Chapter 9: Report
Knock! Knock!
"Matthias, you're here."
"Please excuse me." Matthias said as he bowed when he entered the room.
There, the King sat there waiting.
"Have I kept you waiting?
"No. Proceed with your report."
"The prince is as rumored. He doesn't move, cry or laugh. But if you bring food near his mouth, he'll eat it."
"Even you couldn't change him?"
"It's my fault for failing your expectation, Your Majesty." Matthias tried to kneel in atone for his failure but the King just waived his hand dispassionately.
"Has the 'Explosion' happened yet?"
"No, Your Majesty."
[Explosion]. What a dangerous word. People living in this world naturally absorbed magic since birth but the magic contained is varied from person to person. If the magic exceed the limit of the container, the magic will be emitted by the body in the form of [Explosion].
If a child experienced [Explosion], he would have no control of the magic and maybe a danger to unsuspecting bystander. In regard to the royal family, the explosion is quite big due to the power contained in their bloodline thus their retainer are always tasked with monitoring this phenomenon. However, their duty also involved the opposite…
The King always believed that [Explosion] might trigger the prince to behave more human-like and the hold on his emotion might come off if he personally experienced this phenomenon but unfortunately it didn't happen yet.
A thought occurred to Matthias that if Prince Elmer did not have magic power, will he still cause an explosion?
"Six year old. If he doesn't cause an explosion by that time, dispose him." The matter of fact statement jolted Matthias out of his musing.
Approximately five years. Whether it's long or short. However, that is matthias' time limit. He understood that much.

Back in his room, Matthias was surprised to see Ieden standing by there.
"Ieden, what are you doing here? Didn't I tell you to watch over Elmer-sama?"
"My apology, Matthias-sama. But there is a slight issue."
"Issue?"
"Yes, it is still uncertain but Elmer-sama appears to have notice my presence."
"How could that be? Elmer-sama is still only a baby."
"But I must insist that the incidence did in fact happened."
"Report everything to me. From start to finish. Don't leave the smallest detail behind."
"Yes, Matthias-sama. As soon as you left, I proceed to stand guard in Elmer-sama's room. I hid in an inconspicuous corner of the ceiling. At first, Elmer-sama appears to just staring blankly at the ceiling but upon further observation, I noticed that Elmer-sama is apparently concentrating his sight from one corner of the ceiling to the other. I believed he was searching for something or rather me. When Elmer-sama's sight started to converged toward my hiding spot, I made the judgment to leave and started guarding Elmer-sama from outside the room. That the end of my report."
Matthias fell silent as he contemplated Ieden's report. As unbelievable as the report may be, Ieden would never lies to Matthias so the authenticity of the report is guaranteed.
"Mm, continue guarding Elmer-sama like that from now on. Report any other unusual things that happen from here on. That is all."
"Yes." Ieden acknowledged the order and disappear from Matthias' sight.
Matthias decided to respect Elmer-sama's wish to be left alone after some thought. But the thought that Elmer-sama was able to detect the Shadow's presence was surprising since only people with high magic power was able to do so. Elmer-sama hasn't experienced his explosion yet so this theory is out. Is Elmer-sama hiding some other power in his body? Elmer-sama mother's background is unknown even to the King so Elmer-sama may indeed inherited some abilities from his mother.

"Matthias-sama, this." Ieden reappeared in front of Matthias several day later with a nursing bottle.
"What happened?"
"When I was guarding Elmer-sama, I noticed one of the maid acting suspiciously. I followed her and saw the maid tried to throw away this nursing bottle. I quickly apprehend the maid and secure the evidence."
Matthias calmly opened the nursing bottle and his eyes contracted slightly. He then called out to the Shadows again in a low voice. People who knew of Matthias know that this tone of voice is only reserved when Matthias is truly angry. What contained in the bottle was enough to cause the temperature around Matthias to heat up significantly.
"Right here."
"This is an order. Find the mastermind. I don't care how many Shadows you use. You have two days."

When it's time for evening meal, Elmer noticed that one of the maid is absent.
Have she resigned? The milk that she brought always has a weird smell. Luckily Edna always came with another bottle or I will had already died from hunger. Until when should I still be drinking milk? Ah, I want to eat solid food.
