Chapter 6: Hope
This morning I just sat still on the bed. Feeling lost with my current condition. Even if I now accepted the fact that I transmigrated and became a young boy, there's a nagging feeling that something is missing or something like that.
I sat blankly on my new bed until Roland suddenly appeared. And then asked me if I want to come with him to see a witch in the dungeon.
Of course I was a little confused with that invitation. What I remember was Roland will visit Anna, that witch, this morning with Barov and his knight Carter. But now he invited a young boy to come as well, why?
(Oh, it's because my existence make some difference here?) I thought in my mind before I nodded to him.
He then let the servant help me look for new clothes to wear. Well, there wasn't any clothes of my size so the servant just gave me some common child clothes. But for some reasons the servant looked nervous and anxious when he couldn't find any other good clothes, like he will die if he put ordinary clothes to me. (Why? It's not like Roland will be that mean you know. He will understand about it uncle, so please calm down!) I said in my mind.
After that I went to meet him out castle and just when we about to go to dungeon, Carter, Roland's Knight came and tried to stop us. But Roland didn't listen him and I myself felt this Knight was a bit annoying and too noisy.
After some sort of words war between them, we finally can advance to the dungeon.
When I saw Anna for the first time, I was a little envy and jealous of her. She's beautiful. Even if her appearance was kinda messy that didn't cover her beauty at all. Especially her eyes. Now I know why Roland would fall for her.
Yes, I know that after I saw how Roland look at Anna. At her pair of pale blue eyes that resembled a calm lake. How his eyes shine at her. I can feel my heart ached at this scene. They're like a match made in heaven and that hurt me so much.
(Is there really no hope for me?) I thought as heart beating painfully. My chest hurt so much because of this scene before my eyes.
Roland not just fall for Anna because she was the first witch he met but it was because she already capture him from the start and they are Soulmate.
I looked down and sigh with how cruel reality could become. My mood became gloomy as I feel my heart shatter to pieces.
After that Roland asked her name and other things.
"Can you clearly describe what happened when the mine collapsed?" Roland asked.
Anna nodded and began talking.
Roland was surprised because he expected her to stay silent or to angrily curse at him, but she responded to all of his questions cooperatively.
And just like in the novel, Anna told him her story and It wasn't a complicated story.
Anna was a strong and smart girl. How can I match her? Her kind nature unchanged even after all the unfair treatment she was under. Ho ho ho… such a holy white lotus mother* is an unmatched opponent, impossible to beat orz.
When Roland asked her how she was able to fight such a strong man, here the real show began. Anna said with her devil power, so Roland asked her to prove it, Carter and other shouted because of fright.
We then heard a crackling sound, the noise of water vapor expanding in heat. Our surroundings began to heat up rapidly, and the water on the ground was turning into steam.
We saw a blazing flame rose from beneath Anna's feet, and the ground she was standing on was set on fire. The torches behind them exploded at once, as if they had received pure oxygen, giving off a blinding light. At that moment, the whole cell was as bright as day, causing the onlookers' to let out terrified screams.
As the witch moved forward, the flames surrounding her moved with her. When she came to the edge of her cell, the iron bars that made up the wall became pillars of fire.
"She really does not fear fire," Roland thought.
Roland remembered the Assistant Minister's words. Only now did he really understand what he meant.
If she is an actual flame, how could she fear herself?
Soon, the iron bars turned from crimson to a light yellow and began to melt.
After what seemed like eternity, the flames disappeared.
All that was left were a couple torches quietly burning on the wall as if nothing had happened, but Anna's burned clothes, the hot air, and the twisted prison bars all proved that this wasn't an illusion.
Besides me, Roland and the Chief Knight, the other men had all collapsed to the ground, and the prison warden was so scared that he soiled his pants. Anna now stood naked outside the cell, and the shackles around her arms were gone. She did not hide her naked body, her hands hanging naturally at her side and her blue eyes appearing as peaceful as before.
"Now that I have satisfied your curiosity, my Lord," she said, "Can you kill me?"
"No." Roland stepped forward, wrapped his coat around her, and said with a forced gentle tone, "Miss Anna, I want to hire you."
….
Hearing his words and seeing his action towards Anna once again hit my broken heart. What a perfect gentleman. I want him to be nice and gentle towards me too. It felt as if I was left behind, standing alone and lonely, when he wrapped his coat around her and began to walk, forgetting all about me that was beside him.
My hand and heart both felt empty when he let go of his hand.
I tried to hide my sadness as walking quietly without a sound behind them.
(Is there still some hope for me?) I asked while looking at the sky. (Will it be different if I'm a girl too?) I thought.
But if I'm a girl I thought I will never win against Anna. Because she's such a loveable, perfect female lead.
At least… I wish I'm a witch (wizard) too. So I could have more time to stay with him.
"Sigh… it won't be easy for me. Really, a mission impossible.
