"A snake…?" Emilia wondered as the pyramid started rising up in the sky. Ed and the others continued to move while monitoring the movements of the serpent. The serpent started rising up in the sky until its shadow reached Ed's group and covered them from the sun. Then, it seemed to be staring in their direction. After a couple of seconds, it returned its body to the ground.
The serpent started to slither in their direction. Although it was moving at a fast pace, its movements were calm and serene. The sand particles that flickered around its body reflected the light of the sun, giving it a majestic feeling. Not much time passed before it stood in front of Ed and the others.
Although Emilia was much stronger right now, she still felt nervous. The gigantic body of the serpent was nothing to scoff at, as every time it let out its tongue, it released a massive amount of QI with it. Bella couldn't decide on whether she liked the serpent or not. She was massively impressed with its beautiful scales, even though it seemed to have fought many battles since scars covered its body. But, at the same time, the serpent released an intimidating feeling.
Ed took the initiative as he took four big strides before standing in front of the serpent. Ed looked minuscule and was so far from the eyes of the serpent, yet the two of them seemed like they were seeing eye to eye. Ed revealed a big warm smile, and said, "It's been a long time, Mehen…"
The Great Serpent Mehen. The serpent that fought Ed and lost, leaving a promise unfulfilled between the two of them until this day. He was the friend that Ed was looking to meet.
"Ah, it's you guys. How have you been?" Emilia and Bella could feel the sound waves of the gigantic serpent enter their bodies and shake their hearts. It was the same feeling when listening to loudspeakers in a concert. However, that didn't attract their attention. It wasn't the fact that Ed knew it well enough to call it by name either. It was the fact that the serpent treated Ed and the others like an afterthought.
"…You never change, do you…You've been fighting hard, haven't you?" Ed noticed the cuts and removed scales on the body of Mehen. He knew that Mehen had a molting skill that allowed him to negate all damage, but it was at the cost of his QI. The fact that he had these many injuries meant that he fought, after using that skill and still didn't heal.
Mehen, in order to fulfill the promise between him and Ed, fought for over a year non-stop. He killed cultivators that were as strong as Heavenly Establishment level 10 by sacrificing his body parts many times. Sometimes he needed to hide for weeks from strong opponents. Other times, he didn't eat as he fought wave after wave of enemies. Mehen waited for Ed. He didn't care how long it took. He waited. And now, his savior had arrived. Although his nonchalant attitude was ingrained in his personality, he was actually happy down to the last remaining scale on his body.
Mehen noticed Bella staring at him, so he stared back. Ed noticed this and chuckled. He knew about Bella's love for animals, monsters, and the unknown. She was one of the few people that actually enjoyed hanging around with Sieg. Sometimes, they would call him weird titles together.
Mehen flattened his head on the sand near Bella and said, "Get on and sit tight." Bella did as she was told. She couldn't jump to his head, so she flew there instead.
"You want to go too?" Ed said while looking at the bewildered Emilia. Out of worry about Bella, or out of curiosity, Emilia decided to go as well. Mehen could tell that Emilia was important to Ed, so he didn't object.
Once the two of them were sitting comfortably, Mehen shot his head towards the sky. He went at a speed faster than anything the two of them had ever experienced. Once his whole body was standing like a pole, he brought his head down at an equally impressive speed.
"Again, again!!" Bella seemed really excited at the game they had played. It was like an amusement park, but much scarier and not really safe. Emilia descended and bowed her head politely towards Mehen. She didn't seem to like the trip as much as Bella.
After playing for a couple of times, Bella finally had enough. When she descended, she was so dizzy that she stumbled when trying to walk. Ed and the others then started to talk with Mehen. Merry and Agumon didn't know him, so Ed told them about the story.
"So, are you ready to leave this place?" Ed finally brought it up.
"…" Mehen looked around, at the sandy surroundings, at his own injured body, and finally at Ed and said, "Yes. I wish to see what kind of world you'll show me!" For the first time, Mehen showed his genuine emotions when talking, or rather hissing.
'You heard the ma-serpent!' Ed contacted the system with his mind as he flew towards Mehen's head. As Ed's hand and Mehen's head connected, a bright light surrounded them. In the next instant, Mehen was no longer there. Ed immediately checked his Inventory and crushed Mehen's card. The Great Serpent Mehen's black glistening body appeared in its full glory. There were no injuries on his body, and his scales were shining.
But, that wasn't all. Thanks to the conditions set by the system, his cultivation state increased by many levels. He leveled up to Immortal Establishment level 5, same as Ed's other monsters. A massive amount of QI erupted out of his body, sending the sand around flying away. Ed teleported in front of Bella and Emilia, and released his own KI in a radius around them, protecting them from the sandstorm. Ed's monsters were able to protect themselves.
After a little while, Mehen controlled his new found powers. Due to his QI release, they were now in the middle of a hole, surrounded by sand in every direction. Mehen reduced his size until he was simply an oversized snake. He rolled around the arm of Ed as he rested his head on Ed's shoulder.
As Mehen rubbed Ed's face with his cold scales, Ed told everyone, "Our job is done. We're leaving the tower!"
