Chapter 5: Chapter 5 - Memories

"Thanks, Lisa! I'll be on my way. I need to find Sister Maria and tell my friends the good news. "

"Take your time silly."

I ran back towards the older kids, I was no longer worried about the crazy lady. I was going to be adopted and my number one priority was to let Sister Maria and my friends know.

I don't know if I will ever have the opportunity to see them again. I would feel like I cheated them if they returned to the room and I was not there anymore.

Jason will be on the far right and Kristen and Clarke shouldn't be too far away. They really did make the kitchen look inviting today. The floor was swept clean, and even the rails were polished to reflect in the sunlight.

I am going to miss this place, this was the bomb, children lining up one after another getting their fillings for the day, a piece of bread or a piece of fruit if you're lucky. And your only cup of water for the day.

I had reached where Kirstin normally stands but she was not there. Had she found someone too?

I continued and quickly came to a stop next to Clarke.

He was standing alone with a group of girls. I always wondered if he was actually a girl because he was always surrounded by them. Even I didn't have that many female friends.

But he was kind of cute sometimes, the way he brushes his hair, the cheesy smile, and the teasing wink.

"My lovely god sis, did you come and tell me how much you loved me again?

"You're Funny! No. Can I have a word?"

"Of course, darling, anything for you?" he winks at one of the girls by his side. They giggle and I grab his hand and pull him away.

"I got something big to tell you."

"So long as it is not I love you. Because I already know that. You already know how I feel about you. GSF!"

GSF stands for god sister forever and it's a term that we made for us. It means that his like a brother to me.

Which is something I really love as I have never ever had a real brother or sister before and with that, he acts like a brother to me. Like sharing his food with me, look after me, and stand up for me if I am ever bullied.

But none of these things have happened apart from the food sharing. Which always seems to be me giving him food.

It doesn't bother me too much as he does do more work than me.

"Thanks, Evelyn, your such lifesaver. If I stayed any longer who knows what would have happened."

"You could just tell them you're like busy, I am sure they will understand and leave you alone."

"It's not that simple. I have worked hard to get my status with the girls. You won't understand. What did you have to tell me anyways?

"I am getting adopted!! This young couple came by and asked me how I would feel about leaving this place with them. And…and…I said yes!" I said jumping up and down and must have looked like a clown. But I couldn't help it, this was the first time I told someone and it made me so super-duper excited.

"You serious Eve?"

"Ya"

"Congrats man! I am going to not miss you."

"Aye!"

"Jokes man, jokes. When do you leave?"

"Once the paperwork is filled in. And I am done telling you guys and have had a good look around here. Lisa said I should make a memory of all the nice people, and places here. So that I remember my past no matter how much changes in the future."

"They are still filling in the paperwork? Do you think they have room for one more kid? Can I meet them?"

"I am not sure but I can ask. I wouldn't mind a buddy."

"Then it's settled! You will show them to me and maybe I will get the opportunity to leave as well! You got to say good things about me okay?"

"No problem, godbrother. I'll always look out for you."

"Thanks, eve, let's go!"

"Not this soon, I still need to find the others and treasure my memories."

"I don't know what you can really want to look at and keep in your memories. I find this place disgusting and can't wait to get out of here. The sooner the better."

"How can you say that? There is so much to love about this place, the beds that we sleep in at night, that creek and crank as we twist and turn, the long corridors that we run along to get to the kitchen or run in the middle of the night knocking on doors waking everyone up. I did it so many times! And the wonderful food that has been fed to us all these years, and the lovely sisters that run this place and tell us stories about the outside world. I am disappointed in you!"

"Meh, I wouldn't bother looking around, to be honest. I would just be looking forward to my new future away from here. Can you take me to your new parents now?"

"I will, but not yet, I still need to find the others."

"I think they'll be glad that you're gone. One less person to feed take care of."

"Why are you being such a jerk today? I'll come back later for you. Did you see Kirsten by the way? I didn't see her where she normally stands."

"Kirsten, hmm, I saw her leave with this tall African muscular man. He looked like he had been in some kind of war, scars everywhere from top to bottom. The coolest one was down his right eye. He looked fully hectic man I wouldn't want to be on his bad side."

"Wow, at least Kirsten will be protected. Anyways I am off."

I left Clarke behind and made my way towards the end of the kitchen, where I found Jason. He was the tallest kid in the whole orphanage so I just knew he would be here.

"Evelyn, I was just thinking about looking for you."

"Why? Did something happen? Because I have something too big to tell you."
