Morning came, Emily dragged herself out of bed as she never did like early mornings, she decided to freshen up as quickly as possible and made her way down the long flight of stairs, her mood was written all over her face, the maids didn't even dare approach her to inform her about breakfast. She got her stuff, put on her combat boots and got out of the house waiting for the ride to school. During the whole car ride it was pin drop silence, not even music was playing in the background, deep in Emily's heart she felt uneasy knowing the fact that the target she has to kill is Alvin, she didn't even sleep a wink last night. This is the first time such an issue occurred, she never once felt this way, she was a trained killer and she lived her life to fulfil missions given to her. She could not comprehend what she was feeling, she felt inexplainable pain knowing that at the end of the day, Alvin will have to die. Once the car came to a halt, she knew that she had to put away all these feelings and start with the mission, she got off the car gracefully, made her way through the school gates and went straight to class.
She settled down at the seat near the window and started gazing at the sky. Her first class for the day will be literature, 5 minutes have passed ever since she came in and everyone was beginning to settle down, the teacher walked in to class and greeted everyone a good morning and she started the lesson. Few minutes passed and everything was normal Emily was worried at first that she will be put in the same class as Alvin, even though she is younger but due to her being academically inclined she is taking several classes way above her standard. When she thought that all was well and begun letting her guard down, that was when the person she did not wish to appear came barging into the class.
"Sorry Ms Rosa, I overslept, I promise there won't be a next time." Just by the looks of Alvin, anyone can tell that he really did overslept. His clothes was not buttoned properly and his hair still in a mess, but the more Emily looked at him, the harder it is for her to tear her gaze away. She was having a slight panic attack the moment she saw Alvin through the class door, who knew her luck was so spot on and the thing she prayed for not to happen ended up happening the next minute.
"It is alright Alvin, just go take a seat, class is just about to start." The teacher did not even seem to be angry and simply told him to take a seat. Alvin started looking around for an empty seat, that was when he spotted Emily, he threaded over and once Emily saw him approaching her, her eyes began to widen. Alvin walked to the seat beside Emily even though it was taken, he shot the bookish looking guy a look and that guy seem to understand what he wanted and scooted over to the only empty seat on the right.
Emily's P.O.V
School started on a good note as the first lesson will be my favourite subject. Class began few minutes after I settled down and things were going the way I wanted it to, 'A Alvin-less class' but that was when the heavens decided to play a joke on me, Now here I am sitting beside Alvin, a part of me was feeling an indescribable feeling, but on the bright side, things can't get any worse. . . "
"Hey, hope you are ready for the ice cream later on." Alvin looked towards me and did this mouthing-whisper thing. I pretended not to notice him as I continued listening to class, I felt his gaze lingering on me but I pay him no heed.
"Class, this semester there will be a group assignment, it will be in pairs. The assignment is due at the end of this semester, each pair will be tasked with completing a 30 page report on a which ever literature book you both agree on. I will assign the pairing and after that you can all start your work." I felt a migraine coming on, why must there be assignments given, even though I enjoy literature I totally hated writing reports.
"Danny and Harper group 1, Kingsley and Jamie group 2, Hadith and Pamela group 3, Alvin and Emily group 4. . . " once I heard who I am partnered with my brain went into frenzy mode and I didn't bother listening to all the rest of the groupings, when I said that things could not get any worse, I stand corrected, I totally take that back. When I slowly calmed myself down, Alvin had already dragged his chair over to sit beside me.
"Hey partner." Even though it was a simple greeting, when Alvin said it, it sounded so much like flirting and my heart felt a slight tugging on it, I really got to start being more professional dammit, what is this guy doing to me, it's driving me insane. I could not muster up the courage to reply as my head was in a mess and I was worried I was going to mess up by saying something like 'oh hey partner, who I am going to kill later on' so all I could do was to force a smile on my face but my brain was simply going haywire, I know that I should not feel anything for him, not even annoyance much less any liking as all these might cause a sign of attachment, but I feel like I simply could not do what my brain is telling me to. This situation reminds me of the song by R. Kelly, 'My mind's tellin' me no, but my body. My body's tellin' me yes'. Why must father send me on this mission, I would rather be infiltrating an island filled with top notch security guards and fighters to kill a 30 year old bald guy than be here getting my brain and heart fried with all these thoughts and emotions.
Amazingly we managed to pick out a book for our project and we are even the first few to be done with the choosing of the book. We picked out the most cliche book anyone can ever pick, Romeo and Juliet. It is one of my favourite book besides pride and prejudice as well as sense and sensibility. Flipping the assignment requirements paper open, I quietly browse through it, the first requirement will be getting to know each other, and secondly why did we choose the book to do an assignment on, thirdly we must also write down which part of the book did the other party in the group enjoy and why, and last but not least we must make a short poem related on the things we learned from the book. I simply wanted to finish my mission and move on with my life why must school make it so tough on me! If the person who created school is still alive I will surely rid of him and save all students from suffering such misery.
"So, my name is Alvin, I am 18, my favourite colour is blue and black, my spirit animal is wolves and I have a sweet tooth." My brain blanked out for a moment wondering why was he telling me all these. I wrinkled my nose and casually replied.
"Okay? So you are telling me this why?" that was when he pointed to the paper I was holding. I looked towards the paper again finally realising that he was just following the requirements I felt that a large 'STUPID' word was written and smacked directly onto my forehead. To diffuse the awkwardness Alvin chuckled and did something unexpected, he patted my head. I was stunned when I felt his palm on my head patting me, it felt like a bubble is growing in my heart and it just decided to pop. It was only for a moment and the next he withdrew his hand from my head, once I felt his warmth has left, I slowly regained my composure and coughed it off pretending that nothing happened. Just when I was about to open my mouth to do a self introduction, the school bell went off informing us that we have to rush off to our next lesson. I mentally heaved a sigh of relieve, this is the literal meaning of being saved by the bell. I packed my stuff all into my large chunky bag and stood up preparing to leave, that was when a hand stopped me. I turned around and saw Alvin holding onto my wrist, oh hell no, he ain't gonna carry me back into that wolf infested 'park' again. I struggled to get free but to no avail, that was when he opened his mouth and spoke then did I stop struggling.
"Emy, I don't bite, relax." He had this innocent look on his face even his eyes held an air of pureness, who is he trying to trick, it definitely ain't me.
"I'm just worried I will be late for the next lesson." I tried to brush it off and came up with a random excuse.
"Oh if that is the case then I won't hold you back. . . For too long." He had on a smirk when he said it, I swear he has an issue with me, when I heard the first part I was delighted and wanted to rush off but who knew he continued with the second part crushing my hopes of leaving.
"What is it you need me for, make it quick I don't want to be late." I tried to rush him and acted as a studious student who is very concern over attendance.
"It is nothing just wanted to remind you of our ice cream date later on." With that he winked and walked off to his next lesson. At that point I felt something was off but just couldn't put my finger on it, I walked as quick as my legs could take me to my next lesson, E-Maths short for Engineering maths. Hopefully she wouldn't be put in the same class as Alvin again, as this is also one of the many subjects where she did exceptionally well in.
