Chapter 5: Rise 5

With the last vampire charging off into the distance Jackson loosened his grip on his forearm the wound on his face sealed up with a scab while the new one from Jacksons own teeth oozed blood out. Sliding onto the floor Jackson rubbed his face the timer having dropped again by another thirty minutes.

There was no chance to meditate as the pain would only increase as the time drew closer which would make reaching the proper mindset a near impossibility. Even now there was no doubt in Jacksons mind that his stats were probably climbing as the genes began to devour what made him mostly human.

Rising from the ground slowly Jackson took a few slow lumbering steps pain like fire spreading from his nerves with each step the only thing keeping Jackson moving forward nostrils flaring as the pain amped up again when he slid through the crack.

Each contact with the stone was like rubbing a cheese grater down his body to peel away skin yet Jackson needed to leave the cave there was no telling what kind of appetite he would develop what the transformation started for real.

Heading through the woods all Jackson knew was that something that smelled good as saliva pooled in his mouth threatening to escape the time rushing away again as he hunted through the area not leaving more than a set distance from the cave. Finally the timer hit fifteen minutes left the pain now at the level where it was audible the bones grinding together.

By this point Jackson was left stuck in a tough spot one hand on a tree while muscle visibly twitched puffing up before compacting just as swiftly as it inflated. Yet with each time that the muscle repeated that process the bones were forced closer together cracks spreading along them before recovering within a few breaths of time.

As the timer hit three minutes a vampire appeared standing in front of Jackson a silver sword raised up triumphant smile on his face only for it to fall away in the next instant as he looked down finding Jacksons fingers buried in his gut.

"That's what you get you opportunistic fucker."

Before the vampire could respond Jackson slashed across his throat nails breaking as the entire thing was shredded. Latching onto the source of blood a savage glint became visible in Jackson's eyes as he clutched the body gulping down as much of the blood as he could while it was still warm.

While he was relishing in the taste of the blood the timer finally hit zero instantly causing Jackson to jerk back the bones in his rib cage expanding out violently then moving up muscles growing a bit while claws sprouted from his fingers tips eyes turning black. To round out the change his skin became a dark blue almost black all of his teeth becoming a bit sharper while the four incisors changed the most.

(It is advised for host to understand that you are not truly immortal much like the other so called immortal races you simply heal quick enough to halt or slow the aging process down to a one of a billionth major injuries may still kill you.)

Nodding Jackson adjusted the way he held himself adapting to the new strength and durability acquired from finally transforming into a hybrid all the sounds of the forest hitting followed by the smells. Then with a swift movement Jackson was racing through the woods on the trail of the scent of vampire already able to hear them faintly as two of them were standing around discussing on their individual finds.

Bounding through the trees Jackson spotted the armored figures as they discussed another vampire coming to join them where they were standing causing Jackson to slow down and consider the next few actions. Squatting amongst the trees the vampires soon welcomed the third and newest addition getting an update on the areas that he had checked out.

Charging out of the woods Jackson was upon the vampires in an instant one falling the moment he appeared blood splashing while with a roar Jackson bit into the throat of the next one with the third vampire shoving his sword through Jackson's back missing by a small margin a lung.

Whipping around the force of the motion forced the vampire to relinquish his hold on the sword a set of claws growing closer and closer until finally all that the vampire saw was brief flashes of ground and sky with just a brief glance of a headless body crumbling into a heap. Breathing heavy Jackson was left standing in a circle of bodies the business end of a sword sticking out of his chest.

Placing both hands onto the tip of the sword Jackson pushed it out with a few groans as it slid backwards enough for the healing tissue to force the sword the rest of the way out. Once the sword was out of the way Jackson started moving grabbing the legs of two of the bodies as he went past dragging them for a while before leaping into the trees to make it harder to track.

Soon Jackson was back at the cave hauling the bodies into it with some effort while the transformation began to revert until he looked human again exhaustion visible in his eyes.

"Damn these guys were a bit tougher to deal with then I expected. Though it seems my combat hasn't ended yet so someone is hunting good enough to count as active combat."

Tossing one of the bodies to the side Jackson stripped the other one of its armor and clothes replacing his own tattered coarse clothes with them pausing to drink the chilling blood that was just barely good cause of all the vitality it used to contain. In a few minutes there was a husk off a body left behind that landed on top of the other one creating a pile.

Now armored up and full Jackson moved into the shadows beside the crack in the wall claws returning in a more controlled and limited transformation the faint sound of footsteps growing closer filling his ears. The final vampire that had stumble upon the headless body was finally able to track down the other two by the blood they spilled out as they were moved.

Soon the vampire entered the cave his focus consumed with the sight of the bodies that were left in the view of anyone that entered missing Jackson as he slid out of the shadows and towered a bit over the unsuspecting victim to be.

In a blur of motion the final vampire crumbled clutching at what used to be his throat blood spraying onto the floor.

[Combat ended! 200 EXP, Lv. 1 Pain Resistance Acquired, Lv.1 Stealth Acquired and Lv. Up!]

Pondering for a few moments Jackson decided to use all of his available points to upgrade putting five in agility, three in endurance, and the last seven into dexterity.

With the additional upgrades Jackson was feeling stronger than before stretching out some kinks in his neck adjusting as quickly as possible to the changes. After a few minutes Jackson was done accumulating to the differences pausing to take a sword as he left the cave slashing the trees as he passed as a way back to it one day.

Each moment passed without concern again for Jackson allowing him to move rapidly through the woods as day and night cycled only growing a bit weaker due to his new found hunger on the third day sword long since abandoned as just his claws were used to mark trees.

*At Castle Corvinus*

Viktor stood in front of his throne staring down at the other council members obviously enraged as a body laid on the floor oozing blood out into the stones.

"I want that Lycan found and his head delivered on a silver plate within the next two weeks or else all the death dealers will find themselves sorely lacking an appendage."

Amongst the guards lining the hall many of them trembled briefly a death grudge forming between them and the Lycan that had escaped unaware that the very being they hunted was not going to fall nearly as easily as they would ever wish.

The three days that passed as they hunted for Jackson lead only to the cave where their patrols had fallen then back out to the woods discovering the other bodies yet no sign of the moonlight collar was discovered until the fourth day hanging off of a tree.

Soon they trekked past an old building in the woods the signs of a temporary resident having just vacated maybe a few hours before they arrived yet even as they covered all this ground in a single night they were forced to stay in the house as the sun rose up. Not that it would save the team of five as barely an hours walk away was Jackson returning to the cabin filled with animal blood fire wood in his hands.

Once he returned to the cabin Jackson could instantly smell the vitality filled blood of the vampires inside a wicked smile forming as the worst imaginable thing began to happen the sound of a tree being knocked down waking the vampires. Yet they were trapped inside by the sunlight just outside the cabin while a tree was hurled with a labored roar through the cabin allowing sunlight in screams sounding out.

With it Jackson gained experience while the death dealers began to fear being sent out on patrol as the remains of the last team was discovered four days after they never reported into the castle.

News reached them at the castle two weeks after that of a small force appearing amongst their holdings lead by a figure that stuck to the shadows the only distinguishing feature that had been spotted yet was a scar on his face.

Once news reached Viktor the messenger paid with his life while the slaves begin to suffer worse lashings reaching the level that they experienced during the movie only surviving due to the enhanced healing they could access. Jackson was rising to complete his promise even if the window was never actually used Tanis was owed a cushion to fall back on should his plan to help ever be discovered.
