(Y/N)
We walked by the sidewalk since there are hovering cars and other vehicles that passed by. The sun was shining brightly, and I feel the wind ebbing through my hair gently as if it was a flowing river. The weather was really great, and this picnic would be indeed a splendor of good memories.
"Daisy's getting fine by the way Y/N. She even helped me in catching the burglar that entered the house yesterday. That's why I captured him easily." Nancy was behind me, holding the picnic basket and other things we bring while I held Daisy. The dog snuffed the surface, as what they would do always. I chuckled softly, being happy that Daisy didn't go wild. I remembered when I was 14 years old when I first took a walk with Daisy. It was autumn in September and it was my first. That memory was one of the memorable experiences in my whole life.
We continued to pace by the sidewalk as I continued to reminisce such memories with Daisy. But that was the most memorable one. Little did I know that someone was calling for me.
"Y/N!" Nancy shouted. I realized that I was ahead of her. Well I didn't mind walking while I throw backed a while. Daisy was still in my grasp, not letting to repeat the same yet memorable mistake. Although we're in the middle of a forest, there are still vehicles hovering and rolling by the main road. We took the sidewalk to avoid accidents.
"Hurry up, we do not have much time." I yelled back as she was starting to fasten her paces. "Faster!" I laughed at her lousy jogging. From a distance I can still see the joy within her when she chuckled. She paused for a bit, then ran quickly towards me. And so she finally reached me, her hand patted your left shoulder. She was exhausted.
"You shouldn't take this so harshly (Y/N)." She recovered, a smile curled up on her weary face.
And so we continued walking until we reached the minimart.
2 minutes later
At last! We've arrived at the Greenhill Mart. Before going inside, I tied Daisy to a post for a while. Then Nancy and I went inside. It was cold since there was an aircon
"What shall we buy?" Nancy asked.
"Anything there." I whispered. We then both chuckled.
A lady in green uniform with a leaf sign placed on top of a golden circle greeted us warmly.
"Welcome to Greenhill Mart. Please feel free to buy something there." She smiled. We gestured also as a sign of greeting. Then we continued. We split apart to buy some snacks more easily. I am at the snacks area, specifically at the junk food aisle. So I took out my list:
Picnic list:
(3)Doritos
(2)Tortilla Chips
(2)Barbecue Pic-A
(4)Wonka Tart Candies
(6)Licorice (Cherry)
(1)Green Apple Jell-O
(3)Spicy Hungarian Sandwiches
(1)Peach Sherbet (for me)
(1)Blueberry Gelato (for Nancy)
(2)Mountain Dews
(2)Cheeseburgers
That was all. Anyway I got $120 here in my wallet. So I started to rummage the things I have to buy. Nancy will buy the other ones. I spotted a barbecue flavored Doritos and grabbed two of it.
...
We directly proceeded to the counter and paid all we ordered. Nancy had also $150 so we decided to pay a part. In all we paid $130 with me paying $70 and Nancy the rest.
"Thank you for stopping by, we hope to see you again." The woman greeted kindly.
"We will." I replied as we grabbed our goods and rushed to the door. Daisy was just waiting outside, looking like she's gone into meditation.
"Aww, Daisy's just being calm." I said cutely.
"She's not very energetic. Is she okay?" Nancy asked, making a questioning look.
"Oh I'm sure she's fine. She doesn't feel upset like all this time." I said in a pleasing tone. Then I settled the goods to free Daisy.
"Well we must hurry if this picnic is to happen." She is determined to execute this plan.
"What are we waiting for, let's go!" I jumped with glee as I quickly grabbed the rope of Daisy and the goods.
Out next destination would be at the Brunswick Farm.
...
We walked from the mart to the way back home but we get past through since the ranch was on the left side of the mansion. Instead of the main road we took a hidden shortcut since we knew the place well, especially for Morrison since he lived here. We traipsed past tall pine trees and we've spotted some critters that lurked by the forest. At last we reached the farm of our neighborhood just as I saw the sight of a barn house. Excitement struck both of us Nancy and we scampered off until we reached the entrance. Two patches of hay were scattered on the right side, while a wagon laid by the right side. Brown picket fences were all over the place, so that the animals here might not escape. But silence swept over the area so we treaded lightly. I manage to gesture while Nancy spied the area if there is someone on active duty.
"Hello!" I shouted. No one answered.
"Mr. Brunswick!" Nancy too shouted the surname who owned the whole ranch, even the land.
Still no one answered. Anyway the door's open so we should get inside.
"Let's go in. I think Mr. Brunswick didn't hear us from here." She nodded. Then we approached the door and went in.
The barn was quite wide, still pertaining to the olden country days, as what Jack said before. Old and unused rusty equipment were placed in a corner near the door. Even the barn's wood chipper had been stocked here. Probably it had gone haywire through years of usage.
We've met the other side and the sight had been nostalgic. Wide patches of grassland had consumed the view, the long brown fences serving as the boundaries. Animals were also everywhere. Five cattle, three chickens with their young and two horses: black and white as I have counted like in the blink of an eye. The whole purlieu was just in New Zealand (even though I never went there). Except for the weather, which is very very sunny. The dog was still on my grasp and had stayed still. The goods were in hand, as always. But Nancy was not on my side. So I looked for her. But she abruptly came out from another entrance, not from the barn but from a nearby silo. An old farmer with a gray beard is with her, so I hurried.
