Chapter 104: Winter King

"Yes, Hello?"

"Hello, Miss Robinson?"

"Yes that's me."

"A Chloe Robinson?"

"Yes."

"Hello I work for Sim Tech. You have been chosen to be highlighted in a promotional video. As written in out terms and services, I am calling to notify you. And to tell you when it will be coming out. The video will use your in game footage and will be released on the 12th of January."

Chloe looked to the calendar on the wall.

(15 December 2067)

"Ohh ok."

"Thank you for being a beta tester in the game. As per the contract you will get our latest version of the VR pod. And will also receive 1 hour early access to the game. That will be all."

"Yes thank you for the call."

The phone line was then hung up as Chloe's stood their shocked. She had read the contract and agreed to all the stipulated restrictions that were enforced on her. After finding out it was a VRMMO game she had jumped at the chance.

In her memory she could just barely remember there being a clause about promotional videos and her game footage. Nervousness swept over her as she realized that everyone would see what happened during her testing period. Of course they would cut and fix some areas, and probably leave things out that they want players to experience for themselves.

But it would also show case Liam and his sister. Now that Chloe thought about it, because Liam was showcased in the release trailer, it makes sense that he would be featured elsewhere. And as the person who interacted with him, she would obviously have her footage used.

As she was standing around in a daze, next to the phone, her little sister Jade rushed into the room.

"Chloe! A new trailer has dropped! A new trailer!"

She finally snapped out of her thoughts as she moved over to the TV. Switching over to the internet and searching for the video, she sat down to watch it. She wasn't the only one that would be highlighted.

********************

The screen was a pure black as words appeared.

"May Contain Content Inappropriate For children"

The message slowly faded away and a deep rumbling sound came out. It was one that would send chills down a person's back.

New words slowly came into focus. Bold words that seemed to be chiseled from ice.

(Winter King)

The words started to shrink as the camera pulled out. A frozen tundra with gale winds and snow falling, was produced. The barren landscape had nothing but a few zombies wondering around. Frozen blood was splattered on their clothes.

Their hulking figures and blue skins stood out in the barren land. Suddenly the screen zoomed to the left and traveled across the ground. Splattered red and black blood was zoomed over. Dead bodies half frozen. Beasts of unknown origin appeared. 1 Gigantic ice wolf was glimpse as it stalked towards its prey. Their sizes triple what one would normal see.

But the camera didn't stop for a second; it zoomed past everything in its way, before starting to slow down. In the distance a black shadow was cast. It was impossible to tell what it was from a distance. As the camera got even slower it started to take shape.

Next to 2 dunes of snow sat a throne completely made of ice, with blood dripping from the sides. Its sharp ice crystals shone brightly and almost seemed to cut you just from looking. Numerous dead bodies were scattered around the throne.

Zombies, beasts, bears, even one of those ice wolves' that was passed over, all their dead bodies were on their ground with frozen blood. With a slightly tired expression on his face, a stoic man with blue hair and piercing eyes sat. In front of him, a half kneeling wolf.

In his hand was a staff 2 meters tall, with a large glowing crystal at the top. The crystal was as well blue, to match his hair. His clothing was made of furs. Mainly bear and wolf furs to be exact. He relaxed as a small drop of blood flowed from his side.

It looked like he was dying. Tapping the staff on the ground he worded something that couldn't be heard and frost appeared in his free hand. Moving it to his side, the injury he had sustained was frozen over. His face didn't change from the pain and instead became even colder.

The wolf in front of him that didn't shiver in the cold wind, shivered as it kneeled in front of him. It was scared of the person in front of it. The man didn't say anything as he tapped the ground again.

Before the wolf could react an ice pillar shot from the ground and impaled the wolf.

*Whimper*

The wolf let out one last sound as its body jerked and then stood still. Its blood frozen before it could even leave its body.

The man tapped his staff one more time and stood up. The throne behind him shattered like glass and fell to the ground.

He turned his back on the dead creature and made his way to the north. He didn't look back at the pitiful thing and left it standing there, its body impaled. Time sped up and a blizzard covered the area. All the signs of battle disappeared or were frozen over. Only the half buried corpse of the wolf was left to show something had happened.

