Chapter 220: Plan

The morning light shone on the walls of Avalon. In front of its doors, two large armies departed in two different directions. At the forefront of one army was Hayato, the prince of Ryuu kingdom. His mission was to conquer the Oni kingdom. Behind him were almost 40.000 soldiers, composed of his kingdom's people, as well as the slaves that remained from the last war. These slaves were sent to the kingdoms that joined Avalon in standing against Blood sect.

However, they were not being forced into slavery. Instead, they were bound by a contract of five years. In these five years, they were going to do the bidding of the kingdom that took them, after which they would be released.

On top of these soldiers, two sect Elders from Glory sect joined Hayato. These two being Griffin and Bard. The three highest cultivators of the army would be the central force that would strike the enemy first.

The other army had Ellie as its leader. It was only obvious as she knew the kingdom best, and would be able to come up with a suitable plan to bring it down. Similar to Hayato's army, the soldiers amounted to 40.000 with both Avalon soldiers and slaves. Two Elders joined Ellie, Audun, and Becky, as well as Eric.

The march towards the two kingdoms was rather quiet. The galloping of the horses and the breathing of the soldiers was the only thing that was heard. They had a single mindset in their minds, to win. The soldiers had a high morale thanks to winning the last war, while the slaves didn't want to die before returning to their families.

They were all thinking about how this war would end much faster compared to the other one. The Oni and Beast kingdom both lost many soldiers due to allying with Blood sect. As such, they would be severely weakened and wouldn't be able to handle another war.

Both Ellie, as well as the leading figures of the army, summarized what the soldiers were thinking. Yet, they didn't say anything to remedy such flawed thinking. They simply allowed the soldiers to indulge in their naïve thinking. At least, until they reach their destination, they weren't going to say anything.

Night befell the land, and the soldiers went to rest. Some of them unable to sleep, as the terror of war, was deeply ingrained in their brains. Even though they believed they would win, the harsh images of mutilated bodies didn't leave their brains.

Inside a tent, four figures stood in front of a large map.

"The beast kingdom is comprised of five cities, with four of them surrounding the capital. The least guarded one of them is the southeastern one. In order to attack it, we will have to take a detour and walk all the way to the south, ignoring the north-eastern city, as well as the capital. But, I don't think such a large army will go unnoticed, so we might get spotted."

Ellie explained as showed those present all the information by map. All of them fell into deep silence as they thought. They knew that if they targeted the capital, they would get surrounded by the military of the four cities. But in case they take over a city secretly, they would have the element of surprise, as the other cities wouldn't be able to react before the capital is taken down. However, if they take too long to take over a city, their plan would be toast.

"I'm certain that the Beastmen are being extra vigilant. They know retribution is coming, as they chose to side with Blood sect. *Sigh* Where is Ed when you need him…" Eric remembered how Ed had left just the day before. He thought about how convenient his Space magic was.

"I suggest we head straight for the capital." Audun proposed the opposite of what they were trying to avoid.

"How come?" Ellie didn't want to agree nor deny his proposal. She was all ears now, as she couldn't decide on a plan on her own.

"If we target one of the cities, there is nothing that guarantees the reaction of the other ones. They could send people to investigate what happened, or they could send all of their militaries to the capital in order to protect it. In that case, we would have wasted time on a useless city." Audun explained as he was a veteran of war. His opinion weighed heavily in the matter.

"Judging by the map, the reinforcements would need at most one day to reach the capital. That gives us exactly that much time to take down the king."

Audun proposed an outrageous plan. The capital was surrounded by walls in every direction. The army would need to scale the walls, open the doors, and then take out the king. All in under a day.

"I see. Anyone else has a better a plan?" Ellie chose to listen to any other opinion before taking her decision. Seeing no one speaking she said, "Then we will go with this plan. Tell the soldiers that resting will have to wait until tomorrow. We're walking throughout the night!" Ellie took her decision while walking out of her tent and speaking to the guards there. They, in turn, went to let the army know.

The soldiers whose sleep was disturbed dared not to question why. They only gathered their stuff and started to walk in the direction of the Beastmen kingdom. After walking for the whole night, the reached a dense thicket by dawn, where Ellie decided to have a rest at.

"We will continue to walk during the night. Now, we can rest." Ellie told everyone before retreating back to her own tent to rest. As she was laying on the bed, she looked at her right fist, which she used to slug Ed in the face, as she smiled. She clenched her hand as a determined look appeared on her face.

The day passed by and the sun started setting. The group of soldiers stood up and started to walk in the direction of the capital. They were in the middle of the northern cities, a position Ellie chose due to the low watch over it. The army moved in total silence, and no light was used to show the way. People relied on their eyes to maneuver around.

"We fight at dawn, so make sure you are ready!" Ellie shouted as she raised the speed of her army. They needed to be as quick as they were quiet.

