His Burden
"Good afternoon, how does it feel to be able to sleep at night like a normal human being?" Wang Guo Ming asked Yu Chen who just woke up from the bed.
Looking outside the window, Yu Chen saw that the sunlight shining down on earth had slightly dimmed with a tinge of orange.
Yu Chen was shocked as he realized that he had slept for more than twelve hours. Something that he has not done since he became a hunter.
A strong sense of guilt washed over Yu Chen's heart like a huge tidal wave smashing onto a piece of driftwood floating on the grand ocean.
He then asked Wang Guo Ming does Yang Guang ever sleep, which granted him the truth of being the only hunter in Song City.
Every night since the day all the active hunters in Song city are forced to stop hunting, Yang Guang had taken up the duty of protecting the city.
One child versus an army of damn creatures, night by night, month by month, year by year, Yang Guang fought alone.
"When he started he wasn't even a rank 1, he is just a normal child going around trying not to get eaten by monsters."
That revelation shocked Yu Chen to his core, it is a miracle that Yang Guang is still alive. No, it should not be a miracle because even the most miraculous thing in this world could not hold a candle to Yang Guang's achievement.
"But he had a ton of talismans to help him, so it is not as amazing as you think."
When Yu Chen heard that he felt like he was going to have a heart attack, not even the experienced hunters back at Gallant City could replicate Yang Guang's feat with just 'a ton of talismans'.
Things started looking up when Yang Guang got his secret gear, the natural bo staff. His journey to become the protector of Song City was finally looking up at that time, but this does not mean there are no sacrifices.
Seeing Yu Chen's curious gazes Wang Guo Ming explained that Yang Guang no matter how strong is still only one person, against an army there will be slip ups happening occasionally.
"The mortality rate for civilians in Song city is one of the highest in the world and Yang Guang has no one to blame but himself." Wang Guo Ming continued.
"How about the damn hunter org…"
Wang Guo Ming sneered at Yu Chen's question, never in his life had he seen such a gullible teenager before.
"Those bastards are waiting for two things to happen in Song City, the first is for Song City to fall and the second is for Yang Guang to die."
"If either one of these things is fulfilled the damn hunter organization would be able to gain two very important things from Song City, but you don't really need to know about that."
"That is the reason why there are no reinforcements coming from headquarters, those old bastards are waiting for their chance."
In the end, Yu Chen quiets down and remembered the day when he saw someone being eaten by a damn creature.
How many times had senior Yang Guang seen that?
How many times had senior Yang Guang failed to stop that?
How many times had senior Yang Guang wanted to give up?
"Kid, I know what you are thinking but he could not give up."
Hearing Wang Guo Ming's voice, Yu Chen snapped out from his daze and looked at the middle-aged man. The former damn hunter then told Yu Chen…
"Yang Guang's hands are stained with blood that comes from the ones he failed to protect…"
"And those stains go back to the day when Song City faced its greatest calamity."
"At that time, Yang Guang saw the death of many hunters including his own parents, while the ones who survived ended up like me."
Wang Guo Ming took off his shirt and showed Yu Chen a scar on his chest, the scar looked like a hole mark created by a claw of some sort.
"I had my heart ripped out from my body that day… most of us died that day, but the lucky ones like me survived."
"I lost my family during the fight, it was way more painful than having my heart ripped out."
"The damn creatures that attacked that day would do anything to destroy Song City, the injuries that incurred on us caused the ones like me to retire from being a hunter."
"Others who survived could not live with the images of death in their minds also choose to end their lives."
"No one wanted Yang Guang to be a damn hunter, we were about to give up and let the organization handle the matter…but that kid…"
Wang Guo Ming stopped as tears flowed from his eyes the pain of his heart being ripped out could not be compared with the loneliness and sorrow that he and the other hunters faced.
He then wiped away his tears and smiled, soon his smile turned into laughter as he looked at Yu Chen who seemed to be at a loss.
"Don't worry about it, Yang Guang said that he is going to change everything and get revenge for us."
"You might not believe it, at first we thought that was merely a young boy's dream…"
"But now that boy had proved us wrong time and time again by protecting Song City."
Revenge.
Pain.
Sorrow.
Death.
Life.
Yang Guang carried those burdens every day, even him being alive is considered a burden.
"I will help him!"
Yu Chen stood up and declared to Wang Guo Ming. The middle-aged man let out a peal of soft laughter and said…
"Thank you…"

Good_Light_Sleep I have just finished After School Tuition Centre and is currently on a break. I do not know how long The Damn Hunter will stay, but I am sure that I will finish the fight between Yang Guang and Ryagerro before leaving. Just so you know, I lost my motivation to write The Damn Hunter, so this means filler chapters like Yang Guang going around hunting will never happen again because I want to end the novel fast.
The release rate will still be three chapters per week, it won't be published on Monday, Thursday, and Sunday anymore. The release day will be random.
