Chapter 21: How do you know?
After feeling happy and excited for just a moment, Teresa started to feel guilty again.
"I have already decided to give up on you, to forget you. I treated you so coldly for you to stop chasing after me, but why must you treat me so good... I don't like you anymore... You had already hurt me so deeply... I can't afford to like you again... I don't want this complicated romance! But what do I do now, after you did so much for me?" thought Teresa as if she was talking to John. She felt so guilty that she did not know what to do.
"Should I give him back the gifts? But won't it be rude? But again, I can't accept all of this, it's too much, I don't deserve this... What do I do... what do I do!"
Teresa was so frustrated, she felt helpless, she wished this did not happen. She then thought about the letter that John had given her. After reading it, she felt even more lost... The letter that he wrote was about how he regretted leaving her side, and how much he liked her. It was a typical love letter which made her headache. She did not want all this. All she wanted was to be good friends and that's it. She wanted to leave everything in the past, but John was so persistent to chase after her.
Teresa left all her gifts at the corner of her room and went to her bed to rest, and to stop thinking about all the complicated stuff.
Knock, knock, knock.
"Teresa, you in?" asked Tommy her brother.
"Yes, what's up?" she replied tiredly.
"Hehe, I heard some rumors about you and your 'admirer'." Said Tommy with a cheeky tone.
"What?! When?! What rumors? About what?"she asked in a nervous tone.
"Ahahaha, it's about you and John. I heard that he gave you a huge cake and celebrated your birthday for you in school. So do you like him?"
"No, I won't! And how did you know all of this? Who told you?" Asked Teresa.
"Hey, don't be so worked up. I'm just kidding, don't be shy. I have my ways of course hahaha."
"I am not shy!"
"Wow, did he give you all this?" Tommy asked as he saw all the gifts in the corner of her bedroom.
"No, just some... Can you stop asking? I'm very frustrated right now. I did not want all this..." She said in a tone that could make one's heart ache for her.
At that moment, Tommy knew he had already stepped over her privacy. He knew that this sister of his has a soft heart and gets frustrated easily. He immediately said to her,
"I think I have crossed the line... Sorry, I will leave you alone now to cool down. Tell me if you need any help. And Teresa, don't be a sissy. It's just a boy, if you don't like him, tell him and ask him to not bother you anymore, if that does not work then let me know. I will help you deal with him."
Tommy was protective over this little sister of his. But he still wanted her to grow up and handle stuff herself. However, if anybody were to hurt his sister or make her cry, he would find that person and give him or her a lesson.