"Oh Mr. Brunswick! So nice to see you." I greeted in a pleasant tone. Mr. Brunswick was a nice man.
"Great to see you too lad!" His accent is somehow familiar to that of Törbjorn. His looks are quite similar to him. "How's that big father of yours is coming, gotta patrolling the globe eh?" He laid his hands in his hips, very confident in his actions. Nancy went by my side making an apologising look.
"Well he hasn't changed a lot but he's doing great. He's on a special mission right now. But he hadn't forgotten the country life." I said, taking casual turns.
"Oh I see. So what brings you here ladies?" He suddenly brought to the gentleman way.
"We would like to have a picnic under the cherry tree, you know the one with the pink blossoms." Nancy told.
"Promise we won't pluck the flowers, we just wanna have a picnic that's all." I fast talked just as I smiled of fakery.
At first he was troubled. But that didn't last long. He sighed deeply.
"Fine. But promise me you'll not do anything that upsets me." The man warned.
"We will." Nancy finished. Then we took a path that leads to the grove. We passed the silo and the next sight laid an orchard of fruit trees. The cherry blossom tree was pink, all around. It even bore the flowers called sakura like those in Japan. I love those kind of trees and luckily there's one here. We entered the lush grove surrounded by trees of apple, orange, lemon, mulberry, pear, cranberry, cherry, and some I do not know alike anything else. I suddenly spotted a tree with pink flowers. That's it! I suddenly ran in perfect thrills towards the tree I've been looking for. Daisy also ran because she was also carried away.
"Be careful with the desserts!" Nancy yelled. I slowed down since I'm in a near distance with the tree. With every inch closer the cherry blossomed with glory as if it was a palace of fantasy.
At last, we made it. It has been a lifetime.
"We've reached the cherry tree!" I shouted. I scrambled to Nancy to set everything while letting go of Daisy.
"Daisy, do not go anywhere okay?" She barked back.
Nancy came over to help in settling the picnic blanket and to unpack the things we bought.
5 minutes later
Everything was ready. The food, blanket and basket, all was set. Then Nancy and I lied under the cherry blossom in relief, satisfying this exhilarating moment as bird sounds filled the air and the wind blowing calmly. Then I rose, making a squat position.
"Let's eat now!" I hungered for the hotdog buns and the cheeseburgers.
"We should take this as our lunch. Anyway, its getting noon by the way." Nancy munched the Doritos, chip after chip she picked. Anyways we're all getting hungry including Daisy. I tossed a hotdog bun and she caught it by her mouth and ate it up. The bun was delicious, even more with the tomato ketchup and Manhattan dressing. I ate it all up and took a bite on the cheeseburger promptly. God it was very cheesy that my hunger became insatiable as I gorged it. I then rummaged the basket and grappled a bottle of Mountain Dew. I laid the cheeseburger above the plate and opened the cap as I quench my thirst for a while. Then I swallowed the contents in a way that I can hardly feel it going down in my stomach. Nancy also ate the other one paired with her blueberry gelato in a fun size cup. It was silent then, save for the munching and eating.
"Nancy how was that boyfriend of yours? Did it go well?" I asked as I took a bite of the cheeseburger.
"Well, we broke up. He was a playboy anyway and there isn't a moment that I took seriously with him, I just do it casually like for lyfe." She talked a bit upset but a smirk suddenly twisted in her lips.
"Well at least both you didn't came to blows." I leaned my head at the side, being complacent at Nancy's situation. I took another drink and opened a Doritos.
"David was such an idiot. He doesn't know how to flirt or court with his slutty girls. And he gets mad easily. He only does things that might please him." She frowned, taking a munch of the tortilla chips.
"You shouldn't put much effort and thoughts about him. It might get wasted." I said, pointing out to her as if I gave her a lesson.
"Yeah. You're right. I will grow and die alone. I'm not in the mood for dating. Anyway I'll just sate myself for the life I have." She took the round chip and crunched it slowly, her face quite sullen of what she has experienced of such times.
A moment of silence will occur between talks of different topics we have. Some topics are funny and some are morose. Even we expressed interests or even of prejudice to people we know and we hate, but not the Overwatch team because they're my family and I love them. We almost spent 6 hours hanging out under the tree. Even Mr. Brunswick came by and joined us, telling his very interesting jokes that left our stomachs twisted by relentless laughter. This is my most memorable moment of the year. I wish Dad would be here too. I exhaustively spent all the time I have with them, talking and seeping all ideas and suggestions left in my brain, before preparing for the training, the real training. It was 6:03 when we went home.
...
"We're back!" I put the things on top of the table and rested at the sofa, chewing down the remaining stick of the licorice. It tastes like bittersweet cherry but still I couldn't keep up the chew. Meanwhile Nancy brought Daisy back at the cage and returned shortly to wash the dishes and return the things to their original places. I have the tart candies in my pocket. I'm tired. I yawned and decided to sleep for a while.
"Nancy I'll just take a nap." I yawned again. She nodded, continuing her doing. I went up the stairs and to my room and lied down in the bed. That was an unforgettable experience. I took a piece of candy and tucked it in my mouth before melting it. It tastes raspberry and is sweet. I stated at the ceiling for a while, thinking about what I should do next.
The training.
How am I ever going to make it?
Soldier enhancement program is both a lifetime and experience.
Can I endure every single task of every part of it?
Or that's what I expect at least?
All of the questions lingering came to an end just as I shut my eyes and prepared to embrace the alpha of new circumstances, forever.
No turning back.
