Chapter 61: Chapter 60: Bait

"Stop it, you two. It's not helping. This is the last thing we should be doing."

"In front of us are god knows how many real dead bodies, there must be at least a dozen of them that are still alive. Sooking over their lost coins. Not to mention god knows how many children are hidden in the buildings."

"When I pick up that coin on the floor, we are going to need to run for it. And I mean run for it."

Augustus was giving out instructions even though he was covered in blood. His vision was blurred, and his clothes felt sticky, and even his shoes felt slippery.

He was well aware that he couldn't run fast, he knew he was fat, and didn't need anyone to reinforce that fact. But what could he do, he loved eating and that was the last thing he was willing to give up!

I mean to him, you only live once, you might as well eat and enjoy everything available to you.

And at this moment Augustus wanted to fight for his life, his mind was set. He wanted to survive and make it back to the academy and have a feast! He was not going to let some stupid test stop him.

"Take out your weapons boys, we are going to make it to the other side!" Augustus said as he grabbed his hammer. Evan and Ethan followed taking out their lance and sword respectively.

"It's not going to be easy boy, and I know I am going to be a burden to you both. But if you want to run, I won't stop you. No hard feelings." Augustus was trying to be strong. He did not really want the boys to leave him, he took a deep breath, and to his surprise, the boys did not leave. "Well then, let's get to the other side."

Augustus bent down and grabbed the coin and a green line shot across his chest.

"We are going to make it to the bridge boys, we may be weak alone, but we are strong when we are together, so why don't we run to the other side."

Without skipping a beat, the boys shot out. Weapons out, eyes on the bridge, their feet hammered the floor.

Dirt shot out, grass ripped, and just as they had predicted, boys and girls started to turn towards them and get up from the floor.

It was like three giant wrapped presents running towards them, how could they resist.

But the boys didn't miss a beat.

Augustus smashed his hammer into the closest boy's face, and Ethan plunged his lance into the boy's chest throwing him backwards, rolling and smacking into another kid.

"Score!"

"See brother, what did I tell you. Augustus is a good lad. His street smart!"

"Whatever, he's just trying to save his own ass."

"Well brother, you got to admit that was one touching...."

"Duck!"

Evan pushed Evan's head down just as an arrow missed by a hair.

"Stay alert idiot!"

Augustus was at front leading the boys, sounds stupid right, but it was all part of the plan.

Augustus had explained to the boys that he knew he was the weakest link, and that he would definitely be the easiest target.

So why not use this weakness to their advantage.

Augustus was bait.

Augustus moved fast, his foot hammered the floor, step after steep, dirt splashed as he charged ahead.

350 metres.

Augustus was starting to feel his heart screaming for him to stop. His feet burned, his legs numb, he was having trouble breathing, but he continued.

Boom, boom, boom.

Dirt, soot, water, exploded.

Grass ripped and instantly dozens of eyes were glued to him.

Teenagers, boys and girls, shot out the doors, kids dived from the windows, they all wanted a piece of Augustus.

Quickly there were one dozen, two dozen, three dozen kids marching towards him.

The closest one, a teenage boy, no older than twelve had his sword out and raised. He was going to pounce Augustus and steal his coins.

Five metres.

Three metres.

One metre.

Ethan's sword ripped across the poor boy's chest. Dropping him to his knees screaming.

300 metres.

But it was not over yet.

More and more kids pounced towards them.

"Dude! How many of these scumbags are there?"

"How many more do I have to kill before this all ends? I'm getting tired."

"11…12…14!

"How many have you killed brother?"

"16…"

"Show off!"

The plan was working, boys and girls were so focused on Augustus, they weren't paying attention to Ethan or Evan at all. They were even thinking that Evan and Ethan had the same idea as them and was chasing Augustus. The boys stormed through the field, passing the workshop.

200 metres.

"We are nearly there."

Just as Ethan retrieved his lance, a loud voice from behind screamed something the boys wished they didn't hear.

"Idiots! They are together, and all three of them have four coins."

Stunned. Ethan stopped running and turned around.

Chasing from behind, were the two boys and the girl from the tower.

The one who had spoken was not the one he liked. This boy had short curly hair, wearing black tracksuit pants, a red leather vest, and was coming fast. He was closing the distance with every leap.

And spinning in his arms were two metal balls with pins stuck to a chain.

Five metres.

Three metres,

The boy threw the weapon right at Evan's face.

Without a thought, Evan did the only thing he could think of, raise his arms.
