Chapter 46: Chapter 46: The Palace

Palace Grounds:

7:32 PM

Augustus removed the blindfold.

He was in a confined room, so tight that he could barely move.

Hanging over him and lighting up the room was an old medieval lamp. Around him were large blocks of stone, stacked one on top of another, creating a round circular room. Each side had an empty opening that must have been used like windows to see the outside.

He was in a tower. It all made sense now.

Earlier the truck that transported him had stopped, and his whole team walked out like prisoners, one after another, hands on the top of the person in the front. They had walked across bridges, walked through soft lawns, and climbed up and down staircases. Time after time, they stopped, and a member of the team would leave the group.

Augustus had the worse luck ever. He was last to be let go.

After climbing a long series of steps, that spiralled up and got ever tighter as he went.

His legs were killing him.

This was meant to be a stealth test, not some marathon.

There was no way he was going to survive this.

He was no thief. He was big and round, and every step he took boomed and echoed.

There was no way in the world that he could steal from anyone, even if he managed to get the additional coin somehow, he would be a moving target.

How on earth was he going to get one more coin?

He walked to the side and stared out the window.

He was at the top of a castle, in a tower.

He was literally at the highest point of the palace. He knew because he could see the thick brick walls that surrounded the outskirts of the castle, the golden resemblance on the walls, and the fact that he was at the highest point in the building.

Plus, there was a golden fence that surrounded the palace. At the bottom of the castle were the courtyards, at the side were small tents and cabins outside, and further out surrounding the whole area was a moat and what looked like a draw bridge.

Damn,

Maybe he could swim across?

But who was he kidding? This was a medieval castle, so if that were the case, the most likely thing inside the moat would be crocodiles? And he didn't want to be anywhere near it.

I have to get out.

In the distance, just past the moat, was a path that leads towards a giant bell tower. It was at the centre of the city. It was easily double the size of his tower. It made his tower look like nothing.

Damn it. Even if I could get the coins, I was going to need to climb that freaking tower?

I really hope there is a lift that can bring me up.

But first things first. Augustus was going to need to go down the staircase, cross the courtyard, past the houses and the tents to the castle walls and then somehow drop the drawbridge to leave.

But there was one other problem.

He could see that there were many people scattered downstairs and knowing his size, and the plan of his team he was toast.

People are going to see me coming, and I am going to be the most natural target.

Unless

I find someone to go with
