Chapter 110: Home 2
The dinner with Yi Fei's parents went on smoothly.
It was a very relaxed dinner with Yi Fei chatted about her school and the things they were doing and how was her daily life in City L. Her parents took their turn to tell Yi Fei and Wu Chen about the things going on in their school.
There were a lot of terms and words he didn't understand, but after sometimes, Wu Chen seemed to get the hang of it. He didn't know that being a teacher would be so complicated.
Previously, while listening to his mother's recount on NaNa's well-being in City far away from them, all that Wu Chen understood would be, that teacher seemed to be a job that is easy and relaxed since the teachers didn't have to work on the weekend.
Listening to the three people talking about action research, approaches, classroom management and a few other things he couldn't quite comprehend, Wu Chen found a new respect for all teachers in the world.
Another thing would be the client. While Wu Chen dealt with people in the business that could be considered all adult, the three teachers in front of him had to deal with hundreds of rebellious teenagers every day. Wu Chen couldn't even deal with one, yet the people in front of him were able to survive while dealing with thousand every year. Wu Chen was amazed.
Although the dinner went smoothly, Wu Chen felt that Yi Fei's father was cautious with him. Yi Fei's mother looked at him with eyes full of admiration while the father, he looked as if he was ready to whack him off the moment he made a single mistake.
"Oh look at us being rude. Ah, Chen here couldn't relate at all. What are you doing for a living?" Yi Fei's mother saw that Wu Chen was quiet the whole dinner, so she attempted to bring him into the conversation.
"I am a businessman. I worked under my father" Wu Chen never liked to show off his privileged background, but it's not as if he tried to hide it as well. If people found out about his wealthy background, then it was okay, but he was not going to go around telling people how wealthy he was.
For the first time after meeting him, Yi Fei's father showed interest in Wu Chen. "Oh, really? What business?" The mean eyes that Yi Fei's father had previously turned into normal eyes.
"Real estate, but now my dad is testing the water in the hospitality industry" Wu Chen did not elaborate much because he was careful of his words choice. Not everyone can understand business so Wu Chen tried to speak as little as he could so as not to bore Yi Fei's parents unless they were asking more questions. Then Wu Chen would be happy to explain to them.
Yi Fei's mother had been staring at Wu Chen for quite some time now. She felt that Wu Chen looked familiar like she had seen him somewhere before.
"Ah Chen, you look familiar. Other than a businessman, are you a celebrity as well? You look familiar?" Yi Fei's mother tried hard to recall where she saw Wu Chen.
Wu Chen let out a soft laugh."I'm not a celebrity. I am just a commoner like everyone else."
The more Wu Chen talked, the more Yi Fei's father felt like Wu Chen was not bad after all. After almost an hour of conversation, the father had warmed up to Wu Chen. Now, they talked like they have known each other for a long time.
While the men were having a conversation, Yi Fei and her mother were doing their things in the kitchen. Her mother did the dishes, and Yi Fei cut some fruits for them to snack on later.
"Ah Fei, mom really likes your boyfriend. He is polite and humble" Her mother rambled while washing the dishes. "But is he not a celebrity for real? I'm pretty sure I saw him somewhere before. My students might have shown me his picture or something. He looks familiar" Yi Fei's mother still couldn't remember.
"He's not mom. Maybe you saw him in the magazine. Sometimes, Chen Chen will be interviewed by the business magazine." Yi Fei cut the oranges and put them nicely on a plate. "I am going to send this to dad and Chen Chen."
Yi Fei went to the living room where her dad and Wu Chen were sitting. She put the plate on the coffee table and started to walk away with a bowl, but her father called her name. "Ah Fei, where are you going? You should sit here and accompany Ah Chen."
Yi Fei turned her head. "I want to give this to Baby as a treat." Yi Fei showed them a bowl of kibble. Then she proceeded walking to the door.
Wu Chen and Yi Fei's father continued their conversation. They were chatting animatedly when suddenly; they heard Yi Fei's shouting voice.
"Hemo Hemo! Go back now. Don't go wandering around. It was already afternoon, and you have not eaten your lunch. Don't just think about your girlfriend. Think about your human too. Come back now. Hemo Hemo… Hemo Hemo…"
Yi Fei's father had to stop himself from facepalming himself. How could his daughter show this weird side of her in front of her boyfriend?
Wu Chen was dumbfounded. If he didn't know what Hemo Hemo is, he would think of Hemo Hemo as a person. Since he knew about Hemo Hemo being a cat, he was even more speechless. His girlfriend talked with cat like she was talking to a human? Is she a cat whisperer?
"Before you delve deeper into a relationship with my daughter, I want to confirm something." Yi Fei's father was looking at Wu Chen seriously.
Wu Chen had a sense of déjà vu about it. It couldn't be…
"Ah Chen, are you really okay with someone like that?" Yi Fei's father pointed towards the outside where Yi Fei's voice came from.
