Chapter 56: Answers

I wake up to sunlight pouring through the large windows and smile when I feel Rune's strong arms around me. The smile disappears when my memories come flying back. I jerk back and sit up only to quickly realize I'm naked so I grab the blanket to cover up. I look back at Rune to see him watching me.

"What the hell Rune!?" He lifts an arm up and gentle touches my cheek. I knock his hand away in anger and say "What was that?" I reach up and touch the spot he bit and look to find the mark still there. He sighs and says "It's called a soul mark or a soul bond.. I lost control yesterday, I'm sorry for the way I went about doing it but I'm not sorry for doing it."

I probably resemble a fish at this moment but I truly don't know what to say to that and the intensity in his eyes has me at a loss for words. "What's a soul mark.. bond or whatever." I ask irritated. He sits up giving me a full view of his delectable chest muscles and I fight to stay mad.

"It means that we belong to each other... in this life time and in the next. You are the one I love Syn and the only one I'll love for eternity." He declares and I find my heart in my throat. Somehow I can feel in my heart that he speaks the truth.. why would he go so far?

I deflate and rub my temples careful not to let the blanket fall. "I see the way he looks at you Syn.. hell I can smell his desire for you and when you lay next to me in this bed I can smell him on you and it... I couldn't control myself." He says almost growling again.

He can smell all that!? What is with the fae and smelling things... I sigh and think about what Rune said about Leon's desire for me and frown. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't noticed anything but I never acknowledged it and I won't act on it. Leon is.. was my boss and the most we'll be is friends.

Am I mad at Rune? Yes? Maybe? I don't know. I know things are different here. Males here in the fae world "claim" their women as a way to keep other males away but what Rune has done has even gone past that.

I look back to Rune to find him looking at me with a look that makes my heart clench. The fae is practically wearing his heart on his sleeve and I can't deny his sincerity. Sighing I say "I'm still angry and if you do anything like this again so help me..." His eyes, smile and everything about him lights up as he pulls me to him showering me in kisses and even if I don't want to I can't help but giggle.
