"Hah… I have been walking and jogging for over an hour and everything looks the same. How the hell am I supposed to get out of this place? I still feel nauseous and my body feels strange. Not sure what is wrong with me, was I really drugged?"
Peter patted his body in a few places, but couldn't find anything wrong at least visibly. If there was something wrong with him, it was inside his body. He had never done drugs before or been drugged so it wasn't as if he knew the feeling. However, he couldn't shake off the nauseousness that would occasionally rise up. He had even thrown up a couple of times. Thankfully, even though his body was in pain and he didn't feel so great, he could still walk. He hadn't yet grown tired or felt too weak to move.
"I am not exactly in the best shape, but it doesn't seem like I am having any issues keeping up the pace. I've been speed walking and jogging for a while now without even feeling any fatigue. What is going on with me?"
It was difficult to maneuver in the forest, especially with such little light, and he had tripped a few times but he didn't want to slow his pace. He was getting nervous and he didn't know what was in this forest. What if he was attacked by a wild animal? Of course, on the other hand, rushing might end up causing him to injure himself.
"Guess I should slow down a bit and try to get my bearings."
Peter looked around as best he could, but no matter what direction he turned, it was all the same. Just trees and more trees.
"How am I going to get out of this place? Am I going to die all alone without anyone knowing what has happened to me? I heard a few stories of people who got lost in forests and died after several days. There are also the stories of people found alive after getting lost in a forest, but no one even knows I am missing. I live alone and have only a few close friends. Someone at work might check up on me, but that could take a couple of days before they think something is up and call the police."
Peter walked towards a particularly large tree and ran his hand across the bark, feeling the rough surface. He had a sudden strange sensation, as if he could feel the life force of the tree within or at least some type of energy which was present within it. Suddenly, it felt like some of that energy entered his hand but he wasn't sure if it was just his imagination.
After staring at his hand for a bit he shook his head, "must be my imagination."
It was at that moment he heard a crashing sound somewhere in the distance.
"Is there someone else here?"
Peter immediately grew excited and started jogging in that direction, but stopped.
"What if it is a wild animal or something dangerous?" He wondered aloud before more carefully approaching the sound.
As he got closer, the sounds grew much louder and he could hear the sound of metal banging against something and the occasional sound of something smashing against the ground. There were other sounds he didn't recognize, but he soon realized that there was someone struggling just ahead.
Sneaking behind some foliage and trees, Peter carefully observed an open area where there was definitely someone jumping around while swinging something at some wild animals. Or at least, they appeared to be wild animals. It was difficult to see what exactly was going on or the features of the person. He couldn't even tell if it was a man or a woman, it was too dark and the person's head was covered.
"Is that person swinging a sword? It can't be. Who the hell would be fighting wild animals in the middle of a forest, is this an RPG!?"
He couldn't believe what he was seeing. Not only that, but whoever that person was, they were amazingly agile. He had never seen someone jump around like that while fighting off wild animals. He was beginning to doubt what he was seeing and was wondering if he was still dreaming. Of course, he knew that wasn't the case, but he couldn't wrap his mind around the sight in front of him.
"Are these things endless?" Peter mumbled to himself.
It seemed no matter how many the person swung away with their sword, they kept coming from all over. The most surprising thing was that each swing of the sword sent the animals flying instead of cutting or slicing them as Peter thought would happen. Was the sword blunt or did these things have skin of steel?
"Wait, did I walk on to a movie set or something? What is going on here…" He trailed off.
He was just too shocked for words. Thankfully, with all the noise and commotion from the fighting, it was simple enough for him to hide there without being found out. Just when Peter thought things couldn't get any weird, the sword seemed to slightly glow and it finally pierced one of the animals, definitely killing it. Peter practically fell backwards after seeing that.
"Is that a damn lightsaber? That's amazing! I can't believe this, it just can't be real."
