Thufrat woke up with a start the next day, covered in sweat and hyperventilating. Forcing himself to stop hyperventilating, Thufrat soon calmed down. He had a nightmare. This nightmare was recurring, but it had been ages since the last time Thufrat had it, and he had already tried to put it behind him. In this dream, he saw the woman he loved lying covered in blood in his embrace. Every time the woman died, the dream started over, and it kept going until he woke up.
Every time her lovely smile emerged in his mind, his heart started to ache. Even though she had passed away fairly recently, Thufrat felt like a decade had already passed. Even though normally people would be mad when their loved ones were killed, Thufrat was mostly just sad. He didn't care for revenge, all he cared for was her, and now that she was gone, he didn't care for much. A band of orcs had taken her life from him, yet his hate for orcs was barely above that of other monsters.
He had tried his hardest to protect her, yet she was taken from him anyway. At the time, Thufrat had felt that the world was unfair and that God hated him. But nowadays, Thufrat knew that they were just unlucky. Trying to see everything from a depressing point of view and thinking that the world was against him was a thing of the past, and he had changed a lot compared to back then.
Since he didn't want to waste any more time, Thufrat quickly left a couple of coins and a note on the table in the kitchen. He then swiftly left the village behind and disappeared into the forest once more. When the mother and her son woke up the next day, they only found a note on the table, where it said: Thank you! After reading the note, the sight of two shiny gold coins quickly filled their vision. Both mother and son could barely manage to hold tears back. In a rural place like this, two gold coins was a very large sum of money.
This family had originally had a man taking care of them, the woman's deceased husband, and the boy's father. When he was still alive, he was one of the strongest people in the entire village, and the family could live a peaceful and healthy life. But after passing away during an attack on the village, the man left his family behind to fend for themselves. As time passed, people started taking advantage of them, and they quickly lost their place in the village. With the support of some of the man's friends as well as the woman working as much as she could, the family somehow persevered.
The boy flashed a radiant smile at his mom and clenched his fists hard. [I will never let you suffer again mom! And if I ever get the chance, I'll make sure to repay you old dwarf!]
...
Zooming through the forest, Thufrat had completely calmed down. After leaving the village, he had found a nearby lake to wash himself in, and then he had proceeded to ride on this road for about 2 more hours. It was still early morning, and the few rays of sunlight that broke through the crowns of the trees were gentle and warm, keeping Thufrat'smood from deteriorating due to the cold. Thufrat had always been a fan of warmth, and he could never understand people who preferred cold over warmth.
With nothing else to do on the horse, Thufrat could only observe the surroundings as he rode. The dense and vibrant green foliage, as well as the exotic plants and flowers that could be found here and there, was very pleasing to the eye, yet Thufrat still felt the desolation of loneliness as he rode all by himself. Before long, another two hours had passed.
Without any warning, Thufrat's horse suddenly came to a stop, and he was nearly flung off its back in the process. As he was about to curse, the sound of footsteps appeared not far away to his right. Vigilant, Thufrat was about to disembark from his horse when a muffled boom suddenly broke the silence. A dark silhouette came flying out of the forest and flew straight into a tree on the other side of the road.
The tree's bark cracked upon impact, but the tree itself still stood tall. The silhouette tried to quickly scramble to its feet but instead vomited blood all over the ground. Thufrat was taken aback by the scene, but before he could say anything, 5 new figures emerged silently out of nowhere. These 5 figures were all clad in green clothing and had distinct pointy ears. They were elves!
The five elves were all males, and they wore quite frankly disgusting facial expressions. All five of them looked like they were about to break into laughter any second now, and they looked at the blood on the ground with a sneer. Most disturbing was the elf that stood in the middle, his expression was very perverted, and he couldn't help but lick his lips as he made his entrance. As for their weapons, they all had either bows or daggers or both.
After they all noticed Thufrat sitting atop his horse watching them, the tallest elf said something to one of the elves that carried a bow in his hands. After saying his piece, the elf, which was the one who had the perverted expression approached Thufrat. The elf with the bow blended in behind him naturally, but Thufrat didn't take any notice.
"Traveler, what brings you to these parts?" The elf asked.
Thufrat frowned, something was up. "I'm just passing by!"
The elf sneered, "That's your bad luck then!"
"Twang!"
The sound of a bowstring being released came abruptly as Thufrat was about to question what the elf meant. The elf that had blended in behind the tall elf suddenly showed himself, with the string of his bow vibrating intensely. Thufrat could only see a green streak soaring through the air before reality dawned upon him, they were trying to kill him!
Since the arrow was imbued with the power of the wind, Thufrat didn't have the time to dodge. He had other means to deal with this arrow though. Conjuring up a small amount of earth as quickly as he could, Thufrat used the earth to offset the course of the arrow slightly. Tilting his head slightly to his right, the arrow suddenly whizzed right past his face, hitting a tree that was over 40 meters away. The tree offered next to no resistance and the arrow just went straight through, continuing on its path.
