Chapter 27: Chapter 27 - The Stadium

It felt as if we were walking inside a secret passage, it was completely dark. All I could see was the shadow of the person in front of me.

The passage was so tight. I felt trapped. It could only fit one us at a time. We marched like soldiers, one after another, creating a soft tapping sound with each step.

When abruptly, I crashed into the person in front of me with a thump.

The door also opened at this time and staring at me with her cold blue eyes was Tina. It bought chills through my spine, but she didn't stare at me too long, instead, she turned and walked the other way and through the door.

I followed her and stepped out the door.

The room was humongous, with rows and rows of plastic seats that filled each side of the room. It was so strange, each side was in a single colour. Ranging from red to blue, to yellow and green. Children were entering from the other doors and filling up the seats.

At the top of the room were four massive large round globes that beamed rays of light into the centre of the stadium, where there was what looked like an award podium. This podium was surrounded by a sea of blue and the walls surrounding the river were at least three meters high making it impossible to climb out.

And dangling in centre mid-air was a glass box with the man and lady who had welcomed us on day one.

"Testing…testing…one two three."

"Welcome my children, I hope you still remember me. I will be your commentator today. And joining me today to commentate is our lovely Lee!"

"So, what's going to happen today? I hear your hearts asking. In a short moment, we will begin the second test."

Bang.

Two topless muscular men had come in and closed the door behind them.

What was the big idea? Why were they standing in front of the door? Were they planning to prevent us from leaving through the door?

"Well, shall we welcome the first candidates."

As if in sync large four glass boxes dropped from the top of the stadium. And in one of them with his face pale and trembling from head to toe was Augustus.

"So, this is what's going to happen. Candidates will be chosen, starting with volunteers, followed by being randomly chosen, each of you will need to eventually do this so there is no point hiding or trying to run away."

"The goal of this game is to have you all swim to the podium at the centre of the pool. The stadium is about 400 metres altogether, and just so that we are not staying here for too long we have prepared a countdown of 10 minutes to get to the middle."

A screen dropped down from the top of the stadium, with a big number 10:00:00 in the centre. Underneath the number were the names of the children in the boxes.

Augustus, Emily, Samuel, Evonne.

"Are we ready?"

Before I could even react, the floor disappeared, and they fell.
