"Shi Yao, I... I like you. Will you... Will you be my girlfriend?"
Right after Han Jing spoke those words—pah!—a loud bang sounded from the table adjacent to theirs. It seemed like someone had slammed his chopsticks on the table.
Han Jing subconsciously turned his head over to look at the source of the noise, but due to the lush cover of green leaves, he couldn't see anything at all.
In this moment, his mind was completely taken up by Shi Yao, so he didn't pay much heed to the noise. He swiftly turned his gaze back to Shi Yao once more.
Perhaps she was shocked by his abrupt confession, but the young lady before him had stopped eating altogether and was instead staring at him with widened eyes.
Those large eyes that were so expressive that they seemed to be talking to you were exactly what that had stolen his heart and soul back then. Under the intent gaze of those large eyes, Han Jing's heart couldn't help but helplessly beat faster. All of the words which he had prepared in advance suddenly vanished from his mind in this instant.
But he had already mustered his courage to confess. He couldn't give up just like that...
Han Jing tried his best to calm his nerves down before continuing on, "Shi Yao, I'm serious. From the first time I saw you, I—"
Halfway through his words, Han Jing was abruptly interrupted by a series of screeching sounds coming from a chair rubbing against the floor.
Frowning, he shot a glance toward the source of the sound. Once again, it had come from the table adjacent to theirs.
When the screeching sounds finally came to a halt, he turned his gaze back upon Shi Yao to finish his sentence, "…already liked—"
But before he could say 'you', a song suddenly started playing—"
Yet again, it was still coming from the same table adjacent to theirs.
"..." Han Jing was choked into silence once more.
The chorus of the song would have those lyrics continuously repeated. When it finally came to a halt, he took in a deep breath before continuing his confession.
But this time, he didn't even manage to slip a word in before the table adjacent started playing another song—"
The heck, was he cursed? All he wanted to do was make a proper confession, but why did the adjacent table just had to interrupt him time and time again at this crucial moment?
Furthermore, it was one thing to play songs in the middle of his confession, but why did they have to be such depressing ones?
Han Jing took a deep breath and reminded himself over and over again not to be affected by his surroundings.
When he finally calmed himself down once more and readied himself to speak, Shi Yao placed down the chopsticks in her hands and said earnestly, "Senior Han, I'm sorry. I've only thought of you as a senior."
"
The adjacent table which was playing Dignity just a moment ago suddenly switched to an incomparably joyful happy tune.
Shi Yao took a momentary glance at the adjacent table behind her before turning her gaze back to Han Jing. With an apologetic expression, she continued, "So, Senior Han, I really can't accept your confession."
Hearing Shi Yao's response, Han Jing silently lowered his head. A long while later, he raised his head and squeezed out a smile for Shi Yao. "It's alright, Shi Yao."
As soon as he spoke those words, the adjacent table switched songs once again.
"
Amidst the sorrowful melody of the song, Shi Yao found that she was at a loss of words. She didn't know how she could respond to Han Jing, so she eventually fell silent.
Some time later, Shi Yao raised her head to look at Han Jing once more.
He was gazing out of the window, and the expression on his face had reverted back to normal.
But they couldn't just continue sitting here like that, right? Since she had rejected his confession, shouldn't she...
At this point, Shi Yao took a look at the table of barely eaten dishes and struggled internally for a long moment before speaking up, "Well, Senior Han. Can I... continue eating?"
