The Elderly One, nor old or elder. But the people of Estron couldn't possibly know, in fact, they have never seen the Elderly who resided deep inside the Dark Forest. However, maybe known was better than unknown, her description was uglier day after day. Truly, it started with a story to scare the children from the woods, but had developed to scare all who wanted to go inside.
Ask anyone in the town about the witch of the Dark Forest, they will give a heated story as if they knew her themselves. An evil creature, rotten from the core. Coldblooded, wicked, malicious, the worst of the worst. Pray that you won't ever meet upon the Elderly, you won't even have time to reason, you won't even have time to think. Your death will already be decided. Even more, pray that won't ever meet upon her beastly pets, life would be more painful than death.
Rumours were rumours indeed. Cause in the Dark Forest resided only one witch and her name was Ella. And Ella was loved greatly by the elders of the townspeople, who would never believe she was a witch even if she said so. For them, she was their golden child.
Regularly, at the first three days of the week, they could find her selling herb mixtures and beautifully handmade crafts in a corner of the main market street. After selling her things, she would stop by the food market and buy fresh groceries for dinner. Seemingly to have a shy personality, she never talked much. But was always amiable to everyone who greeted her.
The townspeople never question her existence and thought she lived by the border of the neighbouring town. Never would they dream of this lovely child was the with of the Dark Forest, the Elderly.
Walking in the market, Ella greeted everyone she knew, which had become quite a few. People here were friendly and treated her kindly after she introduced herself.
She was wearing an ocean blue dress today, covered by a black hooded cape, and with pitch black, wavy hair, both was complementing her fair skin. She was a young beauty, gaining many looks from the passerby, resulting her always have a hood covering her head, hiding away some of her features and hair. Except for a few strands of hair at the front, dancing in the wind.
Underneath the hood, she can lower her presence, making it easier for her to walk around the market and selling things at her stand. But those who really look will always find. Many elders on this street have gotten to know Ella so well, they could find her anytime.
"On time today, Ella, my dear." An old lady, Madam Fray, behind the fruit stand said as Ella walked pass her. Ellas' eyes, golden brown, as if reflecting the sunrise turned to look at her. Ella stopped and gave her a small smile. "Good morning, Madam. I'm lucky and on time today." She replied with a greeting.
"Good morning to you dear, what are you selling today?" The old lady asked, looking curiously at the urn inside the basket Ella held.
"It is autumn already and the days are getting colder. I made some ginger and lemon tea to warm the body and replenish from the cold." The latter answered.
"So sweet of you, the weather sure is colder by the day." Madam Frayed said and thought the girl in front of her was such an angel.
Ella answered some more questions out of courtesy and went to the corner she purchased to make a stand. The stand was ready for her to use with a small chalkboard for her to write on and table with put on her things.
She brought out everything inside her basket, a few cups, the urn with warm tea, and plentiful of tea sachets. Writing down the things she was selling, people started to flock by her stand. The smell of her tea was mesmerising and they could buy a sachet to make one at home.
Ella had a good reputation for all the things she sold. The herb mixtures always worked as stated and her crafts are beautiful no matter what. All were magical. Soon enough her stand was emptied and she tidied up to go home. Buying some fresh vegetable and a fish, she started on her way home to make dinner.
As she walked towards the town entrance, she suddenly stilled. Two men, dressed in dark clothes walked towards her direction. One in front of the other, as if guarding the latter. They could simply be visitors, and it was not the first time she saw nobles visit the town, but these two gave her a weird feeling, especially the latter one, who seemed to be the master.
Ella wasn't looking his way, but she was sure he was staring intently at her. But what his intent was, was yet to unravel. She had already lowered her presence to the minimum and standing in such a big crowd, his eyes were still on her.
She wasn't scared, but somehow his stare was disturbing. It irritated her so much, she finally looked up, just to see him already by her side, as they pass each other. His face wore a playful smile, the interests glimmering through his eyes. Having gained her attention, he said to his guard loud enough for her to her.
"You can't really trust the rumours after all. The only surviving witch of Estron, if she was evil and ugly, who can call themselves kind and beautiful?"
The first meeting, it wasn't love at first sight, but they sure caught each other interest.
