Chapter 18: Last day
On the seventh day.
As usual, Stephen woke up early in the morning.
Tonight, he once again slept on the branch of the tree. The only difference was that this time he managed to get enough rest.
Stephen himself was amazed by this fact. It seems that he has a fairly high degree of adaptability to various circumstances, because already on the second day he was able to sleep on the branch of the tree.
For the former self it was pretty difficult to imagine such thing. You never know what are you capable of, until you experience it yourself.
Because the injury still hurt, Stephen did a light morning exercises and had his breakfast after. Then he started to wrap up his camp.
This was the last day of his stay here, so there was no need for this camp anymore.
After Stephen finished wrap up, he took all of his stuff and headed toward the cave with the BOSS. Killing the BOSS was the only thing he will do today.
To guard against contingency, Stephen decided that he will start his attempt to kill the BOSS, one hour before the deadline. So that event if something unexpected happened, he will be more safe in this way.
After Stephen arrived to the cave, he once again saw that arrogant overgrown cat. During this whole week, Stephen almost every day came to this cave to make his preparation for this day.
And every time he came, Stephen saw that look filled with arrogance and disdain.
Few times he even wanted to kill this bastard right away, but he managed to get grip of himself.
'It's not time yet. I'll make you suffer more when the time will come.' he kept saying to himself every time clenching his fists.
So this time, when he came to the cave, Stephen had a very wide grin on his face.
'It's a payback time' was written all over his face.
Bloodmane Lion even became dumbfounded when he saw Stephen's face. He had a bad feeling about all of this.
Bloodmane Lion had no other choice but to wait, since his duty was to guard treasure chest, and until this human didn't attack him or entered 10 meters zone, he wasn't able to take any actions against him.
Otherwise he would have already ripped apart this scaredy cat during their first meeting.
That's why he could only continue to look with contempt on this puny human. He simply didn't have another choice.
While having a good mood, Stephen started to make his final preparations.
He attached the rope from the camp on the tree 100 meters away from the cave.
Even though, there should be no need for it, he did it just in case.
He also took 10 homemade wooden arrows and placed them on the ground. After that, Stephen took briquettes made from dried twigs, roots, leaves and flowers and started to attach them to arrows.
This was his plan. Stephen was really surprised when he found this plant.
This plant is known as nerium or oleander.
Oleander is one of the most poisonous plants grown as an ornamental. It is toxic in all its parts.
Precisely because oleander is an ornamental garden grown plant, Stephen was able to identify it.
They had one such small tree in their garden. Thus, Stephen from an early age heard a lot of nagging from his parents about this plant.
Ingestion of this plant can affect the gastrointestinal system, the heart, and the central nervous system.
The gastrointestinal effects can consist of nausea and vomiting, excess salivation, abdominal pain, diarrhea that may contain blood.
Cardiac reactions consist of irregular heart rate, sometimes characterized by a racing heart at first that then slows to below normal further along in the reaction. Extremities may become pale and cold due to poor or irregular circulation.
The effect on the central nervous system may show itself in symptoms such as drowsiness, tremors or shaking of the muscles, seizures, collapse, and even coma that can lead to death.
Therefore, when he found this plant Stephen was in seventh heaven from happiness. Without it, he would have to give up on killing the BOSS.
Of course he tried to find another solution during this time, but unfortunately he failed.
Thus, oleander was his only method to kill the BOSS.
Stephen was very glad that he had some understanding about this plant. Otherwise, even if he racked his brain all seven days, he wouldn't be able to even make an attempt to kill the BOSS.
Like Nero said, there are no impossible quests.
But it's not a fact that you will be able to find a solution even if there is one. This time he was lucky to find one. But next time it will not necessarily be the same.
On the evening of the second day, Stephen went to the place where he found this plant and dug it.
Then during next days, he dried out its twigs, roots, leaves and flowers.
Of course, he also made a few experiments to make sure that it was a needed plant.
Poor rabbits….
When he was 100% sure that it's oleander, Stephen was even happier. He was able to put his heart and mind at ease.
So right now, Stephen was busy attaching briquettes made from the dried oleander to the homemade arrows.
It was his last preparations before the battle.
