Chapter 167: Plan B...
The green mist was spreading fast and didn't let me get near them.
As far as I knew the mist should be poison at least, it should be if this is the same guy that Dante told us. Should I take the risk? Is it strong enough to bypass the poison resistance or stronger than my detox?
With detox, poison resistance and enhanced endurance I should be able to handle it. Also, I can hold my breath for a while to avoid it from coming into my lungs, but what if the mist is not poisonous and this is someone else?
After I passed next to the alligator-man, I had to move to the side as if I was going to flank the other two, that would leave some space for Milo to shoot. It's not a real flank since they know that I'm going, but I still think this was the right approach.
My body felt heavier because of the gravity increase, from the way I'm moving I think this should be about half the speed I usually run. As long as I use slow I'm still faster than them, when I use time bubble, they should be a little quicker, but because of my base stats, we were in about the same standing.
I couldn't be more wrong about it. The nose-less guy suddenly moved towards me, I didn't see him move before, so I had no way to know how fast it was, but I noticed something weird on his aura, and from his movements, I understood what it was… he was lighter.
Just as I'm able to not affect people with Time Bubble, they also can do that… but besides that, he can also change the gravity, so their bodies are lighter, inside this area, the gravity change was at the same time a buff for themselves and a debuff for us. Luckily the area is not that big, but it's still bigger than my Time Bubble.
I jumped into the mist to intercept him just to find that it wasn't poisonous. As soon as the fog touched my skin, it started to corrode it.
In the end, the snake looking guy either had more powers, or it was someone different and just looked alike. He tried to spit at me when I left but I managed to withdraw, and with the help of throwing daggers I managed to disengage.
I had to move back, now that I know about its effects, I had some parts of my body burned by the acid, it was painful, but I was able to bear it thanks to pain resistance. The time of my hand and the other parts burned by the acid went backward and recovered from the acid burn as if it never happened. I turned on my enhanced smell, if I had it at the beginning, I would have noticed the particular pungent and unpleasant smell of it and know that it wasn't poison.
In the meantime we were on a standstill, I can't touch them, but as long as I don't get near them, they can't do anything to me either. Unlike what I thought the snake guy went back and didn't follow me, I think that he doesn't want to fight head on and doesn't have the ability to throw more acid for now.
Hayley was winning the battle against the stove guy, Unfortunately after the alligator and Mark engaged on battle… Mark was being overpowered and pushed back with every strike.
"Milo, the alligator!"
The bullets that Milo was able to shot either missed the target at the beginning or were corroded by the acid mist later making them ineffective. He only managed to make light wounds on them, and there was no use in keeping this going. The best way to act now was sending him to help against the alligator.
Their group advanced slowly towards us, and we were forced to go back because of the acid mist. I could only see as Chamber's corpse was left laying there and getting farther away.
As I moved trying to think of a way to kill someone fast, a sweet voice sounded on my head. Rose was using Dante's ability to talk to me about what she knows from her pets.
'Yaxley and Ramsey are going in your direction… they are with some of their guards too.'
'Time?'
'About 3 minutes for Ramsey, and 5 for Yaxley, they are moving fast, some of their detectors noticed that something was going on there.'
'Thank you, I'll try to leave soon.'
I had no way to tell the others about it in detail, so all I can do it's start attacking. Thanks to Rose previous scouting I was quite familiar with the area, so I tried to trace the route that we were doing…
I moved back to a place where I could talk to Milo.
"Milo, in two minutes all of you withdraw and run to the sewers, I have a plan."
Milo nodded as he continued looking for a weak spot to kill the alligator, That battle turned a little better, the alligator now had it a lot more difficult fighting two people and wasn't able to overpower them as before.
After that without going too far I moved to surround the nose-less and the gravity guy, I threw a couple of accelerated daggers, as the knives move faster, the acid has less time to corrode them. I was able to hit one of them, the others were dodged, it was difficult to aim too well when you have to take in consideration the corrosion from the acid, the time infusion and the increase in gravity from a certain point. I could still see the other battles and affect them with my Slow ability.
The mist was almost entirely dispersed by now, I don't know if he has a cooldown for it, but he didn't throw it at me again, I hope he can do it or my plan it's not going to work.
1 minute left… if what I think it's correct this will work fine.
The movements of the stove-guy were weird, he wasn't entirely focused on the fight with Hayley as if he was waiting for something. This just encouraged me to believe that what I thought was correct.
I surrounded them to get behind, it wasn't a sneak attack but a way for them to stop pushing us and to get near the body of Chambers which was of no interest to them now that he was dead.
Without mist and with a knife on his tight it was the perfect moment to focus the gravity manipulator, the snake guy knew this too, so he ran to engage on the battle again. I ran toward the corpse and dropped two spherical silver bags with a diameter of about 13cm each.
The snake guy had a knife and tried to attack me. I moved around the battlefield dropping more of the spherical objects. I didn't let him just being on the offensive. I counter attacked but he was slippery, I hit him twice, but he always manages to avoid it and transform every deadly blow in a light wound. I could say the same for myself, only light injuries appeared on my body, and time healing took care of them, this new ability that I have to trade blows head on was right for this situation.
30 seconds…
In the meantime, I managed to disperse and drop around 20 silver spheres in the field. About six of the where near Chambers. The gravity guy took the knife that hit before and was able to make a quick bandage to prevent the bleeding, as I thought he was smarter than the others. Still, he looked with suspicion at the silver bags without a clue of what they were for.
The Snake man moved back to his partner an threw the acid mist on my direction again.
0 seconds…
I ran away in the opposite direction and graved the dive knife from the corpse.
Milo gave the signal, and all of them ran away. Hayley was about to win her fight, she had managed to cover the legs of his enemy in frosting and was just a matter of time for her to win, but when Milo gave the signal to follow my plan, she had no option but to go with them.
I felt grateful for them believing in me, so I hope that I'm not wrong about this.
The mist spread out.
The stove guy now was free from Hayley's relentless attacks, none of them except the alligator tried to follow but my slow made it impossible for him to catch up and he gave up right away.
The moment that I expected came the next second when the stove guy ignited the mist, and everything blew up.
