Chapter 28: A Desperate Gamble.

Angela is panicked before reaching Lenara and it only gets worse as she gets close. Lenara's body lies motionless on the floor, blood seeping from her wounds and her legs broken like toothpicks. She was mortally wounded.

Angela checks her breathing; she was alive... for now. The medicinal skills Angela have are no where near close enough to fix wounds this catastrophic; she has no idea what to do. A thought floats through her mind and she grabs it with all her might. It was risky but she had to do something.

Pulling out the magika arcanus Angela quickly flips to the dictionary at the back and copies out some of the runes: life (lâphe), healing (ēlig) and human(cøgnis). These are all high level runes that Angela shouldn't be using yet but she no longer cares at this point. The three in conjunction are used to create a golem; Angela hopes that they will work in a different pattern to create a new body for Lenara.

Angela would have to inscribe three new, advanced runes perfectly and also be lucky enough to stumble upon the correct combination first try. There was also the hardest part... she would have to inscribe the runes directly onto Lenara's body, while she was still conscious.

Taking a moment to steady her shaking hands Angela takes her quill out of a makeshift bag and prepares herself.

"I'm sorry, this is going to hurt."

With her hands now steady, Angela makes the first stroke, Lenara screaming in pain. Angela forces herself to ignore the screams and enters a prajna state, making stroke after stroke with focused dedication. Only after completing her work did Angela realise that Lenara had passed out from the pain, though she was still breathing.

Holding her breath, Angela activates the rune. It seems like whatever being was watching them finally decided to give some leeway as Lenara rises up into the air, shrouded in a golden light. At this point a searing pain spreads through Angela's head, blinding her.

"Do not try this again, I will overlook it this time and fix your mistakes." A mysterious voice sounds out in her head, warning her of the grave consequences were she ever to try inscribing runes onto a living being again.

By the time the pain in Angela's head had cleared Lenara's healing had completed. The Lenara that exited the light is barely recognisable compared to the Lenara that entered. Gone was the ant body, instead replaced by a pair of long, slender legs; human legs. Her hair had changed too, becoming a similar colour to Angela's. Turning her gaze downwards Angela blushes and averts her gaze; the chitin covering her chest was gone as well, replaced with two generous 'mountains'.

Angela's mouth opens and closes but no words come out, her speech taken from her by shock. Her aim had just been to heal Lenara, not to do... well, this. Lenara seems just as perturbed as Angela, even having difficulty acclimatising to her new body, stumbling as she tries to walk.

Eventually she makes her way over to Angela before kneeling down. Angela opens her mouth to speak but freezes as she suddenly finds her mouth occupied by Lenara's. With a rare show of embarrassment, Lenara blushes and quickly pushes herself up. A short "Thank you" pops out of her mouth before she runs away; leaving a bewildered and flustered Angela behind.

With Lenara 'overheated' it was up to Angela to explore the Island. She doesn't like how close this latest island was as they almost failed, despite being far more prepared than before. The voice that warned her is something else that Angela wants to investigate; she presumes it is the same person that is creating the island.

Her to do list was quickly spiralling out of control, tasks being added faster than she can complete them. For now she rearanges them to focus on the more essential ones first, putting non-essential tasks on the backburner.

For now, the island. At this point the term island seemed a bit lacking but since that is what the system calls them its what she will go by. The base of the mountain is still fairly flat and stretches on for almost 100 meters in each direction, there is very little plant life and barely any water. Angela does a quick lap around it and makes a note of 3 different cave entrances, though she could not see where they led.

With no options except the cave system, Angela picks one of the entrances and flies in. The inside was pitch black but one of the runes Angela had crafted while trying to make the 'blast rune' was quite an effective light, being made out of the fire (ēmbre) rune it gives off a decent amount of light while lacking the heat emmision a normal flame has.

Branch after branch Angela goes through tunnels, following the right wall so as to not lose her way. After who knows how many turns Angela hears a faint light accompanied by the sound of metal striking metal. Turning the corner she sees a bizzare little man hammering away at a piece of metal.
