A constant fire raged within the confines of the stone barrier, many embers rose from the flames, flickering into the evening sky. The fire was kept burning for an entire night by Fulrian. Though when it came morning she still wasn't going to yet put out the fire.
Fulrian reached to grab a nearby pebble and threw it at the sleeping Caerum. Getting hit square in the face, he was jerked awake. He threw his head in the direction of which he was hit came from, seeing the culprit, Fulrian.
"Had a nice sleep?" She asked.
He let out a sigh, the devil was up to her antics again he thought. He was still feeling weak. Even though he had gotten a full night's rest, he hadn't recovered from the amount of blood lost from yesterday. At least now he was able to move normally, though a little sluggish. He sat up, rubbing his eyes and yawned. He scanned his surroundings, only to notice now a fallen beast, hair on end fully charred.
It was a Vore Beast! A creature that a common mage would have trouble dealing with. He was hardly shocked at the fact that a Vore Beast decided to hunt near the camp. How long will this cycle repeat? Struggling through day after day and eventually collapsing from exhaustion.
Reflecting back on those days, he noticed something... he hadn't once went to relieve himself or excrete since graduation!
"Hey, caerum wanna eat?" Fulrian asked as she walked over to the Vore Beast and crouched over it the charred corpse.
"I-I think I gotta take a dump!" Caerum said as he sped off behind a couple of bushes leaving a very puzzled Fulrian over a cooked Vore Beast.
The books that Caerum read at home never told of heroes ever having the need to relieve themselves even once, they just gloss over it. Caerum dug at the ground hoping to create a hole to which he could do his business in, It was a race against time.
"AHH! Come on, come on, come on!" Caerum cried as he felt as he was holding back a dam from breaking.
He pulled off his pants. If he were to have let it free now, it wouldn't stain his clothes at least.
Back at the campsite Fulrian, could clearly hear all of Caerums' cries. Thinking of the potential trouble that Caerum could face, she grabbed a flask of water from her bag.
"Good thing I brought this along with me."
Placing the flask beside her, she started to skin the beast before her. Hoping to attain the delicious flesh that laid under layers of rough fur and tough skin. The echoes of Caerums' endeavor, set a strange tone for her as she cut up the corpse. There was only 3 days left until the Silver Wolf Trial and at this pace Caerum wouldn't even be strong enough to pass the trial.
Fulrian held a bundle of sharpened sticks beside her, she grabbed a stick piercing it into a large piece of meat extracted from the Vore Beast. Since it was a creature high in the food chain, it likewise also naturally had a high concentration of mana and nutrients. Though the corpse has been left for the entire night, it still seemed to be relatively safe to eat if cooked. Fulrian held of the stick dangling the meat over the open flame, turning it so it could evenly cooked on all sides.
The sounds that echoed from the bushes where Caerum was, could make basically anyone instantly lose their appetite. Fulrian tried her best to ignore those sounds and instead focusing on the plump and juicy meat in front of her. With a rustle from the bushes, emerged Caerum. His hands and clothes were stained with dirt, he looked like as if he were a stray and wild animal. He was panting heavily and his entire body was trembling, but luckily he seemed to have not gotten any excrement left in him.
Fulrian only gave a quick glance at Caerum, before she averted her eyes. She didn't want to have to look at Caerum in such a pitiful state.
"Go clean yourself with this, will you?" Fulrian said with annoyance and disgust as she proceeded to grab the flask of water beside her and threw it towards Caerum's direction.
The flask landed on the dirt before Caerum. Caerum bent over to pick up the flask and unscrewed the cap, pouring the water onto his hands before screwing it back on.
"S-so what are we doing now?" Caerum asked as he took a seat besides Fulrian, at the same time returning her flask.
"We're gonna be cookin' some Vore Beast, for breakfast!" replied Fulrian with great enthusiasm.
Skewering a piece of meat, Fulrian handed it to Caerum so he could cook it himself.
"I can't eat this, you know it has too much mana for me to tolerate!" Caerum said in worry as he tried to hand the meat skewer back to Fulrian.
"If ya can't eat it, than guess whose skippin out on breakfast?"
With a satisfied look, Fulrian pulled the skewered meat away from the flame, before giving it a large bite.
*Sigh* Why does fulrian have to be so difficult to deal with? Caerum thought to himself as he silently held the skewer over the campfire, watching it slowly brown.
"Lucky for you today, we're not gonna be fightin' any beasts." Fulrian assured Caerum with a mouthful of Vore Beast.
Hearing that Caerums' face brightened up like never before. He wouldn't have to go through hell like before again.
"Instead, today we'll be doin' a bit of hunting gathering. Then we'll get back to killin some more beasts tomorrow. How does that sound?"
