Chapter 78: The Pit Part Eight

I'm so sick and tired of this place!!! Fig quickly jumps to my shoulder and hides in my stiff hair. I look down to see myself in nothing but my underwear and I grit my teeth. I won't even be able to die with decency... Screw it! My breathing slowly calms and I look around our new surroundings.

I realize then that I can hear something.. My eyebrows come together as I try making out the sound. My head snaps up and I freeze. Snakes... lots and lots of snakes were slithering around the ceiling and I feel fresh tears fall. When will it stop!? I don't stand because the ceiling is low so I slowly crawl backwards as quietly as possible.

I suddenly feel the ground under me crack and break away as Fig and I fall. We hit ice cold water and it takes everything in me not to suck in. I fight to swim back to the surface but find that something was pulling us down. I look down as see the water being sucked down a dark hole and I stop fighting to save what little air and strength I have left.

Fig holds onto my hair as we are tossed and turned through the water. I lose all sense of direction as we flow through what feels like a large tunnel. Just when I think I'm going to drown we're spat out into a large body of water. I swim to the surface sucking in as much air as possible. I look around to see that we are still underground and I curse.

I suddenly see the water moving and by the looks of it... it looks like something large and it was heading our way. I start swimming as quickly as I can racing for dry land and notice it gaining on us with great speed. I grit my teeth and swim like my life depended on it and it did.. I'm pretty sure my summer camp swim coach would be proud of my stroke. By the end.. I'm practically walking on water as I race out of the water tripping and falling in the process.

I stumble again and just give up on my legs as they have clearly given up on me... I start frantically crawling as fast as I can away from the water making sure I put as much space between us and whatever was in the water.. I learned my lesson the last time! I turn around to see the water bubble and ripple but whatever was in the water stayed in the water. It waits a moment or two before turning and swimming away. I want to scream but I don't know if it would alert anything else so I bite my lip and clench my fist. I'm going to kill Ryder...
