Chapter 34: Chapter 34 - Tina
She didn't look like a threat.
Sitting there looking at the floor, with her hands shaking left to right. The whip ratling in her hand. There was no way in the world that I would lose to her. Even if she could master all three weapons. She was just a little girl.
But my parents had always taught me to never underestimate an opponent.
It could be the end of you. They would always say, but I never believed them. I always won.
"Come."
She didn't move.
This was frustrating, I wanted to grab her by the hair and pull her to the centre of the room and begin our fight.
"Go on Evelyn, it doesn't hurt to have a preliminary fight. Maybe you will learn a thing or two about your weapons."
"Don't worry, I'll intervene, if things go haywire,"
Yes, the teacher's words must have reached her.
She was holding onto her whip as if she was about to come up when the boy next to her grabbed her arm and whispered to her.
The girl's whip went from in her hand, to being wrapped around her waist and she pulled out two knives that were as big as arms. The boy helped her, tilting the black bade backwards, safety side against her arms.
It didn't matter what he said. Or what weapon she used. The results would be the same. I was going to knock her over and beat her.
She got up.
Taking one small step at a time. She was finally in front of me.
"Are you both ready?"
This girl had her hands out, holding her knives in front of her chest.
Grabbing onto the bar, I shot forward, tip aimed at her chest.
Cling*
She had actually managed to block my attack by swinging her blades sideways.
But it was not over. Twisting the shaft, I dug my feet deep and lunged forward.
Cling*
I pulled back and shot forward again and again.
Cling* Cling*
She was actually holding her own, and this made me furious.
Pulling my spear back, I swung it horizontally like a baseball bat.
Her hands shot up trying to block it but it was not enough. The knife flew out of her hand and the pole of my spear connected with her neck with a loud crack. She was thrown off her feet, tumbling and rolling on the floor.
It's over, she was done for, I rushed towards her but she unsheathing her whip, and she lashed forward. I stopped.
But it didn't get anywhere near me, it dropped right next to her on the floor.
Jumping up, spear raised above my head, I slammed down, smashing her in the shoulder.
She dropped onto the floor, screaming, charging forward, I kicked her in the waist, making her roll to the edge of the mat.
But it was not over, in that split second, she grabbed something in her hand and threw it out at me.
Rod swinging, I tried to hit them as they came.
One.
Two.
Three.
A sharp piercing pain shot across my face.
One of her stars had actually hit. And my blood boiled.
I was going to get her for what she did.
I jumped forward. Thrusting the tip towards her.
It was going to hit. It was going to end her here and now.
Ching*
What happened? Xie Li had moved forward, blocking my attack with just a fan.
It was like no fan I had ever seen before, the whole thing looked like it was made of metal, it had sharp claw-like tips, and she was used it to glide right next to me, fan-out and placing it on my neck as if daring me to move.
"That's enough."
"We are not killing each other. Not on my watch."
"This is just a preliminary, you can go kill each other later."
"I still want you all alive."
She pushed back and got us to go back to our seats. The girl's neck was bruised but she was still alive with tears in her eyes.
Xie Li walked to the centre of the room and explain our weapons and demonstrated how we had used it.
The first attack I had used was called a "Lunge". It involved thrusting your weapon straight out towards your enemy.
The second attack was called "Double Strike". It involved striking out once, pulling back and striking again. She also mentioned something about a "False-Double strike" which involved pulling back and then switching it to a "Half-Circle Swing." which was when you place your blade on the left and swing it to the right or vice versa.
"Overhead slam" involved raising the blade high above your head and coming straight down.
She also mentioned the girl's attacks, "Side Swing", "Lash" and "Shuriken Missile" but I no longer cared.
And then the class finished and we were sent to our rooms.