He started looking around to see if there were any movie cameras around or something, anything to explain this strange scene in front of him. After several more minutes, all the animals were finally dead and the mysterious person who had been fighting was standing with a sword in hand and breathing deeply. He hadn't realized this, but as the animals died, a strange mist would leave their bodies. Strangely enough, this invisible mist like substance had all been drawn rapidly towards Peter, entering his body. Neither Peter nor the person fighting had seen this at all.
It was clear that the person was tired after fighting off so many animals. At this point, Peter didn't know what to do. What if he ruined the scene or something? Or if this wasn't a movie set, what if the person was a lunatic and tried to attack him? He was hesitating on whether he should say anything or continue to hide here. He had to admit though, what he had just seen was pretty damn amazing.
While hesitating, he noticed that the person suddenly whipped around and faced his direction. His heart leaped into his chest.
'Was I caught?' he immediately thought and grew anxious.
The shadowy figure started running in his direction and he fell backwards. Picking himself up, he was about to run, but when he turned something heavy hit his body and knocked him backwards. It almost knocked him unconscious and he could feel the heavy weight almost crushing his body. Somehow, he just barely held on.
He could feel whatever was on top of him clawing at him and he struggled to get the thing off, but it was too heavy. After a moment of struggling for his life, the heavy weight was knocked off of him and he drew a deep and ragged breath. He could hear a hissing sound coming from the animal and a strange voice yelling something. He couldn't make out the words, it was all gibberish.
He had barely survived that attack and was struggling to his feet while coughing. He could feel himself coughing up blood. Unable to take the pain, he finally couldn't remain conscious anymore and passed out.
The person who was clothed in shadows and wearing a hood stabbed down into the flesh of the animal and stabbed it straight through its heart, killing it. The sword that pierced the body of the animal was glowing. If one were close enough, they could make out reptilian scales on the body of the beast. Pulling the blade out of the corpse, the shadowy figure cleaned the blade off with a cloth and sheathed it once more. The person quickly searched for any more threats, but couldn't find any. After feeling certain there were no more creatures, the person finally moved to stand over Peter and carefully observed him.
The person bent down over Peter's body and checked his clothing and pockets for anything. Finding nothing, the person placed their hands over his body and they began to glow dimly. The light spread to Peter's body, but a strange dark flame ignited suddenly from Peter's body and pushed the person's hands back. The person fell backwards, surprised by the strange flame which the figure only caught a brief glimpse of. It was a flame that gave off no light or warmth. Instead, in that brief moment, the person felt as if it was a flame that devoured all things.
The person mumbled something which Peter would find incomprehensible and stood up once more. Seeing that Peter was now fine and breathing normally, albeit unconscious, the person moved to check the body of the creature that was dead. Cutting up the chest, the person rummaged around a bit looking for something. The person clicked their tongue in frustration and bewilderment at not having found whatever it was the person sought. Checking the other bodies, the person discovered the same strange phenomenon. Whatever the person expected to find by cutting into the bodies of the dead creatures was not there. After kicking one of them in frustration, the person once more walked back over to check on Peter and again mumbled something that Peter would have found incoherent.
The blade at the person's side was once more unsheathed and the person removed the hood that was hiding its features. Furry, inhuman like ears, popped out and became visible on the top of the person's head. The person was now visible and clearly a female. If Peter had seen her, he would have gaped in shock. This was not a Human at all, but a person very similar to a character straight out of one of Peter's light novels. It was a female with platinum fox ears and long, beautiful, platinum colored hair.
She had piercing green eyes that almost seemed to glow like emeralds in the sunlight, within the backdrop of the dark and foreboding forest. She held her blade over Peter, but in the end, her arms fell down to her side. She didn't take his life, but instead after several moments of hesitation, she once more sheathed her blade. She was not someone who could murder another in cold blood. The man before her was strange, garbed in exotic clothing that she had never seen before, and that flame that had ignited on his body was a cause for concern. There were too many strange things about this Human and the circumstances of finding him here of all places was also strange.
Of course to her, the most strange thing of all was that she had not found the Void Cores that she expected to find within the Kobolds she had slain. Also, that flame reminded her of something. It was very similar to the energy of the Void. The energy that fueled her magic and was the very life essence of the world.
