75% I'm a General That Traveller to the Future / Chapter 3: Fei Qinwei

Chapter 3: Fei Qinwei

When she woke up again, darkness had surrounded the house. She saw a woman who layed beside her, whom now was her 'mother' and two other children, her 'siblings', who were younger than her.

It seems that she reincarnated in the body of the 6 year old girl named Fei Qinwei. She is the daughter of the dirt poor woman of the Cong household. They had lived in this shack of a house eversince she could remember and had always been pestered for money by that man ealier named Pei Lindong.

As this body was now hers, she would see to it that this body's family...or her now family would be well. It didn't mean that she'll wholly care for them as she was a stranger to these people.

From now on she was Fei Qinwei.

Quickly she stood up and walked silently out of the house. Due to her incident earlier, she wasn't able to see what the world looked like. Once Zhou Min went out, she felt the cold breeze, making her frail body shiver.

The land she walked on was rocky, but it wasn't one where she would cry once she stepped on it. That would be an embarrassment to this general's soul. Realizing that there was a sea ahead, she walked faster and sat on the sand, pondering.

Didn't boatmen usually stay up this late? Why don't I see anyone around?

And these clothes....

The clothes she and her family wore were truly unbefitting that of a woman, they were baggy clothes that had shoulder length hems and multicolored undergaments with flowers embroidered on it, that only reached the knees.

Were they truly that poor that they couldn't even wear proper clothes?

Even that man earlier wore the same thing but it looked much cleaner and had a different style. If he was so adamant on taking money then why are his clothes almost like ours?

When she turned 17, she was running around, training with the men and patrolling around the town. There, she had always observed that while there were poor people, they always had on the proper clothing. Even the people in the red light district had them.

Fishermen and boatmen were mostly active during the night and hostels in boats would turn up by the seaside, lighting up red lanterns.

'Did the times drastically change?'

knowing that she wouldn't get an answer, she walked back to the house and went to sleep.

...

At the break of dawn, she woke up and started fiddlig with her clothes. She was hungry but there was no food.

"Darling?" her mother called

"...yes?"

"how is your fever?" a warm palm was place on her forhead when her mother asked

"I'm good now...mother"

"ahhh yes, are you hungry? Mother will look for some food alright?"

"en" she really didn't know what to do nor say. She was still a stranger to this person she called mother. She sighed in the end. Truly, a hard task...but I shall persevere

Her mother went out of the house carrying a bucket. Two hours later, she returned home just in time for the two siblings to wake up

"good morning dears" she placed a kiss on their foreheads "mother brought food from the sea"

When Zhou Min checked the bucket, it had 3 shells. This was something one could find in the sea and the insides of it were edible.

Their mother prepared their breakfast and she observed everything that was happening silently but her mother had noticed this manner of hers and was quite worried

"are you still not well, dear? you seem awfully quiet?"

"I'm just fine mother"

"ahhh it must be hunger. come come, breakfast is ready"

"Sung'er, Ai'er come join your sister for breakfast"

Soon, the children ran to the makeshift table and ate

"what about you mother?"

"hmmm? oh I just ate" Mei Cong, her mother, gently smiled.Zhou Min knew that she lied but this made her feel comfortable warm inside and she embraced the newly found feeling. This woman was willing to sacrifice herself just for her children...

"mother, how about we share?"

When she asked this, her mother affectionately gazed at her with teary eyes. She was beautiful but her skinny self masked it slightly "Wei'er, mother is fine alright?"

"but I am not hungry"

"...alright, mother will eat some as well but you eat the rest okay?"

Min smiled "okay"

The family of four happily ate their meal for the day
