Chapter 18: Transferred
On the way back to the police station, Sam is asking me about how we going to report this case.
"Hey partner, what would you write in the report later?"
"The facts of course. We receive information about the next bombing target, go to the crime scene, do as procedures by evacuating civilians and call bomb squads"
"I mean the part when we caught the bomber"
"Well, with information from Macy, we can apprehend the culprit. That's what I will write in the report"
"Aren't you worried captain will scold you again?"
"Huh? You want me to write what? Making up something to make it more make sense? Sorry I can't"
"Yeah, you always like that. Don't say I'm not warning you thou"
When we arrive at the police station, I write the report on this bombing case according to the fact that we have been through today. Nothing is hidden just to make the report acceptable. And when I submit the report to the captain, just as Sam said, my captain after reading the report scolds me thoroughly.
"Seriously Rick, once twice I still can give you leeway. But this time is the third time you submit this report with this amnesiac paranormal girl who knows how to speak with spirit as a source of information. Do you think my superior will accept this?"
"But captain, the using of paranormal to solve criminal cases is not something uncommon. There are cases where police involving some paranormal to help their investigation"
"As I said, once twice is okay. But when we solve many cases with paranormal assistance, you know what the public will say? They will say the Police department is useless, they can't investigate properly, and if those paranormal failed to help to solve the case and dragging innocent people in that case, that will bring great damage for police department".
"I know sir, but what I've written in that report also really happen. We are the police that should uphold the law and justice, how can we uphold law and justice if we must write lies on our report?"
Captain Allan is massaging his forehead. I know he can't rebuke my words because what I'm said is true.
"Alright, I get it. But I must transfer you two from homicide section to public safety section to make you less contact with that paranormal girl. This is my final decision for your transfer, move your belonging to your new section"
"Right now sir? But we still have an unsolved case on that hotel Luxor"
"Yes, start today, this hour, this minute, this second. Your letter of transfer will be followed after that, you still in part of hotel Luxor investigation since no further development on that case"
"Yes, sir"
We left captain office with a little-dejected feeling. As a policeman, I know that transfer is a common thing in the police force, but the homicide section is my favorite. It has a certain pleasure to be able to solve some cases which involving the life of others. But what can I do? We're quickly packing our things from our desk and move to public safety section. After meeting with the officer in charge of public safety section, Sergeant William, we get our new desk and our new assignment.
The assignment that we receive is looking for a girl that goes missing from an orphanage. The boy who walks with the girl before missing said that she was taken into a van by some people in their way back to the orphanage after school is over. There's no demand or ransom request from the people who kidnapping the girl which make this case becomes a deadlock. The license plate on the van is fake which make no further investigation can be done on this missing girl.
