It was a new day. New beginnings. And for Sofia, D-day. Today was the day she would be meeting her fiancee for the first time in 2+ months. To add the cherry on the top, she would be with him for his birthday at 12am just as the clock strikes midnight.
Saturday's were normally semi duty day, as Vincent would try spending more time with Johnathan playing around. The duty was divided into morning's for him and evenings for Sofia, till dinner. And that was the same today.
Sofia spent her free time double checking everything she had gotten for Ben's surprise. His gift which included his favorite flowers and chocolate, and most importantly his handmade suit. She was pressing all the stops to make it a memorable night for the two of them. A romantic night.
Time passed like sand through an hourglass. It was dinner time, and almost time for Sofia to start on her nerve wracking journey.
Dinner was like usual. Johnathan, sitting between Sofia and Vincent, was enjoying his pampering time. Both father and mother would either rub or pat his head whenever he ate his greens, or in his case when he ate anything on his plate by himself.
Dinner was over and it was time for Sofia to be on her way.
Vincent knowing the plan, took Johnathan to his room himself to get ready for bed. A routine completed by Sofia since the day she started living with them.
Half-way, Noticing the absence of Sofia, Johnathan turned towards his father and innocently inquired "Daddy. Where is Auntie Sofia?" Looking around for any glimpse of golden locks near him, "Is Auntie Sofia not coming for bath time?"
Each question lead to Johnathan's aura becoming duller until they had reached his room. Before they could enter the door, he noticed the lights in Sofia's room being on. Quickly loosening his father's hold on his hand, Johnathan bolted towards the light.
The scene inside the lite room was not short of any romantic movie. There she was right out of the bath, towel covering what needs to be covered, and a hairdryer in hand, in the process of drying her hair.
Johnathan saw no significance to this scene, but it was completely different for the adults. Vincent in specific, who had brief eye contact with the almost naked Sofia before she looked away.
It was an awkward situation from which Sofia had no way of getting out due to the little man running towards her, with his arms wide open ready to be carried. The scene did not play out as expected because of the knight in shining armor.
Vincent had finally gotten a hold of Johnathan before he did something that should not happen. The boy was no road kill, the whole time he was in his dad's arms, Johnathan was struggling with the hold, trying to break free and go back to his light.
"Johnathan! That is enough out of you." Setting the startled boy in the hallway right outside their rooms. "Auntie Sofia has plans for tonight. Dont disturb her. Let her get ready."
Looking at the person with all the information, Johnathan quietly asked with tears in his eyes, "Is she leaving?"
His answer was only but a single word.
"Yes"
Looking at the person with all the information, Johnathan quietly asked with tears in his eyes, "Is she leaving?"
His answer was only but a single word.
"Yes"
Not understanding the context of the conversation, Johnathan came to his own conclusion. Sofia was leaving him.
Not being able to take anything else apart from the point where Sofia was leaving, He bawled his eyes out. It was the type of crying that even the person not in the hallway could hear him.
A door slammed open just as Johnathan was 3 seconds into crying. A half dressed Sofia burst out of her room startled, looking around for the source of crying.
Seeing the cause of his dilemma, Johnathan got louder. It was hitting him harder. She was really leaving.
Having no indication of stopping, Vincent signaled Sofia to go on back inside her room and continue getting ready. As she was not moving from her position, he voiced out, "I'll take care of him. Go on in."
Taking Johnathan into his arms, Vincent made his way into Johnathan's room. Setting him down on his bed, Vincent got down to his level and looked him in the eyes.
"What is wrong?" He was not a very wordy person and his son knew that.
Taking a while to get himself calm enough to talk, Johnathan said while hiccuping "Auntie not love me anymore. She leaving me." Just as saying the last few words, it hit him harder to admit it himself. The water works started allover again.
Finally getting the point, Vincent could only sigh and take the weeping child in a gentle hold. "She is not leaving forever." making Johnathan look him in the eyes, Vincent continued "Only for a day. Auntie is meeting a friend. She will be back."
The water works ended just as Johnathan understood the different meanings of leaving. Just to double check the point he asked "Auntie not leaving me? Coming back?"
Just a nod of conformation from Vincent was all it took for the kid to calm down and fall asleep in peace after his crying episode.
Exiting Johnathan's room after putting the child in bed, Vincent saw Sofia coming out of her room all ready for the night. A short white dress, white heels and a cream handbag and an over night bag. She was ready to go.
Seeing Vincent in the hallway, Sofia asked about Johnathan the minute she opened her mouth in concern "Why was Johnathan crying? Is he ok?"
"He just thought you were leaving forever." looking from Johnathan's room to Sofia, "He has become dependent on you. Dont know what I will do when you actually leave forever."
"Why would he think I was leaving forever?" Sofia inquired in confusion.
"When he asked why you were not the one getting him ready for bed, I said you where going out." Shaking his head with a sigh, "He took you leaving as not loving him anymore. But I got rid of this confusion. Dont worry. Now you better be on your way. It is getting late."
Vincent walked towards Sofia slowly and reached out to her as he got closer. Taking her overnight bag from her hand, he made his way downstairs with her.
Reaching the front door, he turned towards Sofia "I will have the driver drop you off at Ben's place, with a few bodyguards around the place."
"Why do I need bodyguards?" She inquired.
"I like being careful. And as you have been staying with us for awhile now, it is always good to be safe then sorry. And don't worry, they will be out of your way. But if You need anything, just let them know."
And so Sofia was on her way to Ben's Surprise with a security detail fit for a queen unknowingly.
Sorry for the false alarm. I had placed the chapter in the wrong volume.
But worry not, the new chapter will be up tomorrow at usual.
