Once back Fig and I made ourselves at home in "our room" and didn't waste time running to the garden to greet the fairies and gnomes they have been missing since they left. When they had been practicing in the garden day after day they became close with everyone here. We were welcomed back with cheers and seeds. Seeds were precious to them so it was a grand gesture that brought warmth to my heart.
After spending a few hours when the fairies and gnomes Rune found us. "I take it you've settled in?" He asked as all the little fairies flew away. They didn't necessarily dislike Rune but they knew to keep a distance from the dark Fae. I grin and say "Yes, thank you again. I want to ask if you're willing to teach me how to fight?" His dark eye brows lifted as he said "You don't need to fight love, I will keep you and Fig safe. I will protect you and everyone you care about."
I give him a small smile before saying "I really appreciate that but I need to be able to protect myself. What happens when you or your men aren't around? Am I supposed to follow you everywhere you go for the rest of my life?" His dark eye brows come together before saying "Yes, You can follow me and stay with me the rest of our lives."
It was my turn to frown. I tilted my head sideways causing my multicolored hair to fan out. "I'm not going to follow you around all the time Rune. I still plan on living my life and hopefully after a few years I'll be strong enough to support and protect myself. This isn't permanent." Rune visibly stiffened hearing my words and my brows practically become one.
I think we were misunderstanding this whole thing. He meant one thing and I thought another. I can see Rune working his strong jaw staring at me with a determined look. I decided to give him a minute to work through it. I wasn't backing down with this. I can't rely on him for everything even if it was tempting. He searched my eyes and I'm guessing he saw what he needed to and he sighed.
"Fine but until I think you're strong enough you aren't going to leave, deal?" His dark golden eyes search my multicolored ones as I smile in victory. "Deal!" he gives me a dark smile that makes my heart skip a beat. Why was he smiling like that? I replay the last few sentences in my head but I didn't find anything. My smile becomes stiff as I try and figure out why I suddenly feel like I've made a mistake.
Fig on my shoulder shook his little head. Did she really not realize what just happened? He totally played her and she actually agreed! He couldn't take anymore and jumped off her shoulder saying "I think the water sprits are calling my name..." I can feel her watching me but I didn't stop or turn to look at her. Sorry Syn, He's just to scary so you're on your own with that monster. His small guilt was quickly forgotten when the small fairies came over to play.
