Chapter 77: Chapter 76 - First Floor
Caleb and Janice passed me a coin each, they trusted me, there was no way I would run away with it anyways. Janice on the other hand did have some hesitancy at the start, but it was her plan, and when she thought through it, she passed the coins.
Next, as they were no longer lit up, they rubbed some dirt onto their faces, and walked towards the door, and not a single kid on the street paid them any attention at all.
From the dim light from the lamps on either side of the door, I could see Janice waving her arms for me to come over.
Okay Evelyn, I told myself, all I have to do is to make it to the other side, and we are good. The pink cross is on the front of my chest, and as long as I don't turn around no one will know that I am the person they should be hunting for.
Taking a deep breath, I surveyed the floor, it was not as smooth as the stone floor in the alleyway, it was dried sandy floor, with tiny rocks and pebbles scattered across, reminding me of the orphanage.
I leaped forward.
Not wasting a single moment, I charged, step after step, I rushed towards the open door.
Two steps, three steps, four.
Dropping onto all fours, I slipped through the crack and passed Caleb, and Janice, just as I heard a scream behind me, followed by loud footsteps that were getting louder with every passing moment.
I wanted to turn around and peek at what was happening, only to feel a hand push me back inside and stick my face against a wall.
What happened next, was the sound of swords clashing, sparks erupting followed by thud sounds, as bodies dropped to the floor, and then silence.
Caleb and Janice were indeed skilled with their weapons.
They killed two boys and one girl.
"See how dangerous you are?" Janice started as she pulled her Fork out of the dead girl's body lying on the floor.
I wanted to reply, but Caleb raised his hand to stop me.
"Easy Tiger. The real test starts here."
"We are doing the Stealth test, so it's important that we are able to remain hidden. I think that is why they introduced this light across the chest thing. To test how well we can hide and stay hidden."
"From my understanding, there are 5 buildings that we will need to cross to reach the destination. Out of these five buildings, two are connected with bridges, and two will require us to jump across an opening, and one will have a clothes line that we will need to use to reach the other side, where jumping will simply not be an option. Once we make it to the other side, there will be a chute that takes us down to the ground floor and we can run into the bell tower."
"You sound like you have all this figured out."
