Chapter 274: Lightning Stomp

The battlefield had already changed beyond recognition. The red plains disappeared and only soil and dust remained. The sun struggled to keep the area illuminated, but the clashes of the Immortal Establishment cultivators helped clear the area due to the intense winds that resulted.

Leon was on the losing end of his fight. His opponent was a hard counter for him. Leon relied on his Body Strengthening to enhance his basic abilities, while his enemy was a one trick pony who relied on his speed. Leon was already full of cuts and injuries, as blood trickled all over his body, and his eyes started to lose focus due to the blood loss. The only things keeping him conscious were his memories.

Helplessness. The memories of his helplessness once No-bō revealed himself to be the teacher he had trusted and aimed to be like surged through his mind. The memories of the desperate actions he took in order to accelerate his cultivation and catch up to Ed and the others who had all disappeared in order to grow stronger. The memories of the time he spent with the one he loved…

Leon steeled his resolve, while at the same time he lowered his guard. He felt sweet relief, as it took him a great deal of power just to keep holding his hands up, protecting his vitals.

"Have you finally given up?" his opponent asked, but Leon was too weak to answer. He raised his head and rubbed his eye, all in order to get a good look at his opponent…in order to catch every motion.

Leon exhaled, and soon after, his enemy rushed in, a smile on his face. He thought about how he lucked out with such an enemy, a weak enemy. He was glad to see that his opponent was not moving. It meant that he would finish him off with a single attack. He didn't worry about what was coming next, as he had full faith in the sect master. The invincible sect master would surely decimate all the enemies. All he needed to do was to kill one of the strong ones and retreat.

With such thoughts in his heads, the young man accelerated to his maximum speed and stabbed towards Leon's heart. Yet, just one moment before contact, Leon undid his Body Strengthening, which had bulked up his body, and turned back to normal. Thus, the rapier, which should have pierced the heart, ended up going through the left shoulder instead.

The young found himself frozen with shock as he realized he was now open for any attack. His eyes moved slowly, searching for the position of Leon's sword. Beads of sweat rolling down his back.

But, soon he regained his smile.

Leon was incapable of moving. He was out of energy, he was too tired, he wanted to lay down and sleep. But, he didn't give in to the thoughts that plagued his mind. He was a head taller than his enemy, so he looked down on him; eyes full of determination. He knew that he couldn't kill his opponent, but at the very least, he wanted to make the battle easier for the ally that would come after him.

Leon grabbed the elbow of his enemy, and with the last bit of willpower he had, he tried to twist it off. But, it wouldn't budge.

"Ha…hahaha! Of course, you can't hurt me!" his enemy laughed, but his face was stricken with worry and fear. "With your weak body, you can't go through the defenses of my equipment!"

The young man pulled out his rapier from Leon's body, and this time aimed for his heart. There was no escape now; Leon was out of Qi.

Leon closed his eyes and submitted himself to death. He counted down the seconds left before the rapier pierced through his heart, this time killing him for sure. Yet, just as he thought 'zero', he heard the crackle of thunder and the sound of bones breaking.

Leon opened his eyes to see bright golden short hair buzzing in the air. A figure as tall as him towered over his enemy, as its fist lodged its self deep into the enemy's face.

"Griffin…" Leon muttered and he felt his knees buckle, yet before they could hit the ground, he felt a hand support him.

"Hang in there buddy," Griffin said. "Liz is on her way, she'll help you. You don't want to show her your disappointing side, right?"

Leon couldn't help but smile as he listened to his friend. He could feel a Qi coming their way that was all too familiar. Liz approached him, and without saying a word, carried him. His blood seeped into her clothes, turning her into a crimson maiden, carrying a battle-scarred knight. She retreated with Leon and sent one final look to Griffin, a look of gratitude. Her face was wet with tears.

"Why did you butt in?!" the young man stood up, clutching his swollen cheek. "I was about to finish him off, and that would have guaranteed me a grandmaster's position in the sect! After all, Most of them are already dead!"

"Why? Because I'm his friend," Griffin answered. "And it's too bad I was fighting some of the minions otherwise I would have fought you instead."

"Don't get cocky just because you got a lucky shot in," the young man stood up, his black eyes full of fury, and a tinge of fear that had stuck there from the moment he couldn't kill Leon.

He accelerated once again into full speed and disappeared from sight. It was as if he never existed before. Not even the sound of his clothes could be heard.

Griffin closed his eyes and exhaled. Then, as he took in a deep breath through his nose, he twisted his body and clad it in Golden lightning. He squeezed his fist hard against his palm and threw a punch right behind him. The crackle of thunder exploded as his fist made contact with something…his enemy.

"How did you find me?!" the young man said as he held his broken nose and looked bewildered.

"It's easy; I fought people faster and stronger than you. Plus, cowardly people tend to attack from the back," Griffin said as he stared at the young man. "I could tell you know. You chose Leon because you believed he was the easiest prey."

Griffin disappeared from the young man's sight, and before the latter could look around, he felt a major force collide with the back of his head, sending him into a spiral of confusion and pain.

"How does it feel, to fight someone stronger than you?"

The young man, once again, felt a great impact in his abdomen as he was struggling to stand up. The impact was powerful enough to lift him into the air.

He plummeted into the ground and struggled to turn and lay on his back. He was down to a tenth of his Qi, as it was consumed from trying to fend off against Griffin's lightning.

Griffin walked in a slow and rhythmic manner. The sound of his leather shoes tapping the ground seemed like a nightmare to the young man, who looked at him in fear.

Griffin stood on top of his enemy and looked down at him. Then, without warning, he stomped on his head, as a great lightning bolt descended from the sky. His enemy was dead.

