Chapter 188: The Tenebrous Sanctum (part 5)

Rahz looked around for the Bonemire Scaleborns the guard was talking about but couldn't find them.

"Us?"

"Of course you! Do you see other Bonemire Scaleborns around. on top of ugly, stupid...Spit"

Rahz moved forward and without saying anything at all pulled out his knife and swung it hard towards the guard attempting to severe his head at the neck line. He wanted to finish the fight as quickly as possible to prevent the guard from calling for help.

The guard was caught off guard but his experience kick in and using his pair of wings, he covered his body like a cocoon.

Chink!!

The blade in Rahz hands was chipped immediately as it bounce of the wings; however, Riddick was ready to take action and stabbed the Scaleborn Guard through the abdomen as easy as putting meat on a skewer.

"HOOOAH"

The guard grunted and knew he was not going to make, the only thing left for him to do was to inform the others about the intruders.

The pain coming from the wound inflicted by Riddick was limiting his ability to think but he still manage to grab a hold of a little horn he had hanging on the side of his waist and moved it towards his mouth.

Rahz opened his eyes wide and before he could say anything, Bato appeared on the guards back and using the Pearls of Enlightenment as a beaded rope he grabbed them around the Scaleborn's neck and pulled hard.

The Guard immediately grab the pearls around his neck and struggle for a little bit until his neck was broken and he lay dead on the floor.

"What a messy kill guys, if we want to clear this mission we got to do a better job" said Jazz standing at the side.

"It should be better now though, I got new weapons"

The weapons hanging around the guard's waist were a pair of black 1 handed axes that suit Rahz taste. The Axes were really heavy despite being 1 handed and he looked like a Titan holding on to both of them.

The Scaleborns were beings that range from 10 ft all the way to 20 ft and if there was something the dragon blood running through their bodies granted them was strength. The axes were made of a Black Onyx that was comparable to the fourth tier metal of the alliance, Adamantium, so they were extremely sharp and never dulled.

The corpse of the Scaleborn was placed inside the cube and the team proceed to climb a few trees to get a better feel of the lay out of the Sanctum Ruins. The pyramid that constituted the inner Sanctum was clearly visible in all its glory and right by the entrance stood a statue of a western style dragon and 5 beings on their knees paying their respects.

The front of the temple was an open area with naturally forming stones that gave it a very ancient civilization type of feeling, but the area to the back of the temple was enclosed by mountains. The river the team followed upward was actually coming from the top of the temple and then flowed downward through the left and right of the pyramid and was then route forward.

There were quite a few guards patrolling the place, but the closer to the cliff they were, the fewer the amount of people that could be seen.

The team also noticed that there was another Race that look amphibian in nature and they had pickaxes and were carrying pieces of metals into the Sanctum none stop. The moment they stop working, there was a guard always ready to let them know that it was not ok to rest and hit them with gusto.

"We need to clear the outside patrols and then we need to create some chaos so that we can get to the captain. There are 3 days left so I think we have enough time to finish" said Bato.

"How about we release some of the Prisoners? If I was one, I would want those bastards with the whip to know the wrath of an oppressed man".

Rahz's eyes lit up after Jazz comment and he was extremely excited, the only problem was that once they got started, there was no stopping midway since the guards were bound to smell that something was wrong.

"Let's just rest for a couple of hours and see if there is a change of guard"

The hours passed really fast and they were not uneventful, a few other sentinels came to check up on the guard that neglected to show up on time to be relieved of his duties and they carried the same fate as their comrade.

Rahz's new axes were really powerful and the situation that happened before did not happen again. The shear weight of the axes produced a powerful swing that either broke the bones that made up the wings or directly cut through them. After the second group of sentinels came to check on the problem and died in an ambush, the team left to start their assault. It was fate that guided them to leave the area and save them from having to confront a Scaleborn team of 5 members including a healer and a couple of mages.

The plan was simple, they were going to attack the right side of the temple and start releasing the slaves that were mining ores. Under the commotion, Rahz and the others could make their way to captain Halar for the kill before completing the mission.

The drums of war resounded as the team move through the trees and into the mountainous region that only had a guard for every 500 slaves. The Scaleborns had never been attack or rebelled against due to the prestige of Lord Venekius so they were caught unprepared.

The one leading the charge this time was Rahz and beside him was Riddick. The earth tremble under Riddick's weight but the guard attribute the little earthquake to something the miners were doing and it didn't help him that there was a loud sound coming from the Pickaxes hitting the Ore.

Tink…Tink …Tink

The moment the guard made eye contact with the group his brain froze, there were four Bonemire Scaleborns running towards him and the killing intent in their eyes was clearly visible.

"What the Fuck" was what the Guard wanted to say but from his shadow a figured started to materialized and in his hands there were two axes. The figured was Rahz who swung the axes with full force, one towards the skull of the Guard and the other to his chest in sequence.

Crack!

The first axe connected and lodge itself deep inside the head but it wasn't until the second one stroke his chest that the Guard looked towards his side and with a face full of disbelief fell to the ground.

The success of the entire operation relied heavily on the way they managed their time so after killing the guard the team proceeded to release the first batch of prisoners. It was then that Rahz and the others encountered their first hurdle as the slaves refused to leave and continued to work like nothing had happened.

"What is going on?" Said Jazz

The slaves had been working the mines since they were young and any hope of escaping had been erased from their minds while for other it was actually a source of pride to be working so close to the Lord of the island and being able to absorb some of his energy.

It was a privilege even the beast guardian didn't enjoy.

The reason the slaves didn't cause a commotion was the fact that Rahz and the others looked like Scaleborns and the Law of the Jungle was the only law in the realm in the sky. Even replacing Lord Venekius was possible if they had the strength to defeat him.

"You there! Why aren't you escaping?" Asked Riddick.

The Frog humanoid being question looked at Riddick and tremble in his boots. He thought that he was being tested so that the others Scaleborns could have some fun at his expense before they killed him.

"Esteemed Guard, pl...please forgive me! I would never dare to betray Lord Venekius and escape, I would work harder so please...spare me... please"

Riddick frown and look at the others that only had bitterness in their faces, "What do we do now?"