But the trailer didn't end there, time continued to fast forwards and a person slowly made his way to the battle field. It was a European man in his 40's who was also covered in beast furs. He had a shield slung over his back and was using a spear as a walking stick.

It looked like he would walk past the scene without noticing anything. But he stopped when he saw the half buried corpse. Slowly making his way over, he kneeled and looked at the wolf. When he kneeled a small blade was shown strapped to his thigh.

He looked at the wolf and then looked around himself, as if he could see something. A big smile appeared on his face as he tilted his head. He was thinking about something. He nodded to himself once, before turning to the north where the other man had gone.

His smile got bigger as he stood back up and started to trudge his way in that direction. His speed was faster than before.

As his back got smaller and smaller into the frozen tundra, the screen started to fade to black.

****************

The comment section of the video was exploding with comments, Chloe who just finished watching the video couldn't keep up with it.

(Frozen King?)

(Heralds chosen Frozen King?)

(Black Fable's Frozen King?)

(That cold bastard?!)

(I dare you to say that again, he is beautiful!)

(+1)

(+2000)

(Damn groupies.)

(Wasn't he training for a tournament and had to stop gaming for a while?)

(Guess he went to beta test this!)

(Did you guys see that throne?)

(Yeah what about those wolves!)

(I hope I can tame one!)

(+1)

(+2)

(+50)

(That's animal abuse! The thing wasn't going to attack!)

(Shut up stupid.)

(It's a game!)

(It's a gigantic wolf in a game, what the hell.)

It just continued on and on. People talking about his looks, his career, how famous he was. Chloe nodded her head at some of the comments. She knew exactly who Winter King was.

He was a professional strategist for a gaming club, Black Fable, which just recently took time off. His team were in the grand final of the ******* cup. Even without him, they had dominated the competition and easily won. Each team member was said to be making more than 1 million credits per game.

He was a veteran that had been playing games for the last 10 years. He would always choose the mage class if it was a fantasy setting game, or play many strategic games. His personality was said to be cold and unapproachable. Not many people had met him in person, but the all attested to this fact.

Even though he was so cold, his fan base was large, having nearly 600 million people in it, mainly made up of females. He would receive a huge boost in popularity after this trailer. With him being a beta player, it was assured that the whole 'Black Fable' club would be playing AGAE.

Chloe turned off her TV and left. Just the video had put her on edge. He seemed really powerful. Though in the back of her head, she was thinking of Rose, who made multiple earth spikes to kill the elder.

She thought Rose would win in a fight between them. But his cold expression was something else. The mage class looked a lot more powerful than the warrior class she had picked.

Should she change it?

She moved off to her bedroom with many thoughts swirling in her head.

Chapter 105: Rogue

*Thud*

The body of the behemoth in front of me dropped dead, the impact from its weight causing the ground to shake. This was the 6th one we had run into. Like the Stalker the strength zombies had evolved.

I looked down at the 3 meter tall tank like body. Its skin was ridiculously tough. I thought back about its status.

Name: N/A

Race: Zombie Crusher

Sex: N/A

Age: 0

Level: 15

Attributes:

STR: 75

END: 92

INT: 13

AGI: 45

SPR: 10

Skills:

Infection (Innate) LV(Special Conditions) - User is infected with a virus that promotes growth and strength depending on the strain of the virus. Can infect others with virus strain. ??? . ??? .

Crush(Innate) LV (1-10) – User is adapt at crushing things. Whatever they grasp can be crushed.

Iron Skin(Innate) LV (Special Conditions) – users skin is as tough as iron. +10 END

The name crusher aptly fit it. Its hands were gigantic and looked like it could crush anything. It was still dumb and slow moving. But like the stalker, I had a relatively easy time killing it. I had no trouble killing them. I had faced the first stalker an hour ago. I thought it might be a tough fight; I could never discount how tough a zombie could be.

However when me and Ella had pressed our aura onto them they turned docile. And I mean docile. They would stand still; some of the weaker ones would even tremble. It might have been the first time I realized how over powered the 'Empress', and 'Emperor' Skill are.

Of course, because of this I didn't have to worry about running into any zombies right now. Because we were at such a higher level than them, we had no worries locking them down. Then it was as simple as slashing their heads off.

