chapter 3
(two years later)
I'm twelve now. The main plot should be starting any time now. currently I'm at the hospital because six months ago my mom was admitted here *knock knock* "Come in" was the voice from the other side of the door. I opened the door and make my way toward her bed. "Hey sweetie" my mom calls out in a weak voice. Mom's been bedridden for four months now. She looks terrible, "Hey mom, how're you doing" I ask her. "Oh well you know, I've been better." she jokes. "Enough about all that. Tell me, how's your Japanese lessons been going?" she asks. "Watashi no ressun wa junchō ni susunde imasu" (my lessons have been progressing smoothly) I reply. I've been learning Japanese for 2 years now, my pronunciations of there by vowels are near flawless "Anata no nihongo wa totemo yoidesu" (your Japanese is very good) my mom says. I spent the rest of the day like this before I have to go back home. I have been living alone now for the past 6 months. But don't worry I'm not sad. I don't cry in my mom's room or anything.
(two months later)
"Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to mourn the loss of Sandra Kane."
Today is my mother's funeral. I have my own seat in the very back away from everyone's eyes. But I can still hear them "poor girl" they say. I can't help but think of The last words My mother said to me "Danielle, my sweetie. I forgot to tell your father about you. So when you get to Japan and meet him, I would like you to give him this letter" How could you forget to tell a person about their daughter.
As soon as the funeral was over I tried to get up and leave. Before I was able to get out the gate a hand grabbed onto my shoulder. On instinct I attempted to flip the body that the hand was attached to. My flip was countered easily. As soon as I notice that I was unable to flip the person, I turned around to see who countered my attack so easily. When I turned around, my eyes met with the person who countered my flip. My tongue slipped and I said the first thing that came to my mind "Mom" she chuckled and said "No I'm not your mom. Hi my name is Lana, I'm your mother's friend from when she worked for the government." "oh hello..... Lana I don't think I've seen you before" "You haven't, I live in New York" she replied to my statement "I'm here to drive you to the airport."
As we step into Lana's car (purple 1970s Aston Martin v8 vantage) I asked her "How did you counter my flip?" "Me and your mother have been practicing martial arts since we were young, about you're age. Although, we weren't nearly as good as you are at your age." "oh" was my answer. "so I hear that you're smart. you're already a sophomore, even though you're just 12" "yeah mom used to say I'm too smart for my own good." "Hey, let's change the subject to something less... sad so you're moving to Japan. how about that" Lana asked
"I don't know, I'm supposed to meet my dad for the first time and he's supposed to be some sort of martial arts master. I'm so nervous, I'm getting twists in my stomach" "Hey, don't worry. I'm sure he'll love you." "You said you know my mom." "yeah and?" "do you know my dad?" silence permeated the car "I've met him before, yes" "What's he like?" I ask. "From what I remember, he was a bit of an ass, and somewhat pompous" Lana replies. "....Is he nice?" silence again. "...He's not mean" "Oh well then that's great" I said sarcastically "Hey now, we'll have none of that in my car. like I said earlier, he'll love you" "I sure hope you're right"
