Chapter 123: Triple Evolution

Ed checked his Inventory once more. He pretty much memorized everything inside, but he still chose to look at the items there. Other than the Transformation and Healing card, he had two Upgrade cards. He could evolve one of his three remaining Epic grade monsters. But, he was adamant about leveling them up together. Such was the usual case for them. They were drawn at the same time, and all the previous evolution were done at the time as well.

'System, use four Gacha tickets on Function Gacha." Ed usually used up all ten tickets at once, but now he only needed to get four more Upgrade cards. If he was lucky, he would get all four of them at once. He would end up having the chances to draw other things with his remaining six.

[Drawing Gacha please wait…]

*Ding*

Acquired Upgrade cardx2, Transformation card, Healing card.

As expected, things didn't go as Ed had planned. He had to draw the Function Gacha once more.

He used two cards this time and waited patiently.

*Ding*

Acquired Upgrade card, Equipment set.

'Hmm, what's that?' Ed wondered about the weird thing that appeared. He was about to check its details but decided to wait until he was done.

Once more, he used the Function Gacha with one card.

Acquired Upgrade card.

"Finally!" Ed shouted while laying on a bed, making the others startled.

"Gobuta, Goburou, Garu. Time to evolve!" Ed looked at the three of them impatiently. With this, all of his monsters would have reached Legendary grade. Ed didn't meet any monster tamers like him, but he was almost sure no one was like him. Be it the grade of his monsters or their quality, it was too different.

"Use Upgrade cardx2 on each one of them!" Ed told the system what to do and crushed the six cards. Instantly, different kinds of colored light surrounded the three of them.

"What is this…" Sieg who never witnessed an evolution sequence was bewildered. "Oh, that's right." Ed looked at him and remembered that he never explained such things.

"I told you I have another power. Well, this is one of its uses. I'm able to increase the quality of my companions, of course, that includes you." Ed gave him a brief summary of one of his system's many abilities. Sieg also understood that he would be able to attain Mythical grade as long as he stays with Ed. Not many people ever witnessed a Mythical monster and lived to tell the tale.

Ed turned his attention back to Gobuta and the others. The light that surrounded each one of them looked different by now.

The sphere of light, or rather it should be called the sphere of darkness, that surrounded Gobuta had a murky feeling to it. If one could describe it, it would be closely similar to a mud swamp that was purple-black in color. Ed could feel Gobuta's Qi, and more importantly his aura, getting stronger and stronger. It also had a bit of maliciousness towards it, but Ed didn't matter as it wasn't directed at him or the others. It was simply that way.

Goburou's sphere could be described by one word. Blood. It looked like a round drop of blood that was swirling around. If Gobuta's aura had maliciousness, then Goburou's was filled with bloodlust. 'Is it actual bloodlust or is he simply hungry…' Ed smiled wryly.

Finally, Garu who was far on the right was surrounded by a blue sphere of ice. Unlike the two before him, the aura that was getting stronger was like water in a dam. This, in fact, made it more frightening. Everyone could feel that the dam would break at any moment by the overflowing aura.

Almost the same amount of time that usually passed when evolving ticked away. The three of them emerged. The spheres that surrounded them looked like a boiled egg being peeled as they came out. Gobuta and Garu had a significant size increase while Goburou's was a modest increase. He was taller than Ed this time.

Congratulations Gobuta evolved into Demon Lord (Ogre)

Congratulations Goburou evolved into Vampire

Congratulations Garu evolved into Lycan

Ed checked the notifications and studied the differences in each one of them closely.

Gobuta grew to almost two and a half meters. Horns appeared on top of his ears and extended to above his eyes. His skin was dark green with tattoos extending from his shoulders to his wrists. Unlike before, his eyes now had a golden color and his irises were surrounded by a dark circle. His eyes looked like a hawk's, making him very imposing.

Goburou's changes were also remarkable. He was over 180 cm tall. His hair had a pristine dark color and his eyes, and lips were crimson red. Even redder compared to the scorpion that Ed killed yesterday. He even got his own clothes from the evolution. 'Is it a gift from the system?' Ed wondered. He was wearing a black cape that was red on the inside, while he had a white undershirt. It looked very similar to the clothes vampire wore back in Ed's world. In movies of course.

Garu was over three meters now. If he were to walk in any street in the world, he would probably stand taller than all humans. Even big people like Leonard or Scale kingdom's general would look tiny next to him. His fur and eyes were now silvery blue. His claws looked as sharp as the sword Ed had crafted for his family. Unlike Goburou, and like Gobuta, he didn't get any new clothes.

"Congratulations you guys!" Ed was joyous that all his companions were very strong right now. Even their cultivation was now higher than his at Earth Establishment level 10. Same as Suika, they would probably breakthrough at any moment. Sieg was on the side marveling at the sight before him.

'System, use the remaining four tickets on the Skill Gacha.' Ed didn't forget about the tickets he still had.

*Ding*

Acquired Programming, Fire magic, Water magic, Caligraphy.

