Chapter 32: 32 - Challenge
The happy couple is an inspiration to the whole of JADE. In the following weeks, everything went smoothly. However, life needs some spices.
On the last week of October, George's grandmother, who is in Ise was rushed to the hospital due to a long standing illness. She required blood transfusion and George is the best match.
Giving blood is not life threatening but it would mean that the couple will be separated for at least three days. Thinking about it, they both felt lonely. So, Cody decided to go fly with George early the next morning. They couldn't stand to be separated.
The universe was not cooperating, though. Just before midnight, Allen, Cody's most trusted assistant arrived at their doorstep. The stocks of one of their most stable subsidiaries plummeted in a matter of hours. The financial team was still trying to get to root of the matter.
This was a company Cody first founded when he started to learn the ins and outs of JADE. While it is part of their conglomerate, Yvonne's grandfather also held a significant share. He felt that the crash has something to do with her family.
As soon as George learned about the crisis, she asked her husband to stay behind to take care of it. Cody was hesitant, but the wife is hard to sway. In the end, Hiro was tasked to accompany her to Ise.
George and Hiro flew out at dawn while Cody set up meetings to solve the problem and meet the suspected culprit. He knows the old man has more tricks than him. Yvonne's grandfather agreed to meet him at 10am.
George and Hiro went to the hospital as soon as they landed. Their other family members are also there, waiting to assist George. The transfusion was done and she stayed in her grandmother's suite to rest.
Meanwhile, Cody went to the hotel of Yvonne's grandfather to talk to the old man. As soon as he got out of the car, Yvonne met him with a bright smile and held his arm to usher him in. She was dressed to the nines.
As they walked in, everyone's eyes were on them. But he simply asked where her grandpa is, slowly shaking off her grip. She pretended to not perceive his rejection and held on to him tighter smiling bashfully.
When they reached the center of the lobby, everyone greeted her "Happy Birthday" and congratulated her. Her grandfather approached them and signalled for everyone to proceed to the reception area.
Cody was ushered in and into the family's table. He was seated between Yvonne and her grandfather. He was anxious to settle the matter immediately so he can leave.
"Grandpa, can we talk for a moment?", he asked Yvonne's grandfather.
"Of course, after this luncheon," answered the old man with a silent warning in his look.
Cody understood that he had stay and not create any scene. Unbeknownst to him, the press is already cooking several articles about his presence in his childhood friend's birthday.
