Chapter 14: Llyne Town

Llyne was a county town, the center of jurisdiction and administration of all villages and the lands — which are mostly floodplains of Verlem River — that subjected to Llyneshire.

Thus, the arable and fertile soil of Verlem floodplains was beneficial to Llyneshire as the county completely relied on agriculture as their only main resource.

Since Llyne had the control and supervision on the production of the farmlands and breeding of livestock on pastures, the large portions of the yield were being taken over to the town of Llyne.

The supplies were exported to trade with other shires or counties and exchange it into necessities that were not available to Llyneshire.

The rest of the portion from the supplies was distributed to all peasants and serfs of Llyneshire, enough to sustain themselves from hunger.

Undoubtedly, the town of Llyne was suitable and effective place to set it as the core of Llyneshire's economic activities. No wonder why the town was fortified and guarded by many soldiers.

The Verlem River provides additional natural protection on the west and south walls. The town was separated into three parts: central, inner, and outer.

At the center of the town, luxurious and elegantly designed lord's manor was built with the combination of wood, stones, and bricks. The manor house was not only lord's residence but also the town hall and the place for official gatherings. It was enclosed within the walls with a gatehouse — which was the only entrance and exit — was heavily defended with his well-armed knights.

The church of Llyne was situated at the opposite of the lord's manor, in between them was the town square paved with quarried granite stones called setts.

The inhabitants of the central Llyne were mostly nobles related to the lord and rich families, along with their servants and retainers. They were living comfortably in their stylish mansions within the vicinity of the central part of the town.

Various establishments and buildings were located inside the walls, the inner town was separated into four blocks.

On the east and west block, there were shops and houses owned by the commoners, the artisans, and the merchants. Several taverns to eat and drink, and also inns for travelers to lodge.

On the north block of the town was the market square surrounded by the west block and east block. Stalls were found all over the place selling goods such as fruits, vegetables, crops, wheat, lamb meat, and beef.

On the south side of the town had guild halls such as the Adventurer's Guild and Runningwell Guild, there were also vacant plots of land with a copse of trees and shrubs.

Outside the walls were occupied by peasants and they resided in their simple houses.

On the west of the wall where the majority of the fishermen and boatmen lived. On the east and north side of the wall, the farmers and serfs resided at this place.

The land on the south of wall was very narrow, so the town lord prohibited the people to settle there. Only the Walsburn Bridge and trees on the banks of the Verlem River could be seen.

Eirwyn and Aria entered the town of Llyne from the south gate and they could only follow behind Niel — who accompanied them to the Adventurer's Guild — they didn't know anything about this town anyway.

While walking beside Aria, Eirwyn opened his 'Menu' and selected 'Friends' to contact Terrell.

'Cling!'

In a moment after he sent a request, a window popped out. It was Terrell displayed on the window of the screen.

'Cling!'

"Heya Eirwyn! I forgot to tell you before the guards on the gate will stop you from entering unless you help them to kill the Feral Wolves on Fairview Meadows... Oh, it looks like you already entered the town." Terrell waved his hand to greet Eirwyn, on his background was a tavern filled with people.

"Thank you Terrell, that's very helpful to me but duck you! It's too late." Eirwyn expressed his contempt for Terrell's reminder.

"Hehe, I'm sorry..." Terrell scratched his head.

"Anyway, we went inside even without breaking a sweat." Eirwyn smirked at him.

"Wha... what!? How did you do that!? It was hard to kill 10 wolves you know! Oh, wait... you mean 'we'?" Terrell was startled but he his expression quickly changed became puzzled when he realized something.

"Yeah, Aria is right here beside me." Eirwyn confirmed as he nodded.

"Ohoho! So you did meet her. Tell me, tell me. What happened when you're alone, it took a long time before you arrive here. I'm very curious." Terrell grinned.

"... Bastard, just come to the Adventurer's Guild, we are going there now. You know that place, right? Let's meet there." Eirwyn tried to change the topic and informed him.

"Oh, I see. You had received the quest to register, eh? Okay, I'll go. See you later then." Terrell waved his hand and hanged up.

Their conversation had ended.

"Is that Terrell?" Aria saw the figure on the live video call window who Eirwyn was talking to.

"It's obvious. Why?"

"Nothing. I thought that communication feature of the game was pretty useful."

"Hmm... yeah." Eirwyn shifted his gaze from Aria to look at the town.

They walked along the cobblestone paved streets of the southern part of the town while Aria was enjoying the sights of various structures of the town that were built with stones and wood.

The town was bustling and prosperous, the non-player characters doing their everyday lives as if they were real people. There wore clothes commonly used during the late medieval era.

Meanwhile, a group of beautiful maiden aboriginals passed by while staring at Eirwyn as they laughing at him, much likely, on his getup.

"Tsk." Eirwyn felt very embarrassed but he couldn't do anything.

"We hath't arrive at the adventurer's guild. Did let us proceed inside shalt we?" Niel smiled.
