Chapter 18: Finding A Job
After dinner, all of the family members went to sleep in their respective rooms. Tao Xue had a good impression of the day in general, just because of the dinner. He actually looked forward to the next day of school, which was seriously contrasting with his personality. He soon dozed off, waiting for the next day to start.
-The next day-
Tao Xue was heading towards the academy, with an extra bag, which was stuffed with the 'banner'. He entered the Academy, took out the 'banner', and placed it behind the walls of the main gate, and that too stuffed inside a bush. The whole point of placing the 'banner' near the main gate of the academy was so that it would be visible to a lot of people. Aside from its rotten condition, it was in a spot that would be very difficult to find even if the person was being guided by someone. It would be a miracle if someone would actually be able to see it, put it aside rather hiring Tao Xue.
After this, he headed on to class. After all the students had reached class, teacher Jun Yao came in, so that he could tell each of them about there selections, and mentor each of them accordingly. He had teacher Hai Wang, and the others, following close by.
He approached the students, and announced, "Those who have chosen Body Cultivation, please come and stand near teacher Hai Wang."
As he said this, a lot of students moved, including Ju Yuan, which was pretty obvious, as he was simply continuing on the path that his ancestors had laid down for his family, and him. There were 8 students out of the total of twenty of the whole class.
After this, teacher Jun Yao said, "The students who have chosen Soul Cultivation, come and stand behing teacher Cheng Dai, over here."
To this, Ling Shen, as well as 7 others, walked forward, and stood behind teacher Cheng Dai. There were the same amount of Cultivators in both the Body, and Soul types of Cultivation. This left only 4 students, whom had chosen the Mind type Cultivation, including Tao Xue. This was expected, though, as the number of Mind Cultivators had always been less, compared to the other two. These four stood behind teacher Bao Tan.
Teacher Jun Yao said, "Now that we know which student wants to learn which type of Cultivation, we will hand over the aptitude tests to you, each according to the Cultivation type you have chosen. The aptitude tests will ask you questions about why you want to practice a certain type of Cultivation. By this, we will get to know your talent, which is highly tentative, and is subject to change always. The talent is just like measuring the current scope of learning a specific type of Cultivation that you have. After that, you will be off for the day, and you can practically laze around."
With this, all of them headed towards the 'Testing & Practice Arena'. They took a while to reach it, but it wasn't that far at all, as they reached it in a short amount of time. After they reached inside, they each went to their respective sections, and this is where Tao Xue had to part with his pals. They waved goodbye for the day, and went off with their teachers.
The tests lasted for a very long time, and they were pretty much boring, too. The students had to drift off in a half-sleep state, while they were imagined by some Cultivators. The Body types were examined all over their body's general strength and flexibility, while the Soul types had the strength and versatility of their soul tested. The Mind types were tested based on the capacity of their brain, and how much thinking power and creativity they had.
After this rather sore routine, the day was over for the kids. After this, Tao Xue met up with Ju Yuan and Ling Shen, and told them about the job business. They were pretty sure that nobody would notice Tao Xue's banner, even if the Heaven and Earth collide, somebody wanting to hire him was not even worth mentioning, for them. Even though each one of these extremely realistic precognition of his friends, Tao Xue was still abundant on going and checking where he had left the 'banner'. He was sure that he would have at least one request.
They reached the spot where Tao Xue had left the 'banner', and believe it or not, there was actually a chit lying there, which apparently happened to be a request for Tao Xue. At this, Ju Yuan's and Ling Shen's mouths were left wide open, they themselves being completely awestruck. It seemed as if their jawbone had been completely dislocated, and that too permanently. They couldn't believe how someone actually found the 'banner', and still hired Tao Xue for a job. The only conclusion they could rush to was that the man was extremely and as equally desperate as Tao Xue, that he could rise to such heights, (rather, sink to such depths) just for a job. They saw the address, and headed towards it, the three of them filled to the brim with enthusiasm and curiosity. Tao Xue was excited as he was about to get a new job, and Ju Yuan and Ling Shen were excited as they wanted to see what kind of person would want to hire Tao Xue.
Once they reached the address, they saw that it was a restaurant. The owner somehow recognized them, and led them inside the restaurant, back into the kitchen, where he had been cooking a meal. He must have guessed that Tao Xue was the one who had asked for the job, and gave a self-introduction to him.
He said, "Hello, I guess you were the kid who left the sign for the job near the main gates of the 4 Seasons Academy. I am Shi Xu. I am in need of the job of a supporting-chef-cum-waiter. It's pretty difficult to handle things on my own, over here."
After hearing this, Tao Xue wasn't satisfied. He thought about the situation for a while, and then suggested, "Well, since I'm a student of such a prestigious academy, maybe, you could use me as your mascot, which would attract attention from a lot of people. That would be a win-win, as it would benefit both of us."
After the manager of the restaurant heard about this, he was quite a bit infuriated, and threw Tao Xue, as well as his two innocent comrades, out of the restaurant.
Tao Xue was bummed, as he thought in his mind, after the incident, "Man, that was harsh!"