Ella was particularly happy.

"Finally they learn their place."

I think I heard those dangerous words coming from her after it happened the second time. I could feel her over flowing happiness. Too bad we were restricted with the exp gain and could only store it. I knew it might be a good idea to clear out a lot of zombies, to stock pile the exp, but I wanted to get to the city.

We could massacre the zombies after Ella evolved. Wouldn't make a difference either way. We made good time as we continued to close in on the city centre. We didn't hide anymore and killed any zombies in our path. I did however make sure they were weak with my 'analyze' skill before fully committing to the attack.

Rose didn't have much to do while we were clearing out the zombies and only used some earth spikes when necessary. Even after all the fighting, because we only used our aura, it wasn't taxing mentally. We could have kept this up for half a day and still been fine.

We decided to rest after killing another group of zombies. I was looking for a good place to rest, when my eyes flickered. They focused to my right and stared at the air. I tilted my head and wondered why my eyes went there.

Something in my head was making them shift in that direction. Ella who was next to me suddenly sniffed the air. She looked around with a curious expression on her face. I turned to look at her.

"What is it?"

Was something going on here?

Ella was also curious; she kept sniffing the air and looking around.

"I don't know, it smells like…"

My danger perception started to go off, my body tensed as I raised my awareness.

"….like a human meal."

My brain raced a mile a minute as I registered the words. Ella had a nose that could track down elves in the forest. I had no doubt that after eating so many humans; she would be able to tell what we smell like. And she was saying there was one close or around us!

I thought back to the city centre and its stone steel. There were a multitude of classes that a person could become to kill zombies. This world had basically become a game after that god screwed with us. And what did every game have.

A Rogue!

My mind screamed the answer as my danger perception heightened and I felt it roaring to look out behind me.

I turned as quick as I could, but it wasn't quick enough. 2 daggers appeared out of nowhere, as they plunged towards my back. I twisted slightly to get out of the way, but one of them still fully went through my shoulder. The blade was only a few inches long and I felt the pain instantly.

The rogue wasn't expecting me to react so fast and was stunned that they didn't get me in the first shot.

Though he was a stupid person for attack a group of 3.

I didn't have to do anything, while I scrambled to make distance. Ella roared at him and her aura gushed out. The temperature in the area climbed in seconds and fire appeared. His eyes showed terror as his body was locked. He didn't have a high level so he was exactly like the zombies, completely immobilized by the pressure.

Ella was about to come forwards but Rose was faster.

*Pak*

3 Earth spikes rose from the ground and impale the poor fellow in his groin, heart and then head. It all happened in a matter of seconds. Nothing could have saved him once he made his move. I have no clue why he would aim for me either.

*Pak*

The spikes went back down and the dead corpse fell to the ground. Both Rose and Ella rushed to me with the dagger still stuck in my shoulder. The blade made it half way through before it was stopped. My endurance stopped it from going deeper.

I was disoriented for the whole fight, but as they made their way over the pain started to subside. The dagger was still in my shoulder but the pain was going away.

With unnatural calmness I reached up and pulled it out. I felt a bit more pain and clenched my teeth but nothing else. A small bit of blood was on the end of the dagger.

This wasn't right.

Every fight up till now such an injury would produce a lot more blood. The pain would be worse and I would be sweating. Rose casted 'Nature Heal' on me and the wound soon closed, but I didn't notice, I just looked at the blood on the dagger.

I had felt something was different after that god spoke the other day. Had my body really changed? Could it take more damage before dying? Would a blade right through my stomach be the same? Would it be harder to kill normal people now?

"I'm fine."

I said that to make Ella and Rose calm down.

I threw the dagger to the ground as I looked at the dead body. I didn't care that he died. He had attacked me first and wanted to take my life. I went over and picked up his globe. Crushing it, I got some entertainment points and exp.

I also got to see his name, but I didn't spare it a glance. I didn't want to know who this person was. I gripped my fists as I stood up. I think I was starting to understand what that god had done to my body. But that could be found out later.

The real problem was he had changed it and I hadn't known! What type of power level would I have to reach to finally kill that bastard?
