He walked up to the gates. Looking at the building he felt out of place. Someone as small and dirty as him didn't belong here. He just knew. Ever since that day he knew to trust his gut. And he always would. Looking at the stamped paper in his hands he steeled his resolve. Without his mother and father and going so long without any kind of training or help greatly hindered him.
Walking up to the gates he was approached by a guard. "You there, boy. State your name and business here". The boy looked at the guard and did not reply. He only showed the paper in his hands. The guard took the paper to examine it. After a minute he seemed satisfied with it. "Follow me", he replied as he motioned the boy.
After entering the large building he knew that he definitely didn't belong. The white and black tile floor. The ivory columns. The large crystal chandeliers. As he entered he noticed all the people staring at him. all around his age. But they were different than him. While he wore a dingy coat, they were dressed in fine white garments. The air of nobility hung heavy around them. Their disdainful look in their eyes let him know exactly what his position here was. A lowly nobody.
After walking a minute the boy and guard came upon a door. The guard gave a light knock. Shortly after a feminine voice replied, "come in". The boy entered. It was a large office area. The large window in the back of the room offering a perfect view to the garden outside. In front of the window sat a desk with a woman at the head. She was beautiful to say the least. Shoulder length lavender hair. Sharp features. honey gold eyes that were framed by a pair of half framed glasses. The boy was stunned by her beauty. Too bad she was a woman.
She smiled at the boy and motioned for him to sit. as he did the guard handed her the paper and left. She glanced at the paper then returned to looking at the boy. She smiled that same sweet smile at him. "You can remove your hood my dear boy". The boy nodded then removed his hood. he was young. Maybe 18 at most. he had unkempt brown hair that was somewhere between short and long. His eyes a dull grey. lifeless. Like someone had sucked his soul from him. But the feature that stood out the most was his scar. It ran from under the right side of his jaw across his throat and under his shirt, making it hard to guess just how large it was.
She looked at him and asked, "What is your name". The boy looked at her. But not just at her. through her. Surveying whether she was trust worthy or not, She knew because she's seen that look before. He replied in a voice so quiet and meek she almost couldn't hear it. "Andol", he replied. She looked at him one more time then clapped her hands, "Well then Andol would you mind accompanying me for a while". Andol gave her a look that plastered all his mistrust on his face . "Why". he asked.
She smiled again. "Because silly we're going to test you affinity and capabilities". She giggled. To her this boy was like a puppy who had been abandoned and now didn't trust anyone. "What do you mean", he asked. She gave him a look that looked as puzzled as he felt. "Well", she said, "Before we admit new students we gauge their magic power and test their magic affinity so we can place them in a class that will help them grow accordingly". A simple answer when he thought about it. "Very well, lead the way".
As they made their way out of the office Andol asked the one thing he forgot to ask a second before. "What's your name". The woman turned and smiled. "My name is Alice". She turned back around and started walking away. Andol followed. On his way through out the school he noticed the stares. He couldn't stand it. These people didn't know pain like he did. they lived comfortably. They looked down on him. Because he was not from a noble family. Yet he was here in school for up and coming noble magicians.
While in his thoughts Andol didn't notice they had walked into a stadium of sorts. "Okay", Alice said, "We're here". He looked up. He was on a stage standing in front a large crystal. It was grey in color and stood a good few feet above him. "Okay Andol place your hand on the crystal and it will tell us your magic affinity". Andol placed his hand on the crystal and exhaled. It started to glow brightly. At first it was a vibrant blue. Then it shifted to a piercing white. Then it changed to blue and it went back and forth between the two.
"Okay Andol you can take your hand off the crystal now". Alice seemed excited. Andol also noticed there was a large amount of the students here watching him. he turned to Alice. "So what's my magic affinity". "Well my boy it seems your affinity is lightning and wind. but you know it's super rare for men to have more than one affinity". Andol looked at the group of students watching him. They were murmuring and the crowd was also growing larger by the second. He hated it. They treated him like a spectacle. Just like HER.
Alice tapped his shoulder and he turned around. "Now it's time for us to test your magic power do you know any magic spells?" Andol nodded but he motioned her to come a little closer. Alice came closer. "I can't use it here because it's too destructive." Alice put a finger to her chin then it her her. "Just shoot it into the sky." Andol nodded then turned around.
He closed his eyes. Focusing. The whispers of the students watching him grew louder in his ears. He would silence them. Andol exhaled. He then clapped his hands together, He started to concentrate the magic in his hands. Slowly he pulled his hands away from each other. The blue sparking energy in his hands slowly expanding with his hands. The air itself started to tremble due to the power in the energy. When he fully spread his hands apart the energy took the shape of a staff.
Andol grabbed the staff. He took aim towards the sky."Pierce the heavens and scatter into stardust!" He shot the staff into the sky with all his might. As the staff traveled everyone in the stadium was stunned. The air itself was torn apart by the magic spell of a commoner. After the staff traveled into the sky it exploded. It was beyond imagination. When it detonated it was as if the sun itself exploded. The students were forced to the ground by the pressure it radiated. the whole city shook. the stadium itself, which was enchanted for durability, had parts of it start to crumble.
When the pressure lifted and they looked to the sky they were amazed. The leftover energy of the magic rained down in a blue glitter. Just like stardust. Everyone looked towards Andol. This commoner who was supposed to be below them held such power in his hands. Not only that he had two magic affinities.
"Andol can you explain what that was." Alice asked with a look of astonishment on her face. "That was the only magic spell I know" he replied. Alice paled. This boy just used a heaven tier spell and he didn't know how crazy that was. "Well after that display i have no choice but to accept you. Welcome to Amari's magic academy." Andol paled a little. he honestly was hoping he would fail. he didn't want to be here. but he made a promise.
In the stadium there was a certain girl who watched this spectacle. She grit her teeth hard. She knew which class the principal would put that boy in. It was unacceptable. She would make his time here hell.