Ed's eyes were twitching at the skills in front of him. He had just gotten Water magic on an earlier floor. Calligraphy was useless for battle, but he still crushed it acquiring the skill.

'System, does that Programming skill have anything to do with magic theory or something,' Ed wanted to believe in his system, so he asked.

[No it's computer programming] such was the answer.

'And why the hell would you have that in a cultivation world!!!' Ed retorted in his mind while imagining himself threw something at the ground.

Hello everyone! Hope you enjoy the chapter.

Chapter 124: A Delicacy That Surpasses the Cockatrice?

Before wrapping everything up, Ed asked the system about the Equipment set he got.

[After activating it, you will be able to see an interface where you can make equipment presets. Anyone preset that is saved can be changed into in a fraction of a second. You won't have to change your clothes or anything like that. However, it is limited to five presets only.]

Ed carefully examined the words told by the system and made sure he understood them. 'Basically, this is another one of the Game interface elements that weren't included'. Ed reached such an understanding. This 'Equipment set' was similar to the ones from certain games. Even the explanation was almost the same. Still, Ed was glad that he got such an ability. This way he would save up on time.

Ed looked up at the red sky. The sun was just about to set, so he decided to train rather than simply end the day. He also wanted to see the changes that came with his monsters' evolution.

Ed vs. Raikou. Suika and Garu vs. Sieg. Gobuta vs Goburou. All of them decided on such team composition and started sparring. Ed was finding it difficult to keep up with Raikou without using his skills. A gap was created between them when Raikou leveled up. Ed was now thinking about annihilating the floor to attain Heavenly Establishment. After activating many of his skills, the spar was more or less at a standstill.

Suika and Garu could force a draw with Sieg by now. Although they were incapable of breaking his barrier, keeping him at bay was easy enough. Garu's evolution gave the highest all-rounder abilities out of all of Ed's monsters. His durability, speed, and power were all top notch. Even some of the lower leveled Heavenly Establishment monsters would pale compared to him. Especially if he were to use Nen.

"Woah!" Ed and Raikou who were in the middle of sparring were surprised by a purple flying slash. Ed looked at the source and noticed that Gobuta was looking at the sword in his hand. Apparently, a simple swing of his blade was enough to generate such a force. It seemed like he was unable to gauge his new found strength. Goburou was now fighting with elegance. Every move of his was filled with finesse. His sword slashes had an impressive speed that managed to hit with pinpoint accuracy. Gobuta who was able to react to these slashes deserved some praise as well.

The dark went completely dark a couple of hours ago, but Ed created some fire stands to help light up the area. Usually, he would just cook on a campfire, but it was far more convenient this way. The spar sessions ended and Ed was now cooking dinner. It was the camels that they hunted before. The meat of the camel that he butchered was darker compared to beef, but as soft and lean. Maybe even more than beef. To his surprise, the best part of the meat turned out to be the humps. They were filled with tender and juicy meat. Ed could only suppress his hunger while thinking. 'I'm so hungry I could eat a camel!'. As he was preparing the meat, he noticed that all of his companions were intrigued by the delicacy. Even Sieg, who had gotten used to eating food with Ed and the others, seemed interested.

After eating the first steak, Ed and the others couldn't stop. Every piece tasted completely different than the one before. The humps were indeed the best part. None of the meat tasted dry as the camel was a young one. At least it seemed that way. Ed ended up preparing, and cooking, more than three whole camels before everyone was satisfied. 'This might be better than the cockatrice. Maybe I should save one to treat Emilia and the others.' Ed thought back to the small party they had back in the academy. Thinking back at his time there, it was filled with both loss and gain.

As time passed, Ed and the others gradually fell asleep, with their bellies filled. Only Sieg couldn't share with them the delicacy of sleep. Since Ed spent time sparring in his dimension, not much time was left before it would wear off, so he undid it himself. He got some tents he used and they all slept inside it. Ed almost slept before doing this. It would have been a disaster if the dimension was undone while he was sleeping, and they froze from the coldness.

No monster approached Ed's group. Even if they did, Sieg would take care of it.

After waking up, Ed and the others started searching for monsters again. On the way, Ed was tinkering with the Equipment set he had gotten. The interface had a body in the middle with squares indicating the different pieces of equipment he could set. He did three presets first. All of them had the same thing, an underwear (obviously) and his chainmail armor. The first preset was his usual hunting attire with the leather set. The second one was the black disguise set, while the third one was his white one.

Ed was able to control the switch between them by using his mind only. He didn't need to push any buttons or anything. He played with it a little and noticed that the switch time was almost instantaneous. He kept thinking about what he should use for the last two presets, but he couldn't think of anything.

The group was attacked by a couple of giant worms on the way but was able to dispatch them easily. Upon reaching their destination, Ed noticed that the monsters were a hive of lizard with spikes on their bodies. Sadly, none of them were exceptionally strong. Their most amazing ability was shooting flaming spikes from their body. These spikes would explode upon contact with anything. At first, it didn't seem like a dangerous thing. But as they fought, they noticed that the great number of monsters made it difficult to dodge these spikes from close range. In the end, they simply used long-range attacks to annihilate them.
