Chapter 1: Condition
Happiness, a luxury some people are born with. Fear is something everyone is cursed with. some people are born with fear, instead of happiness. these people are hard to spot, the only thing they have in common is their bitten fingernails. I'm one of those people, some people do it nervously, or out of habit. But we do it out of anxiety.
when I was born my parents thought I'd would be their happy little girl, but when the doctor told them about my 'condition'. It was simply a race to see who would leave first. they made their attempt when I was 6. they made it to the train station at the same time, before getting a call from my school to see where they were. A year later they made their second attempt, and mom won't. she sends letters sometimes, talking about her new life with her new happy family. my father is barely home and when he is, he drinks.
Years later, I'm 15 now I'm moving in with my mom and her happy family. Dad just dropped me off and told me to fake happy. I've done it before at every holiday that we spent at a relative's house. I bounce on my toes waiting for them to open the door. when it opens mom stands there in shock. I plaster on a big wide smile and widen my eyes
" hi mommy, I've missed you so much! "
I hug her and relax my face. though in my mind my fear was churning, ' what if she sees right through this? ' kept running in my head. she pushed me off and looked around.
"where is your father, dear? " she said looking over my shoulder.
"Daddy told me to tell you 'all fixed', when he dropped me off" I said painting on a thin smile.
