Chapter 9: Magic!
Magic on earth was nothing new but was indeed not know to everyone. Only a few closed group of people knew about it, and Lucifer's father was one of that person but he is a very prominent member in that secret society.
This group consists of a few members from all around the planet who are bound by a sacred contract which states that magic should be kept as a secret form everyone other that the members in that society and no new members can be brought into this society who are not a direct descendants of the existing members. It was stated but the fact was no one else in the world other than the members of the society and their blood descendants are able to manipulate mana to use magic.
This has always confused Lucifer he was not a direct or a indirect descendant of any member of this society as far as he knew but he was able to manipulate his mana and to such an extent that he reached High level at a very young age. This shocked his adopted father too. He once said, "Lucifer I don't know who your parents are but they must be a member of our society.", but how much ever he tried to find them he was not able to they were able to hide from the network of information of his adopted father this disappointed Lucifer a lot but the care and love shown by his adopted father moved him and he reciprocated his love and care and did everything to reach his expectations and ambitions.
For him 'Shi Hu' his adopted father was like a real father and nobody could replace him. He under his care grew up and learnt everything about magic something which he had to keep a secret until his grave and reveal to none. This was why he was not willing to reveal anything to anyone. That was why he wanted to avoid being here as much as possible at least not with his whole class following him around.
So to avoid this whole thing he just wanted to go back home as soon as possible for that he needed some knowledge and resources and that will now be arranged by the loyal 3rd prince.
Next day morning it was quiet calm and everyone had a good night sleep except for the two people who had to share a room without any other choice.
Lucifer and Catylnne were not able to sleep as good as the rest of their classmates. So they were looking a bit tired. They received a call through a screen like thing in their bedroom which was used to relay any important messages, it was a call for them to dress up in their workout outfit and reach the palace indoor ground where the training would take place.
So everyone was excited that they will be able to learn magic and immediately went to have breakfast and rushed to the ground. Everyone was there except for Lucifer and Catlynne.
They were unable to sleep properly at night so they were tired and this resulted in them being late. They hurriedly reached the ground and Lucifer was met with envious gazes of all the boys who all liked Catlynne but were rejected by her. Except for one boy who looked at Lucifer stunned and came over to him and asked, "Did you guys do something lewd yesterday? Lucifer I did not expect this from you.", and gave a disappointed look at Lucifer.
Lucifer immediately understood his meaning, "Henry can you please shut your mouth this was all caused by you in the first place."
"What!!! So you guys did spend an intimate night!"
"Dude how can you even think like that!"
"You guys look tired and love-worn…so…"
"It is not what you think we were just not able to sleep!" said angrily Lucifer.
"I know dude you don't have to get angry, I believe in you," and chuckled at Lucifer's angry face.
Henry already knew that his friend was not such a person but he wanted to tease him so the whole drama.
While Henry teased Lucifer, poor Catlynne was being teased by Arleen. Catlynne and Lucifer exchanged glances and communicated without any words they had only one thought, 'this pair of boy and girl live only to make our lives miserable,' and shook their heads inwardly.
Then a old man along with Rosaria came to the ground, "Good morning heroes we here with me is the court's magic instructor who developed many mages of reputed statuses from around the word and now is exclusively here to help you all with your magic basics."
Lucifer looked at the old man in front of them and was slightly curious, 'Hmm…he could be helpful…', and was examining him intently.
the poor old man who did not know he was being scrutinized by one of the students he is gonna train came to the front, "Good Morning heroes, I am 'Ernst Muri' and will be introducing to you the concept of magic."
Everyone were excited to know they are going to start their journey of magic.
"Magic all based upon one phenomenon which you all must have already observed in yourselves, An aura also called 'mana' by manipulating which we are able to perform different changes around us."
"Mana is a innate characteristics of a human body and cannot be altered using any otherworldly instruments or magical artifacts or even godly artifacts."
"The level of magic you can perform depends on the mana-capacity of your vessel."
"The type of magic you can perform are based on the mana-type of your respective mana."
"The damage you can produce by using your raw mana depends on the mana-strength."
"The above three are all innate characteristics of a human body and cannot be altered in any way possible.
"But there is one thing which overrules all the above uncontrollable factors and differentiates between a high level mage and a low level one that is mana-control and this is in our hands."
'Hmm…this guy knows his stuff.', thought Lucifer after listening to the whole speech by this old man.
"So to begin with your training we need to first test you in these respective fields with the help of these magic testing pillars.", and he introduced a huge rock like structure in the center of the arena.
"That magic tester is a ancient relic which only few exist in this world and here is one of them. It will test you in the fields of Mana-Capacity, Mana-Type, Mana-Strength and Mana-Control as of now."
'In a world where everything runs on magic why are there only few mana-testers it should be quiet common right,' thought Lucifer to himself.
"I would like each one of you to form a queue and this mana-tester will test one at a time," said Ernst and walked to the mana-tester to stand by it.
'Mana tester huh? Fine let's play with it for the time being, been a long time since I saw one anyways,' and quickly stood in the queue along with Henry, Arleen and Catylnne and waited for his turn to come at the end.
The mana-testing slowly started and one person went up and placed his hand on the stone. The stone glowed with a reddish hue quiet bright and the scale beside it rose to a 6 in it and there were 6 stars slowly floating in the air above the rock ad below which were words poor mana-control.
Then the old man said, "Mana-capacity: 6000; Mana-type: Fire; Mana-strength: 6000 and mana-control poor."
The stats were not great but it already a shock to every one in this world cause in this world the top most Arch-mage had a Mana-Capacity: 5000 and Mana-Strength: 4000-5000 and getting a 6000 was already a great feat.
After knowing he was considered above the Arch-mages of this world he happily left the stage for the next one and the test continued some people had a 8000 capacity and strength at the upper limit and many attributes such as Fire, Water, Earth, Air, Lightning, Light and so on only one per person and not more having dual attribute was indeed a rare phenomenon.
Slowly the test was being conducted one after one placed their hands and left finally it was turn for the four of them.
