Chapter 5: Overdressed
Chang continued trudging along for a minute, before thinking to call Justin to let him know what happened to let him know that she was on the way. When she reached into the pocket of her pants to pull out her phone, she discovered that it was no longer there.
Chang immediately reached into the other pocket to check to see if her wallet and house keys were still in place but everything was gone. She patted everywhere on her body as if they would materialize somewhere else. It was just a cheap grocery store phone, so while it was a loss, Chang could shrug that off.
Her wallet though had been bought for her by Justin on their first shopping excursion together after she moved in with him. She had been at a period of extreme lowness at the time and his friendship was one of the reasons why she got through it.
Chang almost cried at the thought again, but shook her head quickly dispersing the tears.
'I'll come back later and try to find it!' Biting her lower lip in frustration, Chang vowed to herself to go dumpster diving later. Plus it was not as if she could get much fouler than she already was she thought wryly. Soon she reached the restaurants front as she had not been too far when Jian had surprised her.
The dark windows prevented anyone from seeing in, giving the place a mysterious feel. A sign stating the establishments name, 'La Vie En Rose' hung over a heavy door, the only indication that it was the right place. At night it would be lit up a hot pink, when the nighttime traffic lit up.
Straightening her spine, Chang adjusted the collar on her hopelessly stained white shirt and entered.
Inside it was dimly lit, with circular booths, large enough for parties of ten or more to sit comfortably. The booths lined the edges of a dance floor where a small disco ball hung with multicolored lights.
A small bar sat to the right of the dance floor, where a handsome young man wearing just a bow tie stood behind the bar polishing glasses. As he worked the glasses caught dashes of the light, reflecting it every where, catching her eye.
Chang immediately felt overdressed seeing him in her white collared long sleeve and her black slacks as Justin had not told her what the dress-code was.
There was no one seated in any of the booths or the bar as it would not be open for another hour. At four the doors would open, and the place would bustle until 2am when it closed, Justin had told her. Chang had not even begun looking for him, when Justin came flying out from a door, she had not seen in her initial inspection. Like he had a homing beacon with her name on it attached to him, Justin flew right up to her.
Justin Che had slightly spiked short black hair that accentuated his handsome features. He had twinkling black eyes, a long straight nose, and lips most girls would die to kiss. Wearing a mesh shirt which showed off his well toned body and 6- pack abs, Chang's worries about dress code were further amplified at the sight of his attire.
"Girl where have you been!- OH MY GOD!!" He started to go off at her late appearance before stopping short at the sight of her disheveled appearance.
Chang's shirt had been stained with who-knows-what and had a small tear towards the bottom. Her hair, once combed to silken glory, was now a frizzy rats nest with what looked like some noodles stuck in it. Her face carried the tell tale lines of mascara tears down her cheeks, coming from red and puffy eyes.
"What happened to you?! Girl are you OK. Tell me what happened," Justin encircled an arm around her shoulders and directed her to the nearest booth. With his free left hand he snapped his fingers at the guy behind the bar. "Yo Andre, we need rum and coke pronto!" Justin called out behind him.
