Seeing him from a distance before couldn't indeed compare from this short proximity.
From her distant memory that has been already pushed back to a dark corner, she remembered tiny bits of pieces about him.
Han Yun Xiang wasn't a doting father like her uncles. He normally maintained a straight face in most cases especially if there were other people around.
His expression only softened when if it's only her mother was around or in most cases, the two of them.
Though she could basically count on the fingers of one hand the times her father carried her in his arms, still she was able to feel the love and tenderness during those times.
Few months before they left the Han Family's main house, his presence became more and more scarce to the point that she almost forgot she has a father.
She didn't fully understand why they left without her father. It was only later on she found out that her parents divorced.
In her mind a 'why' question continued to exist but nobody was willing to give her an answer. She just got tired of playing it on her mind and eventually with the help of time, she totally forgot it, or so she thought.
And now he's here. In front of her, with the face she almost couldn't recognize or refuse to remember.
'What are the odds of him being someone that would help me?' She asked herself as her emotions were getting complex at the moment.
Her mouth opened and closed unable to form any sentence. In the end, she followed him like a shadow when he started to move.
Han Yun Xiang continued to walk and glanced back from time to time to check if Han Meixiu was still following him.
He knew this place like the back of his hand so it didn't take long before they arrived in the area where Han Meixiu and Liu Zilong separated.
Although they went the other way, this was the exact place Liu Zilong told her to run forward. "It's here." She said softly then looked around.
She saw nothing out of ordinary.
"Where is Brother Long?" She started to panic as she helplessly looked at her father. She already foregone her questions when she recognized him because there's more pressing matter they should address to.
Han Yun Xiang didn't answer her. He instead moved forward scanning entirely the area. His eyes that were looking everywhere suddenly squinted.
They walked for a few more meters before he signaled Han Meixiu to come over.
The moment she did, her heart pounded tremendously and her face lost its color.
There were droplets of blood! Her eyes started to damp and her lips quivered.
"We're not yet sure if these are from your brother." Han Yun Xiang said when he saw her as she started to let her emotions out. The young woman simply nodded.
Following the trail of blood, they finally saw someone covered in scrapped woods and metals.
Han Meixiu normally wanted to run to check but her father stopped her.
"Watch my back." He simply ordered and gave her a gun as if it was just a Popsicle to entertain her while he pulled out another.
She stared at the gun on her opened hands. It's not actually the first time she saw a gun as her maternal grandfather had one in his study that she accidentally discovered.
'Thank you for the trust father but how can I watch your back when I don't even know if I can really shoot!' She wanted to cry inwardly.
But given their situation, she's the only one who could support him.
She gripped the gun just like how she normally saw on TV. Though the barrel was longer because of the suppressor, the total weight was still manageable for her. She was somewhat worried as well about the recoil just in case she really had to shoot.
There was a time when Li Xioazhi briefly mentioned that if one could properly grip a handgun; the problem of the recoil would be lessened. But since it's the first time for her holding a real gun, she didn't know if her grip was correct thus she might really dislocate her arm if she would shoot! Nevertheless, she didn't have time to think much as she tried to face the other direction where her father was.
She just hoped deeply that targeting someone with a gun would be similar to hitting a target in a dart board. 'But darts and bullets aren't the same!' She scolded herself with the kind of analogy she just thought.
She shouldn't over think as she needed to focus. Any movements should be taken notice of. She might even shoot a mouse if there would be any that would suddenly cross.
She looked around to check if there's someone or something while she slowly stepped backwards.
Han Yun Xiang silently and cautiously moved forward. The person's location wasn't really that visible not unless someone would deliberately look.
Slowly, he moved his body nearer and tried to kick some pieces of broken wood nearby to check for any reaction. Since he didn't get any he became bolder and kicked again but this time it was on the exposed body parts.
There was still no reaction. He then hastily removed the covered scarps of metals and wood.
He knew this man.
"Is he your brother?" He wanted to be sure if this man was the one his daughter was asking to be saved.
Han Meixiu glanced and almost wanted passed out when she saw the man almost covered with blood. She couldn't be mistaken, that was her brother in law!
She was torn between going to Liu Zilong or maintaining her role as a look out.
Understanding the reaction of Han Meixiu, Han Yun Xiang was now certified this man was his daughter's brother in law.
'So, she was married in Liu Family.'
"Maintain your position; I need to check if he's still alive." He gave his instruction as he came closer to the man that seemed to be unconscious.
Han Meixiu withdrew her gaze and focus on monitoring the surrounding again. She didn't know how much time had passed when she heard her father's voice again.
"Let's go."
He was now carrying on his back her brother in law that was seemed to lifeless.
"Is he…" She couldn't muster the courage to continue her sentence.
"He'll be fine if we could send him to the hospital as soon as possible."