CREATORS' THOUGHTS
Shigun Shigun

Hello everyone! In the past chapter, some of you thought that Ellie was acting narcissistic, but that wasn't what I was trying to imply q.q

Ellie simply chose to take the win by quitting the fight, contrary to the last time they fought where she pursued Ed until he showed her the difference in their powers. I was trying to show how she had developed mentally, but I guess my writing is still subpar...

PS: the next couple of chapters will focus on Ellie, before returning to Ed.

Enjoy!

Chapter 221: Broken Wall

A few kilometers separated the royal capital of the Beastmen kingdom and Ellie's army. They hid in a forest, concealing themselves from the prying eyes of the guards. They wanted to strike while the capital was off-guard. Ellie, riding on her horse, looked at her army and started to speak to them.

"It is time for us to take down the Beastmen royal family. They have ruled over this kingdom, bringing down its people's dignity! Their rules exist only for themselves, and not for their people! I have always felt shame to be called a noble of their despicable kingdom, so, today, I ask of you to help me end their tyrannical reign!" Although Ellie delivered a speech, the soldiers didn't shout. They knew not to do such a stupid thing when they were trying to be hiding.

"I know that you are all tired from the journey to this place, but know that it was a necessary step." The soldiers had run all the way to the capital during one night. The only rest time they got was from the moment they arrived, a couple of hours past dawn, until noon.

"I'll take this chance to remind you that we are to fight in a war! This is a real war! In war, there is no such a thing as completely decimating your enemy! In war, both sides kill, and both sides are killed! Let me take this chance to remind you, that winning the Bloody war doesn't guarantee anything. So, entering the war with the mindset of winning from the start is foolish!!" The words of Ellie penetrated deep within the hearts of her soldiers. They hung their heads, reflecting upon their naïve ideas. They were indeed underestimating war.

"But, know that our target right now is the king and only the king. Once the king falls, the war is won. That is my target, and I plan to achieve it before nightfall. So, in order to live, make sure you give it your all!" Ellie turned around to face the capital, with its domineering walls. "My soldiers. MAKE SURE TO SURVIVE!" Ellie, with her shout, started the rush towards the capital of the Beastmen.

As one would expect, her army quickly caught the attention of the guards. A bell started to ring, with its special tone; it managed to notify the soldiers of an attack. In the few minutes it took Ellie's army to reach the walls, an equally impressive army stood in their way.

"Everyone, disperse and surround the capital!" Ellie gave her order and her army complied. The 40.000 soldiers split into four equal parts, each choosing one wall to attack. In an instant, the leaders of each small army started engaging the enemy. Ellie knew from the last war that she wasn't good at fighting while mounting a horse. Thus, she chose to wield a spear.

Her way of handling the spear was rather clumsy, as she was only taught the basics by Edmund. Still, she was overwhelming with her martial prowess. Many enemies targeted her horse in order to dismount but failed. She managed to react to everyone within time and stopped the attack in their tracks.

Her target was not to kill the enemies but to reach the wall. They needed to get the gates open from the inside, or they couldn't enter the city. But, scaling the walls was much harder to do. The archers positioned themselves and rained arrows upon them. But, they had to be careful not to injure their own comrades, so their pressure was little.

On the southern wall, Becky was having a hard time. Not against an opponent, but in following the battlefield. She often found herself lost in the midst of the enemies, with none of her allies near her. This caused her to engage, and disengage many times consecutively. But, her learning ability was nothing to scoff at. She was learning as she was fighting. And, from her learning, she managed to get stronger.

Audun and Eric weren't having a hard time. Instead, they were focusing entirely on getting to the walls. Their soldiers were also fully committed to following their orders. The slaves, which everyone was wary of, gave it their all as well. They believed that they would gain their freedom if they were to fight for five years. They also didn't want to lose their lives for no reason.

An hour had passed, with no way for the soldiers to reach the walls. Ellie changed the fighting soldiers with the ones at the back in order to get them to rest. But, she couldn't hide her displeasure. They were losing time, and she didn't like it.

"Enough, I'm taking things into my own hands…" She muttered to herself as she turned around to look at her soldiers. It was extremely dangerous to do such a thing in the middle of the battlefield, yet she did it anyway.

"Men, I'll leave this spot to you. Make sure not to let the soldiers follow after me! And you can ask for help from the other three armies!" after saying so, Ellie flew into the sky. Some Heavenly Establishment cultivators tried to stop her, but they were no match.

As she closed in on the walls, a hail of arrows targeted her. But, they couldn't hurt her even though they managed to make contact with her body. She was coating her entire body with a dense layer of QI, making her immune to such feeble attacks. She descended near the wall and stored her spear. Out of her spatial ring, her personal gauntlets popped out. As she equipped them, she noticed some soldiers coming after her from behind, while archers targeted her from the back.

"Haaaah!" She screamed as she released a massive wave of QI in all directions. The soldiers behind her were blown away, with no way of recovering. Then, her QI started going into one of her fists.

*BOOM*

With only one attack, Ellie opened up a hole in the wall of the capital. She went through it, finally entering the city of her enemy.
