As I sat beside her, indulging myself by running my fingers through her ebony tresses, I noticed that she was relaxing. I continued to give her the small comfort I could. I used a small amount of hypnosis to ensure that she wouldn't dream or have nightmares about the last week. When I was sure she was in a deep sleep I got up and left the room quietly so I didn't accidentally wake her. I walked up to my friend and told him I would be back in no more than three days. He was to keep her safe until I returned, and to make sure all her needs were met.
I walked out of the inn into the night looking for the vampire who swore to take her away from me. I had nothing to go on, except for his scent. So I backtracked, back through the towns, all the way to her home. The carnage was awful, even for me. Blood splatter on all the walls, floors, ceiling, and the furniture. The bodies were left to rot, so I took them out and buried them. Planning to bring her back to pay her respects. I found no clues as to where these rogues had gone. I walked back into the small house and began going through the family's belongings, trying to find something that I could salvage for her. I found one dress that looked like it would fit her, and a coat that was in good shape, no blood spatter on either one. I walked out and proceeded to set the house on fire, thinking that I could bring her here with out her having to witness the carnage again. I watched it burn, making sure the fire didn't spread, until the last ember went out. The sun had risen and set, and again. I headed back to the inn, confused about why I couldn't find the rogues, and confused about why I cared so much about this human girl I had already gone to such lengths for. I walked, in a state of confusion, my mind whirling with determination and many, many questions.