Thufrat didn't just sit still and let them kill him. After the arrow missed, Thufrat jumped off his horse backwards and gave it a kick on its behind. The horse, startled and in pain, sparkled with thunder and ran straight for the elves. One of the elves didn't react in time and was trampled under the hooves of the Thunder Horse, ending his life almost instantly. Seeing the trampled, charred body of their comrade, the rest of the elves were enraged.
Before the horse could continue its rampage, its head was suddenly sent flying through the air as one of the elves appeared on top of it, his two curved short swords covered in blood. Thufrat had assumed them to carry daggers in the beginning, but he now realized that they were just unusually short curved short swords. The horse continued running for more than 20 meters before it finally collapsed onto the ground, sending a cloud of dust into the air.
The other three elves instantly coordinated their own attack, with the tall elf in the middle. The tall elf used a fairly large dagger, and he enveloped his figure in wind, before darting toward Thufrat. The other two elves both used short bows, and they stood back and prepared their shots. Thufrat noticed the elf with the long dagger coming at him, and he retrieved his warhammer from his spatial bag. After saving the life of Morgana and fighting to the brink of death, Thufrat had been awarded the warhammer he had laid eyes on in Ravenfront. Even though it was fairly far away, a servant had been sent on a mission to buy it. Thufrat had stayed in their mansion for two months after all, he had gotten it a long time ago.
With the dagger aiming straight for his heart, Thufrat threw out his own counter-attack. The blow of the warhammer split the air apart, but the clanging of metals didn't come as expected. The elf was faster and more agile than Thufrat expected, and a thin scar soon appeared across his right side. The elf appeared from within the wind about 20 meters behind him, an obvious sneer visible on his face. Thufrat felt a sharp pain from the wound, and he clenched his teeth hard, he had underestimated this elf!
As he was silently scolding himself, 2 gusts of wind arrived only a couple of meters away from him. The other two elves had taken the opportunity to launch an attack while Thufrat was still surprised, and their attacks were coming straight toward his chest. Thufrat didn't dare underestimate his opponents anymore, and he instantly urged his bloodline to cover himself in brown scales. Now covered in very protective scales, Thufrat managed to deflect the arrows using the backsides of his hands.
Before anything else, Thufrat quickly surveyed his surroundings, which gave him an idea. The elves didn't get the chance to continue their assault as Thufrat suddenly raised his leg high, and stomped down hard on the ground. Earth walls shot straight out of the ground within a circumference of 2 meters. The walls tilted outward, and Thufrat was completely hidden within. The walls weren't entirely perfect though, as a part of them was lower than the rest. The tall elf only sneered at such a weak attempt at a defense, and instantly went on the attack.
Since he couldn't rush at Thufrat straightforwardly, the elf suddenly jumped up high into the air and twisted his body in the air. His feet landed on the side of a tree that was facing the part of the defense that was slightly lower than the rest. Using the tree as if it was the ground, the elf pushed himself forward once more, this time with his course heading straight for Thufrat. Since he saw the formidable defense of Thufrat's scales, the elf went all-out and used his strongest skill. With his long dagger in front of him, the elf started spinning at an insane speed, soon making his figure a blurry haze.
The tree broke apart from the force of his feet, and the elf disappeared in a flash of green light. Using the wind, the elf turned into a spinning force of death, heading toward Thufrat at an incredible speed. This skill of his was truly tyrannical in its power, the only downside was that you would barely be able to see while using it. Even though Thufrat was supposed to be scared out of his wits, he only smiled as he heard the elf breaking the tree. He had been steadily accumulating his mana for a while now, and it was time to release it!
Thufrat swung his hammer using all the force he could muster, and he imbued the hammer with all of the mana he had accumulated. The hammer shone with a bronze hue, and Thufrat sent it straight toward the elf. Since the elf couldn't see what Thufrat was doing, he was just heading straight into his doom. Even though his skill held a fierce and scary penetrative power, in a head-on collision, it didn't amount to much.
"BAAAAAANG!"
A large sound echoed throughout the forest, and the other elves' hair stood on end, an eerie premonition took control of their hearts, and they couldn't help but gulp. A silhouette came flying through one of the walls made out of earth, making it all crumble down in the end. The silhouette flew through the air, and then landed squarely in front of the other elves after bouncing off of a tree. The silhouette turned out to be the tall elf, or what used to be at the very least. A mushy and unrecogniseable mess was all that was left off him. With blood all over his body, and pieces of bones jutting out here and there, it was quite the grotesque scene.
The two elves that used bows were scared out of their wits, and felt like vomiting. When they had no idea what to do any more, one of them felt a tap on his shoulder...