Chapter 275: Battle of Generations

Ed and Johan crossed swords thousands if not millions of times since the beginning of the battle. A day had already passed by. Both of them sustained deep injuries, but none of them deep enough to decide the fight. Their bodies felt pain no longer, as they had turned rigid and tough due to the constant fighting. Their senses shut down all the unnecessary distractions around them, enabling them to focus on each other.

Johan charged forward for the umpteenth time, but it was different this time. The hand holding his double-edged silver sword was loose and almost powerless. As he swung down, Ed noticed the weakness and channeled his power in order to blow Johan away. Yet, at the moment of contact, Johan let go of the sword and took a step back.

Due to the extra power, Ed found himself unable to stop in time, which turned into him making a huge empty sword swing. Johan capitalized on this chance, grabbed Ed's hand and flipped him in the air, slamming him into the ground which crumbled like a soft cookie under the deep impact.

Before Ed could make a move, Johan dropped a punch towards his face, driving him deep into the ground. Ed stopped thinking and teleported away before the second punch could hit him. He felt a warm liquid droop down on his lips, and as he touched his face he realized that his nose was broken. Ed used his sleeve to wipe away the blood and cracked the broken bone back into the position. His Regeneration was enough to take care of the rest.

His foe held his sword once again and charged at Ed; his sword hand loose once more.

Johan was at Immortal Establishment level 10, same as his father and the top members of Blood sect. yet, out of the ones that fought Ed, he was the strongest one so far. Even Arthur, who was weaker than Ed, was fighting Dawlish at a standstill, and yet Ed was actually losing to Johan. He remembered the pressure that Johan exuded the first time they met in the tower. Then, he knew immediately that he was the weaker one. But now, he couldn't accept it, since he couldn't lose. Especially, since Erykytos was still waiting for them to beat.

Ed waited no more and activated his Ryūsui Seikūken. A bluish aura surrounded his body and mixed up with the golden aura that his Nen provided. Johan felt something wrong, but he didn't stop his charge.

Ryūsui Seikūken and the Mangekyo Sharingan, Ed's ultimate combo that he didn't get to use in a long due to the nature of the fights he encountered.

Johan and Ed's sword crossed, and the latter's slid away, as Johan reached once again to grab Ed. But, it didn't go as smoothly as last time. Ed's Ryūsui Seikūken was at the second level, which meant that he was able to combine his movements with the enemy's. Right as Johan's hand touched Ed, he found out that the hem of his leather shirt was being held as well.

Johan felt a great force pull him in as Ed threw his head back.

Johan's consciousness started to wobble around as he found himself on the ground with blood all over his face, hundreds of meters away from Ed. All it took was a single head butt to even the score. Johan stood up and popped his broken nose back into place. He didn't even bother to wipe the blood as he rushed at Ed.

The two continued to clash, even stronger than before. Their endless supply of energy seemed more and more bottomless to the bystanders, who couldn't believe their eyes. The two battles taking place next to each other, between Dawlish and Arthur, and Johan and Ed, stole the attention from all over the world. The residual Qi that resulted from the clashes traveled all over the world. The animals hid in fear, while the weaker monsters stood in place, petrified. The powerful people that didn't join the war imagined the battles that took place, but even their imaginations fell short from reality.

The entire world sat still on the three days that the battle took place for. All the people would forever remember the fear and anxiety they felt. They would all tell the tales of the Battle of Generations.

.

Arthur felt chills due to his drenched sweaty body getting hit by the morning's cold breeze. He failed to count how many times he would have died if not for the gear his son had crafted, and the accessories made solely for the sake of saving his life when all else would have failed. His Legendary grade saber worked harder than ever as it realized the pickle its master was in. Weapons made by Ed had a faint thread of consciousness that grew bigger the more attached the weapon became to the master.

Arthur's saber had pushed itself to the extreme, balancing the usage of Qi with the performance required, all in order to allow him to fight for the longest. However, such a thing resulted in it overworking itself. Once the battle was over, it would break and crumble no doubt. But, since the battle was not still going on, it held on.

Arthur continued to battle Dawlish, the two getting drenched by sweat and blood. Neither of them felt this much pressure, not since they trained with their parents, dozens of years ago. They used their trump cards over and over again in order to gain the upper hand but failed each time. Their bodies croaked and groaned while their spirits screamed in pain and agony. The healing potions they both had no longer worked as if their bodies developed immunity to them. They had overused them. They could only rely on their Qi to heal them in time.

The two of them rushed at each other, eyes squinted and muscles twice their normal size. They attacked each other with everything they had left and were blown away the same distance. Once more they clashed, and again they kept clashing. Before he knew it, Arthur had a deep cut across his left eye, which he could no longer use. Luckily for him, Dawlish had lost two fingers on his dominant hand, causing him to switch to the right hand.

The two stared at each other, their breaths heavy and uneven, and their bodies dull and rigid, unwilling to move. Yet, due to the explosion of auras at Erykytos' place, they moved subconsciously.

Dawlish was a second late, and Arthur couldn't let this chance go. He raised his saber high, as if he meant to cleave the sky in half, and swung down with all of his might. The weapon soared and sang as it split the air in half, until it blew open Dawlish's shoulder, and cut deep down until it found the heart.

Dawlish's mouth burst open due to the blood gushing out, but he didn't fall down. Arthur smiled and looked proud, even as he himself couldn't hold the blood back from rushing out of his mouth. Due to his blind side, he failed to take notice of Dawlish's sword coming from his left. He was too absorbed in the moment and couldn't feel his arm being severed, and his chest being torn apart by the great sword.

The two figures stood still, covered in their own blood, as the sun's rays shone down on them. Ed and Johan felt their heads move, against their wills, as they stared at their parents' bloodied, yet gallant figures.