Mehen is back everyone! I know that he is a very lovable character, even though he didn't appear for a long time. So, I thought about something to do. A popularity contest! Each one of you please let me know your favorite character in the comments! I'll let you know mine after we see the results! (I'll be checking the comments for 3 days, after that I'll announce the results)

Outside the tower, a person, who seemed to be of important status, appeared. Unlike the treatment Ed got, the guard there was extremely careful not to offend the person.
"Miss, you've finally arrived." As the guard was doing his best to stall the lady, an elderly man with a long mustache appeared. His eyes seemed to be closed at all times, which made him seem asleep. If one did not seem him talk, they wouldn't bother to try and converse with him.
"It was an important summon from you, uncle. And please don't call me Miss, just my name is enough." The women spoke politely as she waved both of her hands in front of her.
"Ho ho ho. Still quite the lovable little Jillian. Still, my thanks for coming. The tower has been the greatest attraction of this little continent, without it, our government would lose quite the big part of our budget." The old man was, in fact, a living myth. He was the head of the Central government and had been for over 100 years. He was an Immortal Establishment, but he was no good at fighting.
So, to avoid fights, he created a government centered on himself and got many powerful backers to invest in it. It turned out to be the best choice of his life, as no one dared to cross him now.
"Like I said no need for a 'thanks'. You're an important friend of my father, and he wouldn't allow you to suffer for so long. If not for the current state of the world, he would have sent me months before. I can only offer my apologies on his and my behalf."
Jillian was a young lady no older than 25 years old. She had beautiful red flowy hair that seemed like burning fire each time the sunlight hit it. Her eyes were golden, which complimented her eyes, making her seem like a phoenix. Despite her young age, she had a high cultivation of Immortal Establishment level 5. On top of that, she was the third daughter of the strongest family in the Central Continent. This was the reason why no one dared to provoke her.
"I won't allow you to say such words again! Your father and I go way back. Neither of us could have survived without the help of the other. I know that your oldest brother was sent to the Bloody war. If not for that, he would have helped me much sooner. We all still mourn his loss…" Both the old man and Jillian hung their heads, as a moment of silence passed.
"Still, who could have thought that the monstrous Harald would lose? It seems that the fate of the world now rests in the hands of, not only Blood sect but Glory sect as well." The old man quickly returned to his previous attitude. Surprisingly, Jillian did as well.
"His loss, as well as my brothers, was his own fault. Neither I nor my father is looking for revenge. Instead, I hope that I would be able to meet the person that managed to slay all five great commanders of the blood army." A mischievous smile appeared on Jillian's face as she scratched her chin.
Just as she said that everyone felt the earth and the air shake. On top of the tower, twelve figures appeared. The twelve figures descended to the ground, standing right next to the guard, Jillian, and the old man. The three of them shuddered. The old man had gotten a report about someone entering the tower with no regards for the rules. As well as another report about the problem of the tower being the boss of the ninth floor, a serpent.
Right now, both of those reports collided. Even though they had no way to make sure that the serpent coiling around Ed's neck was the same as the floor boss, they believed it to be true. Another thing the Jillian and the old man noticed was Ed's appearance. As well as the monsters accompanying him. It was exactly the same as the one about the hero of the blood war, the slayer of the five commanders.
"You bastard!" Once Jillian made the connection between them, she withdrew a two-meter-long greatsword from her spatial ring. She prepared her attack while closing in on Ed, and in an instant, she slashed down. Yet, much to the surprise of everyone, Ed didn't even lift a single finger. Emilia had intervened and blocked the great sword. She went a step further, as she froze both the sword and the two arms of Jillian.
"Something like this!" Jillian muttered and she lit up like a candle. Her already fiery hair turned into actual flames. Then, gradually, her whole body burst into flames. The flames melted the ice on her arms and freed her great sword. But, before she could retreat, a black figure shout out of Ed and coiled around Jillian like a black bolt of lightning.
"Eng, Humph!" Jillian found herself being unable to move a single cm of her whole body. Mehen managed to subdue her in less than an instant, binding her arms, legs, and coiling around her whole body. His head was positioned near her throat with his fangs ready to strike at any moment.
"Please wait, sir Avalon!" The old man finally managed to react to the current situation. He wanted to save Jillian, and the best way to do so was to negotiate with Ed.
"Why should we wait? We only descended down from the tower, and yet this barbaric lady decided to attack us."
As Ed muttered 'Barbaric lady', Jillian noticed it and looked towards him. "Mmm! Mhmhm! Hmph!" Since Mehen closed her as well with his body, she couldn't say anything.
"See. Even now, she's trying to get me." Ed pointed at her while looking at the man with a face that said, 'Do you see what I mean?'
"Still, please let her go. This old man will do anything. It is my fault that she was summoned here in the first place. If she is killed, I won't be able to show my face to her father. Plus, you killed her brother, which is why she was so impulsive." The old man's eyes finally appeared. Inside of them was a glint of cunningness.
Ed noticed that glint, but was too stuck in thinking about her brother. 'Which one is it now…' Ed was trying to find a connection between Jillian's face and someone that he killed before.
"It is Letif, one of the five commanders of the Blood sect army." The old man clarified.
