Chapter 8: Treasure and Wyrm

With Chaos awake and Pan's newfound power it was time to leave the territory as it was getting much too dangerous there, average ant colonies have millions of ants in them, and they should have felt when the telepathic link between the leader ant and the nest was cut.

'We're leaving gather everything and hang it on my head, we leave within five minutes.' He said to Pan urgently, it had already been three days since the ant leader had his telepathic connection cut, and the nearest ant colony from which these ants could have come from was only an hour away.

"Yup!" She responded speeding away to gather everything in one sack hanging it around his neck.

Within a minute everything was ready and packed, when Chaos was about to get lower to let Pan on she stopped him and instead directly jumped onto his back.

'You've gotten stronger, looks like we'll have to get you a new weapon and clothes.' Chaos said, and its true, her weapon was dull now and her clothes after several battles and training had been completely destroyed forcing her to wear a beast skin skirt and bra essentially leaving her naked and he was having none of that.

Though Chaos did not like her wearing clothing with such low protection rating, if anyone were to see her riding him right now they would most certainly be enchanted though he didn't know it.

Right now Pan looked like a full fledged barbarian, on her back is the great ax with scars of battle littered all over it, her in the skin of the beasts she's killed riding a two meter tall wolf with fur like a fire, giving off a domineering pressure.

The whole scene would cause people to have a true feeling of fantasy and wonder.

Within the forest any beasts getting within fifty meters of Chaos would get afraid and run away.

'What do you want to do?' Chaos asked Pan, right now they were running away but he was bored of just hunting and training everyday he wanted to explore.

"Let's find a human settlement first to gather information." She said stably "And then we can go exploring." A moment of hesitation later and she finished her sentence, she knew he wanted to go exploring all over, she could feel it.

'Then let's kick it up a notch!' He said speeding up even more, paying attention to everything around him for any signs of human life.

It wasn't until several hours later that the sun fell back to earth and night rose, slowing down he was now looking for a safe place to sleep rather than humans, he could go back to the hunt in the morning.

In less than an hour he had found a cave high on the side of a cliff face, jumping up and inside the cave was moist and dark, so he jumped back off the ledge and fired a big fireball into the cave to dry it up and kill anything that may be lurking inside.

Going back up the smell of charred flesh assaulted his nose, and Pan's complaints assaulted his ears "Couldn't you be more gentle! Suddenly jumped off the side of a cliff like that your bruising my legs here! I'm a lady for crying out loud!" And so her pinching hands and complaints unceasingly battered his ears.

Walking inside the cave it was cramped but with Pan's incessant complaints filling his ears it didn't seem so bad, reaching the back of the cave and identifying where the scent of charred flesh was coming from the cave opened up into a much larger space and inside was a four meter long black snake with a small horn in the middle of its forehead and venom seeping out of its fangs.

It was a Wyrm, a baby but a Wyrm none the less, "These creatures are notorious for guarding secrets and natural treasures!" Pan screeched jumping off his back and began searching the entire cave.

A minute later her voice echoed back to the entrance "I found it!" hearing this Chaos got up and jogged towards her voice, to his surprise she was holding a fruit, but the surprising part is that from this fruit he could feel wind aura, the kind of fresh and free flowing energy of the skies.

'You should eat it.' With this in mind he urged her to eat the fruit and in a moment she had completely downed it.

'Do you feel anything?' He asked.

"Not re..." Mid way through her sentence she stopped and started seizing up, but managed to stay conscious, Chaos watched on helpless since if he tried to do the same as before the fire energy may just get fanned by the wind energy causing her body to be incinerated or the wind energy could react even more violently and tear her body apart from the inside trying to escape.

'This is my fault for making her eat it.' Watching helplessly Chaos started pacing around in circles like an elder brother waiting for the good news on his little sister's surgery.

Thankfully this didn't last long as in a few minutes her body stopped seizing and a breeze flew into the cave from the outside lifting her body up and onto her feet.

Fully awake now she said nothing and just looked at Chaos' worried eyes and smiled, in the next moment picking her blunt great ax off her back and swinging down towards the cave wall sending an invisible burst of air cutting into the wall.

This single slash alone made him feel the danger of it, it could break his hide and if not careful could kill him, though lucky for him this sort of attack wouldn't work as a sneak attack because of his perception, though being able to completely dodge it is a different story.

'The skill is called Blanket strike, right now I can only shoot one at a time but i can feel the inkling of being able to shoot another at the same time, but i'm not powerful enough yet.' Suddenly her thoughts broke into his head, her smile widening even more, lighting up the surroundings with its radiance, her skin had become flawless and smooth, the power on her was now on par with the previous evolution of Chaos when he fought the ant.

'So you can finally talk back via thoughts, that's good, hmm?' Thinking till their a foreign feeling suddenly invaded into his mind and not just him but Pan as well, the connection was strengthening and evolving, changing, this causing sudden surges of random pain to their very core.

The few seconds of pain felt to them like years of hell and hundreds of tiny insects jumping around under their skins, biting at there very souls.

Afterword once it was done the two could get a faint inkling of each others feelings, knowing if they are sad, happy, angry or in danger.

"Unless I absolutely must I don't want to talk via my mind, it's weird and draining for me." Pan said seriously then lying down.

'Then lets sleep.' Chaos said lying down beside her, letting himself be used as a pillow for her.

The next morning.

'ROAR!!!'

The entire cave shook and trembled as an angry and mournful roar filled their ears.

Both Chaos and Pan jumped up and into battle ready positions, Chaos staying low ready to pounce at the slight inkling of movement and Pan ready to make her move as well.

Inside the cave above the corpse of the Wyrm is a massive snake, much larger than the other one, clearly an adult, but this one had small wings on its back.

Completely black once it made eye contact with Chaos and Pan it moved sending a spray of green gas towards them, seeing this they scattered.

Chaos fired off a full powered shot of fire right off the bat directly at the adult wyrm, yet the serpent seemed unafraid of the fire and instead shot off a torrent of green gas towards the spray of fire causing a magnificent scene of two clashing breath attacks.

It was also now that Pan appeared behind the Wyrm swinging down with using her newly acquired blanket strike cutting a fine line straight up the Wyrm's tail before disappearing into the darkness waiting for another chance to strike.

It was also once the strike landed on it's back that it's concentration lapsed and Chaos' breath attack took the lead directly enveloping the Wyrms head entering it's mouth scorching it.

From the flame however came the whip like tail of the Wyrm going for a sweep at Chaos' catching him off guard and sending him flying, it was also then that Pan appeared again for another slash, but this time the serpent had been expecting it and whipped its tail backwards sending her flying into Chaos who was just then getting up.

The wyrm looked at them full of rage and grief at the death of its offspring, but it waited for them to get up, it wanted them to suffer death by its poison.

'Get on my back I have an idea...' Chaos said moving to Pan and then heading off to the center of the hall.

It was now that the wyrm shot another breath towards Chaos' this one clearly much more powerful than the last one and with his power alone wouldn't be able to block it.

Then just as the venomous gas was about to reach him he opened his mouth and Pan put her hands in front of her, it was then that Pan utilized the remnants of un-absorbed fruit and sent an intense blast of wind into the cave and the flame jet fired, the Jet was encapsulated by the wind warding off the venom attack not allowing it to stop the breath and in the moment that the attack reached the Wyrm the wind tunnel opened up to show the flame jet going inside the beasts mouth again this time in all its glory, the wind tunnel as well turned into countless blades of wind cutting into the Wyrms body.

With this the Wyrm died by incineration, and Pan, pale and clearly injured after doing that lost consciousness, the only one left conscious now being Chaos albeit barely.
