Rushing out of the tent, James saw the scene in front of him, the gate had opened and a group of soldiers were marching out of it. It seemed as if the Herewealth soldiers were sallying out.
"This doesn't look good." Edward said as he saw the situation in front of him.
As they had lost the most soldiers in the army, they were a prime target to get attacked. Moreover their side was rather demoralized.
"Soldiers! Get ready to receive them! Sent out orders to the troops to form lines! Sent out a messenger to the other armies to send help." Orders were being shouted out. The whole field started to become chaotic, as the Herewealth soldiers were making their way towards them.
As the soldiers were preparing themselves to receive the enemy army, an idea came into the mind of Edward. "Sent out a message to Francis! Tell him to assault the walls and enter the compound of the manor."
"Yes sir!" A soldier shouted as he quickly made his way to a horse.
The situation at the front did not look promising. The soldiers were unorganized and in a mess. The only thing that they could do was quickly round up some archers to shoot a volley out. Yet there was no major dent in the soldiers that were approaching quickly.
"Charge!" was heard from the opposite side. With that the soldiers of the Herewealth family rushed towards the unorganized lines of James' front. The soldiers crashed at each other soon after. However it looked more like a one was slaughter, as the defensive lines got easily broken down.
"Sent the cavalry to relief the burden!" Edward ordered.
On the other hand, James quickly took out his sword and rushed towards the fray, he could not sit idle and wait as his men were being slaughtered. Even though he did not know the majority of the people in the army, he felt responsible for them as their commanders. Moreover, some of the men over there followed him from Valencia. They were the ones that he personally trained.
Rage filling his eyes, James was rushing forward. "Don't falter! Fight back!" he started to shout towards the front.
Yet many of these shouts were to no prevail, as the shouts of pain and death was higher.
"Hold the line! Reinforcements will soon arrive!" James continued on shouting orders. He could not afford another major loss. He had to increase the morale of the soldiers.
Finally arriving at the front, James noticed that the soldiers of the Herewealth had pushed in rather deep. Sheathing his sword, he rushed over to the closest enemy. Using his speed, he quickly maneuvered around the enemy soldier, before plunging his sword deep into the enemy.
The soldiers were weaker than he had expected. Looking at the situation, it seemed as if the Herewealth soldiers were unbeatable. However the reality was that they had the luck of the surprise attack and were moving mainly on momentum.
Because of this, the majority of the Herewealth soldiers were halted when James clashed with them. Close behind James, several knights and more veteran soldiers followed. Because of this, they were able to hold off the enemy attack.
Finally being able to form a new defensive line, orders were being shouted again. "Regroup! Reinforce the defensive line!"
In between these shouts, swords clashed with each other as metal was ranging through the whole field. The one was slaughter was no more, as the defending soldiers were finally able to hold a resistance. However, the majority of the damaged was already done. The standing soldiers numbered less than what they had left.
"Retreat! Sound the retreat!" This time, shouts were heard from behind the attacking soldiers. It was clear that their primary goal was to inflict as much damage as possible.
Grinding his teeth, James rushed forward. He was not planning to let the soldiers escape. Rage was filled in his eyes, as he had lost the majority of his men. Rushing forward, James attacked the open backs of the soldiers that were retreating.
"Damn it! Stop that guy! He is cutting too much of our men down!" an order was given from the Herewealth lines.
Upon receiving these orders, a group of 20 soldiers turned around and started to form the rearguard, to protect the retreating soldiers.
Clashes continued to happen in the field. There was no formation left. Every soldier was fighting in the chaotic battlefield. Dodging the incoming swords, James used his mobility to dart between the incoming blades. Because of his experience with death in the city of Hermes, he was more confident in his powers. The soldiers that were holding him back were mainly soldiers that were hired as guards, and did not have proper experience.
As the swords clashed, a loud shout was heard from the opposite side of the Herewealth soldiers. A group of cavalry had arrived to attack them at the rear. Initially James thought that this was the soldiers that Edward had sent away in the beginning. However he soon realized that the one that was leading them was Warren. He had rushed over from the left flank to help out as reinforcements.
'We can turn this around!' James thought in excitement.