Fulrian bite another chunk of her meal.
"Then when is this training gonna end? Soon?" Caerum asked with a slight frown.
"Round 3 days I suppose." Fulrian responded throwing away her skewer.
She dusted herself off before standing herself up. "Now what are we gonna do about the rest of this beast?"
Standing above the Vore beast, she gave the dead animal a few light kicks, she then turned to look back to Caerum; clearly expectant for any ideas on how to dispose of this corpse. Without any ideas he simply shrugged "I guess we leave it?".
Taking quick swig from her flask, Fulrian stepped away from the beast. "Welp, Finish up quickly cause we're gonna be headin' out soon."
She leaned on a nearby tree, staring off into the morning. The skewered meat in Caerum's hands was well done, tender and succulent. Though it would be a delicious treat for others, however Caerum didn't feel the same at all. He could already feel his stomach churning just from looking at it and eventually having to force himself to ingest such food.
How much longer will he be able to remain sane in an environment such as this? He thought to himself. The torn clothes he wore, left exposed a large portion of his bare skin, making him susceptible to the many dangers of the wild. As he was finishing up his meal a raven hopped towards Caerum, hoping to scavenge the remains of his meal. Noticing the raven hopping closer Caerum waved his hand at the bird and the raven responded with a shriek aimed towards Caerum before flapping away.
"Ya ready Caerum?" Fulrian said as she stood upright, her hand reaching for Caerum's spear.
With a firm grip, she uprooted the spear, dragging along a few chunks of dirt.
"Y-yeah sure, let's go I guess."
Fulrian kicked dirt onto the campfire dampening the fire. "Here's ya spear Caerum."
Being handed his spear a question welled up in Caerums mind. "Um, what exactly are we gonna be doing?"
By the time he asked the question, she was already meters away from him.
"We're gonna be searchin for some water first!" She said as she waved to Caerum to keep up.
"Oh, that's good." Caerum was a bit relieved. All he had to do was just walk around, though he questioned what would happen if a monster were to ambush them again like last time.
After that brief exchange the two walked in silence, wading through the forest hearing nothing but the serene sounds of the surroundings forests. "You got any plans of what you're gonna do after the silver wolf trial?" Fulrian couldn't help but ask, breaking the silence.
"Try to find a way to cross the Ultramarine ocean I suppose?" Caerums' brow furrowed.
"But what are you gonna do to achieve that?" Fulrian asked.
If Caerum were to attempt to cross the ocean after joining the Silver Wolves, he'd get annihilated before he could even reached the Ultramarine ocean. Smiling she waited for a reply. "Um, I'm not too sure actually." Caerum scratched his head.
He hadn't really thought of any plans to achieve his goals. Mostly because he didn't have time to, because of a certain somebody rushing him through everything.
Fulrian stroked her chin before she spoke again, "Well, if you don't know whatcha gonna do then?" She pointed a finger at Caerum, her gesture putting his focus on her words. "How about this? After we complete the Silver Wolf Trial, we head for the Capital of the Rothederial Empire. Yeah?" Caerum gave her a slight nod.
"We're then gonna try and clear Script Tower by the way." Fulrian said suddenly.
"Huh, wait… what?!" Caerum gave a brief pause in thought before replying. "So, right after completing the trial we go to the Rothederial capital, to clear ALL 10 floors of Script Tower?"
"Yep!" She gave him a thumbs up, served with a smile.
"But, why should we? What is the point in trying to clear Script Tower?" He felt as if it was foolish decision to attempt to clear such a dangerous tower.
"If we are able to clear script tower, I'm telling you, we will grow stronger in an instant!"
"Is it really worth risking our lives though? Just for a quick gain in power?" Caerum said as he doubted that two people such as themselves would be able to clear a tower designated as 'God's Trial' nevertheless.
"What do you mean?! We'll definitely be able to clear it. Ya got me. To protect you. And, there will be lots of people there too to help. So don't worry Caerum!" She gave him a reassuring smile.
Seeing her confident smile he couldn't help but cave in a bit, "I... sure, I guess we could do that." Caerum rubbed his neck as he said that.
Seeing Caerum a bit flustered she let out a little giggle. The sounds of a distant trickle of water soon made it's way to the ears of Fulrian. Alerted by the noise, she lifted her head looking towards the direction of the sound. "There must be a river over there!"
As soon as she said that she broke into a run. "H-hey wait up, d-don't just take off so suddenly! Urgh, come on!" Caerum cried as he forced his body to run after her, he was still recovering from the massive amount of blood loss after all.
A late chapter. Just got back from a 3 day Hike and I feel like crap.
