, he removes the lid from the box and takes out the armor.

Chapter 16: The armor and the entry for the Arena

Then, he removes the lid from the box and takes out the armor.

It is a set of black trousers and a jacket.

When they see it, they raise their eyes from the 'armor' and look at the craftsman with confusion.

"I know, I know. It doesn't look like armor, but it's much better than any other. It adapts to the body as if it were a second skin, and is as hard as diamond... It's also prepared to reject any magic spell," Lokedall says proudly.

"It's really beautiful," Eva says as she approaches her hand to touch it.

"Try it on," Lokedall says, encouraging her. "There's a tester for you. Here, put these boots on too."

Eva picks up the clothes and boots and walks to the direction he is pointing. Five minutes later, she goes out, dressed.

"Wow. You look like a guerrera[1]," Isabel says.

Hypnotized, Lucien nods.

"Careful, you're drooling," Leah whispers, mocking him.

"Faith," whispers Eva, as she looks at a mirror on one of the walls.

"Hm, nice name. As you've already named it, it's yours," says Lokedall as he strokes his beard.

"Really?" Eva asks. When she sees Lokedall nodding, she approaches him and gives him a hug, "Thank you! Thank you very much!"

Everyone chuckles at his enthusiasm.

"Oh, I'm sorry," says Eva, reddened. When she goes to the dressing room to change again, Lokedall stops her.

"Wait, you don't have to still her," he says to Eva. Then she turns to the group and asks, "Well, do you have a plan?"

"We wanted to go to the market Isabel told us about," Leah says.

"Yes, but first we should go to the Arena to sign up for the fight," Eva says as she goes to get her clothes and puts them in Lucien's bag.

Gr!

"Don't growl at me again," Eva says to Lucien, pointing the finger at him. "I'm going to participate whether you like it or not."

"I don't like it," Lucien growls.

"Well, you'll have to help me to get ready for the fight. Nothing will happen, everything will be fine," Eva says, whispering the last part.

Lucien holds Eva's gaze and the atmosphere is tense.

"Well, I think it's time for us to go, don't you think so?" says Leah, looking toward Isabel so that she plays along.

"Sí, sí. Otherwise, they'll close the register," Isabel says, nodding.

They both pretend to leave, and Eva and Lucien move away. The group walks to the door.

"Come back whenever you want. This is your home. Farewell" says Lokedall, following them and saying goodbye to them.

"See you soon.

"See you later.

"Goodbye."

"Adiós[2]."

Once out, the group meets to talk about the next step.

"Bueno, the registration to sign up is in the Arena itself. Follow me," Isabel says, and she puts herself at the head of the group to guide them.

They keep walking through the streets of Dhismiar, but the mood is still tense.

Finally, they arrive at the Arena. It's an imposing building, especially with so many skyscrapers surrounding it. It is circular, with the height of a six-floor building. It has the capacity to house more than ten thousand people in the fighting zone and about one hundred thousand people in the stands.

"I think, in order to register, you have to go to the ticket window. And that's... over there," Isabel says, pointing to the ticket window.

"Are you sure?" asks Leah.

"Por supuesto[3], the line is over there," Isabel says.

"And how do you know they come to sign up and not buy tickets?" Eva asks.

"It's obvious. Look at them," Isabel points to them and the group turns to look toward the line. "Now look at you. Both her clothes and yours scream 'I'm a guerrero,' not 'I'm a spectator,'" she says dramatically.

"It's all right. Whatever you say," Leah says.

The group heads toward the long line and lines up. As they wait in line, Leah and Isabel start chatting, while Eva and Lucien keep quiet, making a few comments from time to time.

At last, it's their turn.

The person attending the ticket window is a goblin: an ugly, greenish being, the size of a child. Everything about him is pointed: the ears, the nose, the teeth, and even the fingers of the hands. Goblins are usually mischievous and avaricious, which is good for a job like this one.

"Good, uh... Bluict," reads Leah on the label on his chest, where he puts the name, "We wanted to sign someone up for the Arena."

"Fine, fine. First, show me the invitation. Then you have to fill out this form and pay the registration fees," Bluict says in bad ways. His voice is a bit shrill.

"Here," Leah says with a smile, as she delivers the envelope with the invitation. Then she picks up the form and gives it to Eva to fill out.

After filling out the form, Eva hands it over and Isabel hands over the money.

"Good luck, you're going to need it," Bluict whispers the last part, as he looks from top to bottom at the girl who will participate in the fight and shakes his head. "Next."

The group moves out of line when a voice stops them.

"Well, well. What do we have here?"
